Best 4G service provider

I just bought a s3 4g phone off kogan. I'm currently with Virgin, paying $20 a month for about $440 of credit and 2gig of data. Is there a better 4g provider? Do any of the telstra onsellers give you 4g access?

  • Live Connected (Optus reseller) have 4G plans - http://www.liveconnected.com.au/mobile-plans-4g

I don't think there are any 4G telstra resellers yet.

  • It depends on what you put into "best provider" :) For the best quality and speed I think you should go with Telstra (no resellers for 4G yet), but it will be rather expensive. Otherwise, stay with Virgin.

  • i never try 4G, only use 3G.
what are the differences? just speed or more stronger signals?
for example now with 3G sometimes cannot access net on the train when approaching station (not underground)

    is 4G better?

    • Short version: No.

Long version: Currently '4G' in Australia is running at 1800 Mhz which is worse in such conditions than the 850/900 that 3G runs at. It is also not all that much faster, and raw speed usually isn't what limits you on a mobile anyway. The main advantage today is that there are too many poepl using 3G, so the network turns to rubbish and there are less people on 4G right now. This does nothing for you in a train though.

In the future '4G' will be running on LTE-Advanced on 700 Mhz, and that will be a different story.

  • you have until this sunday to stock up on $30 telstra sim for $10 & $40 boost for $20 at auspost :)

  • No Telstra 4G resellers, they hold that closely
