It has color reproduction equivalent to a 1950s B&W tv.

It just means it's no good for video or photo editoring.

        A laptop

It should be noted that the 155u is up to 32% slower than a 155h, and up 36% slower than a Ryzen 8840u, based on the Pass mark score.

    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/5965vs5677vs6003/Intel-…

The GPU is also the previous generation graphics compared to the 155h, so it significantly slower than what is in the Ryzen's 780m graphics.

I managed to buy my Gen 8 brand new for $800 recently; it's a very well built device with excellent battery life, can recommend.

He means to say, probably yes

        -its faster
        -it has more memory
        -the screen is nicer

I have very similar specs to the laptop linked (just no 2in1) and it's great.

To anyone looking for a laptop right now, I recommend you wait a little bit if you can. Tomorrow is the official launch of laptops with the new ARM based CPU from Snapdragon, the Snapdragon X Elite and the slightly less powerful (but still really promising) Snapdragon X Elite plus.
All major manufacturers have said that they'll have laptops with those new chips. Including Microsoft, Lenovo, Dell, Asus and Samsung

FYI it remains to be seen but Qualcomm's claims pair performance to Apple's M chips, we'll see if that's the case or not but definitely worth a look I reckon

It's going to be interesting to see how they hold up, I don't really trust Qualcomm's claims.

The problem is there's basically no software on Windows compiled for ARM, and Microsoft has never been able to provide a decent translation later like Apple did with Rosetta 2.

      • +1

There's quite a bit of software compiled for Windows ARM, and Windows' translation layer is actually pretty good.

        • I don't know if this is a recent development, because I recall reviews for the Surface Pro X being awful, in large part due to the app support (or lack thereof).

The M1 was able to emulate Windows faster than the Pro X could run it natively 😣

Btw I am a PC user primarily, so I desperately want to this to be true, just noting that history has not been favourable for Windows on ARM.

@webkit: The issue with the Surface Pro X is that the hardware sucked, and the software at the time also sucked. I believe back then only 32 bit apps worked, whereas when Windows 11 came out it added 64 bit support. The translation layer has got a lot better since the Pro X came out (based on experience with using Windows ARM through Parallels). I've never personally owned the Surface Pro X so I couldn't say what that's like to use now, but the software is at least there. I'm still skeptical about Snapdragon X Elite however.
