thats a serious amount of processor for the money

  • +4

    Around $250 you can get a 5600 + B550M is decent.

  • +8

I have this cpu paired with an RX 6700 non XT.

absolutely smashes through everything and barely sips 40W in game.

    • +7

I have a Ryzen 5700X paired with a RX 6700XT. It absolutely smashes everything slightly harder than yours does.

      • +1

I have a 5800x3d paired with a RX 6700XT. Just wanted to join the brag train. :P

        • +1

I have the 5800x3d as well. It is the fastest CPU available for gaming for socket AM4. I have the same GPU as well.

  • $100 cheap from last yr…

  • is it worth upgrading from 3600? I am currently with b550m and rtx4070 ti, not sure if the minor cpu upgrade will change anything…

    • +1

same position, but with a 6700xt.
Contemplating whether or not to upgrade or wait for the x3d processors to drop further.

      • +1

Wait until closer to EOFY - there will be another ebay sale in June (happens every year), and there is a good likelyhood that the X3D cpus will be a bit cheaper then - probably just under $300 for the 5700X3D.

Totally a guess. Prices could be jacked during the sale, who knows.

        • The 5800X3Ds seem to be in pretty short supply though, so even if the prices are good, there's not necessarily going to be many going round. At the moment, most of the sellers I looked at were out of stock of most of the higher tier Ryzens. :(

          • @tophorus: Yeah, are they even still making this anymore given that all the newer AM5 chips are out. I got the 5800X3D a little while back as a last hurrah for my current motherboard. I'll then have to do a major upgrade of motherboard, CPU, memory as the next one. Might even switch to Intel.

My current rig can trace itsself back 20 years to an Intel Core2 Duo machine running Windows XP. The last piece of that machine was the power supply. I've lost count how many CPUs and GPUs it has been through.

            • @xylarr: Haha it's like that old joke, "This is my favourite axe! It's had three new heads and two new handles…"

    • +1

up to ~25% faster depending on what game/settings you use

      • I did the same upgrade. It definitely feels snappier for general OS tasks and somewhat better for games, but productivity tasks won't see a huge increase.

    • +2

Here you go buddy :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSxuiWih_Z8

The 5600X is like 1-2% faster then a 5600 so its the same thing pretty much.

to cut it shot.. for gaming the 5600 is around 30% faster vs a 3600.. but a 5700X3D or Zen4 7600 is another 25% faster over the 5600.. with Zen5 Ryzen 9000 coming out in the next few months (being announced on June 4th at computex ) pricing will only keep dropping

      https://www.tweaktown.com/news/96392/amd-ceo-lisa-su-confirm…

    • From 3600?

      Nope.

Only about 20% faster - a lot less in many games:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgQCB2PZV9I

    • +2

Not worth upgrading from 3600. I would wait and save up for an am5 build now. Especially with the 4070ti

    • If I was you I'd be tempted by a 5700x3d - marked as expired but still much the same price. Should be plenty of performance to last with the 4070 ti, no platform upgrade needed

  • +2

worth upgrading from ryzen 3 3300x?

    • -1

Considering straight drop in except maybe bios yeah
More cores, more cache, better IPC

    • -2

      Huge upgrade from a ryzen 3 3300x

    • +1

      Nope.

Only about 20% faster in games (a lot less in some).

In fact 1% lows are better for 3300x sometimes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jj1a8NdWy78

Unless watching the FPS counter is your hobby, not playing games, it's not really worth upgrading unless you get well over 50% improvement, IMO.

3300x still punching way above it's weight in 2024 👑

      • +1

        (a lot less in some).

That's because they tested using a 5600 XT so half the tests didn't have a CPU bottleneck.

        • +3

Yeah there aren't any good games benchmarks for the 3300x vs 5600 (because so few people own a 3300x, it's not as relevant to potential upgraders).

But the above video from a better benchmarker for 3600 vs 5600 only shows about 20% improvement (and a lot less in some).

And we know the 3600 and 3300x have near identical game performance, there are plenty of good benchmarks from around the 3300x release showing it neck-and-neck (3300x sometimes even ahead a bit).

So yeah, there's no big controversy here. 5600 is about 20% better than 3300x in games (a lot less in some).

  • worth upgrading from an i5 6700?

    • +4

probably. it depends on the games you play/your usecase but yeah, probably.

    • +1

Its a massive upgrade from a 4core 6700.. that is a VERY old CPU in today's standard

  • +1

I ordered an 5500 for $138 (+$12 delivery) from Scorptec just a few days ago, $124.02 with free delivery is a great deal.

  • +1

This CPU arrived for me today (along with an RTX 3060) - good deal/price and perfect for what I was after. I didn't realise the seller is Shopping express - (both items were shipped in a SE box)

  • worth ugprading from intel 4004?

    • It's better by 1596 which represents a 39% uplift, not bad but depending on your situation it might not be worth it

    • Worth upgrading from pentium 386?

  • +2

    Still waiting for 5800x3d, currently on 2700, rtx2080, 1440p

    • Yeah im on a similar boat. 3600 with a 3070 on 1440p. The recent 5700x3d deals have been tempting. Im not convinced a 5600 will do much for me with what I play: COTW TheHunter and Fortnite.

    • Good news is we can wait a few years, drop in a 5800x3D, and our ancient AM4 will still be smashing the latest games.

Bad news is a thousand of other cheapskates can do the same. So like seven-year-old i9s, the 5800x3D probably still won't be some mega cheap $20 chip yet 😂

  • Does anyone know if Gigabyte B550M K supports R5 5600 out of the box?
Doesnt look like there is a way to update the bios if the CPU is not yet supported by outdated bios version
UPD. Found some reviews which mentions it does support 5600 out of the box. Bios version seems to be the very first one that supports it as well.

    Thanks OP, pulled the trigger.

    • +1

didn't even consider this and already bought both lol. thanks for the info though

  • Is this a trusted seller or better to spend extra $20 on a different website?

    • +2

I ordered a few days ago and got it today, installed and works fine

      • Wow, that was quick

  • +6

    Worth upgrading from a 486 DX100?

    • +7

no, you have the maths co-processor don't forget

    • +2

      You mean a 486 DX4 100?

      Just hit the turbo button.

      Username checks out old timer.

      • +2

Ah yes, divide by 4 and bus speed is 25Mhz.

So, I tied an onion to my belt which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel. And in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. ‘Give me five bees for a quarter,’ you’d say.

  • Anyone use this processor in Helldivers 2 with an RTX 3080 (or similar card)? All the benchmarks on youtube show solo gameplay - I'd like to know what the framerate is like when there is a lot going on on high difficulties and a full squad.

    • I've got a 3070 with a 12600k on 1440p with rtx on it does fine in squad. No lag.

      • That isn't helpful and doesn't answer their question though? Different CPUs

  • A really good "budget priced" CPU. Fast cores and a reasonable number of cores. I'm still using one and don't think it is worthwhile yet for me to upgrade to a $320+ CPU & new Motherboard & new Ram (eg Intel i5-12600K which is about 20% faster per Core and on a full multi-core application workload). The only downer with the Intel chip is more power consumption and more heat generation compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600.

  • +1

    worth upgrading from a 4770k?

I kid, I just bought it cause it's finally time

    • +2

haha G :P I'm in the exact same situation but since I'm a very casually gamer these days i've decided to keep it limping on bottlenecking my 3080 cuz I cbf pulling out the mobo and swapping shit over.

      • +2

well i'm using a 980ti still with that 4770k but starting to get a fair few BSODs and then windows hangs trying to recover. Couldn't pass up spending less than a grand for a pretty huge upgrade, getting a 4060 also. Don't even know if my case supports mATX but YOLO.

Edit, found the specs. Thermaltake A31. and it does say microATX fits. sweet.
