For those like me who didn't know, there is a 90 day free trial for Apple's Final Cut Pro ($499.99 to buy) and Logic Pro ($299.99 to buy) Mac apps.
Both had major updates announced today at the Apple event and will be available May 13.

…and the Pro Apps Bundle for Education is $300. I bought it seven years ago and it’s still getting updates. That would be like a $3.50/month subscription.
Would you recommend these apps over the alternatives?
Or is it better to get individual one like davinci resolve or adobe for the price?
the Education bundle is the way. Final Cut Pro X is powerful native software and the updates continue to fortify the software for efficiency on silicon chip. Compressor is another good one in the bundle. Logic is not the most user-friendly DAW, but it does come pre-loaded with some hq presets & banks.
Interesting…is the educational bundle full versions or is their a catch, i.e, you have to be a Uni student to purchase? I already have Logic and looking at picking up FCP for my music videos and content.
@Alias2000: It is the full version software with a discount, Apple education store might need a verified student email from a recognised provider. Try your luck.
Depends what you use it for. FCP is good and probably the easiest to learn if you're starting from scratch. Though I'd say it's the least industry friendly. But learning other editing suites after FCP isn't that hard either.
Premiere/adobe is good if you're planning on also working with Photoshop/After Effects. Just for the two mentioned might be worth the entry alone. Good if you're working with other professionals as it's the most industry friendly (non cinema work). It's also the most resource intensive out of the three cos Adobe sucks. But we all learn to live with it.
Davinci is my personal favourite. Has the best features with colour grading, overall just rock solid. It's free for non-studio version so worth a try anyway.
Definitely DaVinci Resolve instead of Final Cut Pro. I'd also recommend Cubase, Ableton Live, etc over Logic. It's not that the Apple ones are bad, it's just the others are just as good and you're not restricted to only being able to work with, or share/open projects from other Apple users.
Any bargains on DaVinci Resolve? I heard sometimes there are keys available on eBay because a license comes with the purchase of any DaVinci branded mixing software.
@nea ozb: I'd definitely recommend checking the features to see if you actually need the paid one and you might be surprised and save some money. A lot of people are completely fine with the free version. It's very generous now. Previously they limited the export quality a bit more than I'd prefer, but these days it's plenty.
If you're just editing for personal use I would highly recommend getting into Davinci Resolve and then if you need the extra features get the Studio version which is a one off purchase. For music production try Reaper which you can 'trial' indefinitely or pay the very reasonable $60 US for a full licence. Both available on Mac, Windows and Linux.
Does anyone know if you can use the same library between iPad and mac yet?
I saw some people saying you can AirDrop Final Cut Pro from one of the demo Macs in Apple Store.
Just saying. I've never tried it myself, and I don't have any Apple products.
This would be a GENIUS move
They need to come out with an AI that edits videos for you. In theory, you'd prompt it with footage and audio to have it produce a video. I feel that most of the editing tools used for video and photo editing will be unused in 5 years.

If you can't decide if you like FCP or not after 90 days, you can extend it by installing a new version if it is out, as well as deleting a certain file. Only if you need more time to do your evaluation of course.
wow FCPX has gone up in price when I first got in on my mac when it was first released it only cost 300 AUD. When did to go up to 500 bucks!!
I've been using the Final Cut Pro trial for about 2 years now. I keep changing the code to extend the trial period… i just can't decide if it's gonna work for me or not.
