Somewhat related Furukawa just posted about the successor of the switch on twitter

    • +2

It's been 9 years since Switch announcment!

    • -3

tldr they aren't saying shit about it but they may mention something between now and the end of the year and definitely not talking about it at the next nintendo direct

      • They're probably saying it like that so that sales don't drop

      • They're definitely saying something, but by the end of the financial year, not calendar year, which is April 2025.

  • Good price but no Nintendo Australia warranty. You'll have to deal with Amazon or the JP seller failing that

I think this is the console which holds the value historically the best….can’t believe it stills costs $400 bucks after all these years…

    • Nintendo Switch is awesome, even today. There's so much value if you spend the time playing the deep catalogue of games available. That said i would buy locally rather than from JP.

      • +7

Is it really that good of a value? I mean there's the steam deck which can play pc games/emulators and switch games.

I would hold out for an EOFY AU deal, if youre prepared to wait a little longer.

  • +2

Didn’t you read the post on the forum, any year now they are about to announce the switch successor. Possibly wait until 2026 before committing to buying this gen console.

Time to HODL if you are simply upgrading from non-OLED.

Totally, but for people looking for a new toy, it's an amazing price. And the back catalogue at this point is just phenomenal.

  • There's at least one super reputable dude on Facebook marketplace who can "help you get the most out of your new switch". I bought a second hand "souped up" one from him and I've been loving it. I believe he does mail in, mail back services.

I wouldn't normally be comfortable with that idea, but his reviews go back years.

    • … wat

username checks out…? How do you soup up a Switch?

      • There is literally only one way…….

        • Would you mind sending me a link please?

      • +5

He is talking about a modchip being installed.

    • you can buy pre "souped up" (chipped) switches on ali for under $500. not hard to find :)

      • I was just being slightly cryptic about it because Nintendo has been on the war path lately, and as much as it's not illegal to do in Australia, who knows what they'd do to try to bully people if they decided they wanted to.

For some reason, I felt better about getting it from a dude on Facebook marketplace (probably because I trust the reviews there more?).

        • Wasn't there an issue where the mod companies started asking for money to play warez?

        • +1

marketplace sellers are overcharging insanely for chips, i asked one of the sellers that had a listing up and they wanted $350 for the chip, NOT THE WHOLE SWITCH 🤣🤣

you can literally buy the chip and switch for like $470

        • Care to share the details of this dude from FB market place, looking to buy one!

On one hand, they just sort-of announced the switch 2. On the other hand, this is your last chance to buy one and keep sealed for 20 years and sell it for $40000, which, accounting for inflation will be like a 10% profit

    • Will these really appreciate in value? Nearly all handheld will have oled in the future. I guess sure if these early models under a certain serial number were moddable just like the OG switches.

      • Just look up the value of a brand new, sealed game boy.

Collectors will pay for pretty much anything.

        • Your not just competing with the person who forgot about it anymore, Now every single person is a collector and every single dealer of an item is a collector.

You can buy iPhone 1st Generations that are nearly 20years old for like $200.

    • Buy two. One for now, one to keep sealed for decades.

      • Switch packaging will not be seal, even if you bought it brand new. They don't come with stickers unlike in asian region where they actually had a factory sticker/ seal.

  • Bought one of these a few weeks ago for friends of mine … just be aware it comes with a JP/US power adapter so you'll need a converter plug or you'll have to buy an AU adapter which will set you back $32-$40 depending on where you source it.

    • How was the condition during unpacking?

      • +1

Perfect … there was an external Amazon JP box and inside was the Nintendo JP box with some additional paper packaging to stop the Nintendo box from moving around too much. The Nintendo JP box was perfect without dings/dents, and everything inside the box was packaged as expected. No complaints at all.
