  • One of my favourite card. Closed them this March

  • +2

Signed up for this; good way to churn but Virgin Money user experience is rubbish in terms of the App, how slow repayment and transaction show up.

    • Is it just a clone of the citibank app like their online banking is?

      • It probably is, I can only imagine how bad that might be

  • -1

How much is the bonus points worth to convert to gc ?

  • +1

I read in the previous listing that there are no set criteria for a 'new' member. I had this card a few months ago just to churn. Reckon I am eligible for it again?

    • I recall someone got it again within a couple of months without issue but others have also said you should wait three months bewteen NAB backed cards so who knows for sure. Have a go and let us know because I am interested in getting this card again (cancelled in March) once I cancel my Westpac card later this month. I still have a NAB card open as well and doubt I'd get three concurrent cards at my income level. Not much left to churn Velocity points wise for me at the moment.

    • I'd go for it if I was you… as long as your credit rating isn't affected.

      • There will definitely be a credit check, if I am not getting a bonus, I would go for the Citi card instead.

        • Yeh I have the citi card now…. once I have all my points will look for this deal again and go back to this card I think.

    • "New cards customers only and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers."

i wonder what new cards customers mean.

  • Just in time for council rates! (won't count for velocity earn but might count for hitting the spending limit)

    • It doesnt count.

      • It's definitely a maybe. As per https://virginmoney.com.au/credit-card/compare-our-credit-ca…

Council rates won't earn Velocity points

Velocity Points are earned on Eligible Transactions only. Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs).

However it looks to count for eligible spend to hit the $1500 per month limit, thereby triggering 30,000 points

Up to 60,000 bonus Velocity Points offer is available to new and approved Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card account holders who apply by 14 May 2024. 30,000 bonus Velocity Points will be awarded for every month $1,500 or more is spent on eligible purchases for the first 2 months from card approval (spend period). Purchases must be processed and charged to your account in the relevant month to count toward your monthly spend. An eligible purchase means any purchase excluding Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, refunds and chargebacks, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, and fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges.

          • @Ehty: Fair comment, if it's from experience. Did you try calling them?

            • @soan papdi: yup , they gave me 5000 Virgin points instead of Velocity.

              • @Ehty: That's too bad. I'm literally waiting on my $129 voucher right now. Might cancel the card and apply again next week. Will update the thread.

                • @soan papdi: Have you confirmed with them if government spend counts as eligible spend to get the bonus velocity points?

                  • @Ernestpogi: Still waiting for my card, I'll confirm before paying my rates this month.

                  • @Ernestpogi: @ehty and @Ernestpogi, I have it in writing (from their secure message system) that govt transactions count toward bonus points but not for directly earning velocity points. Very happy!

                    • @soan papdi: Sweet! Do you mind posting a screenshot of it somewhere so we could grab a copy? Thank you..

    • Just buy MasterCard/visa prepaid card and pay rates using it. It will meet the spend and doesn't count as government

      • Fee free sales for those cards aren't on all the time though and the denominations are a bit low.

        • Most councils let you pay in parts via Auspost App, it's easy to get fee-free or even 10% off every couple of months.

hm, just closed mine last week from the previous round.

This is where you apply for the $129 travel credit once you have your card - https://virginmoney.com.au/products/credit-card/gift-voucher

    • Also seem to remember the t&c saying you can't use the credit to pay the cash portion of reward seat point bookings?

  • Small FYI on this one - After the initial bonus points, the maximum monthly velocity points is capped at 1,000. Card is much better for churning than for long-term use, which is fine, just don't expect to use it forever.

    • +2

After the initial bonus points, the maximum monthly velocity points is capped at 1,000.

Not true. The card earns 0.66 VFF per $ up to $1500 spend, i.e. 1000 VFF earned. From there on, it earns at a reduced rate of 0.5 VFF per $.

      • True. Turns out I can't read

  • Update title to 60,000 Bonus Velocity Points?

  • Signed up for this in March, also got the added bonus of 200 Status Credits due to a Velocity offer (could have chosen between that and 30,000 extra points).

  • I signed up for this card in the previous deal and couldnt activate my card for various reasons. Today is the last day of my current statement month - if i was willing to buy gift cards from supermarkets, is it possible to meet the spend criteria by 11:59pm?

    • I imagine as long as the transaction isn’t pending

  • Does $35000 enough for $6000 credit ?

    • If this will be your only card probably.

  • Might help some to know that conversion rate between Velocity points and Kris Flyer miles is very good. I was able to get from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur return using about half my points earned from the last deal ($180 taxes).

    • 1.55? It's a pity that some saver flights on Krisflyer aren't available for their alliance partners.

    • Wow, just had a look for random dates in February and Virgin is 58,000 velocity points plus ~$380 in taxes whereas directly through SIA it is 61,000 Krisflyer points plus $200 in taxes. 61K Krisflyer points is equal to 94,550 Velocity points so there's quite a big difference depending on which points you want to use.

  • Are they still offering the 5,000 extra points when you withold uploading your income documents?

    • I tried and they just rejected me next day instead of asking for documents :D

  • So same as last deal but $10 more on first year annual fee, increased from $64 to $74.

  • I tried applying and got denied instantly. Found out applications are broken and no eta when resolved

    • I got denied instantly as well :(

  • I have this card and have claimed the flight credit (sitting in a travel bank currently). Can someone tell me if I can safely close the card and not lose the travel credit?

    • +1

Mine is in travel bank 4 months after closing card.
