Not much of a deal considered a 990 pro is only $30 more

    • yeah, you are right.

    • wouldn't this be more reliable than a 990 pro?

      • +5

Why would you think that? I highly doubt it

How does this ssd compare to another high end brand like fattydove racing?

This SSD is almost definitely just another one of those MAP1602+YMTC232L so in terms of performance will be similar to the Verbatim Vi7000g or Lexar NM790. The only likely significant difference in terms of performance is I think some might use 512 NAND and some 1024 but not sure if that's a thing at 4TB. And well thermal throttling depending on the heatsink or lack of and how you cool it

In terms of lifespan, warranty, QC, especially the NAND quality that might vary quite a bit so I'm not suggesting this is equivalent just performance should be. Frankly given the price of this it's not worth especially with the 990 Pro so close. The Verbatim 4TB might be if it comes back into stock, and likewise the earlier deal for the 2TB with coupon, but not this.

      • This SSD is almost definitely just another one of those MAP1602+YMTC232L…

No - the Maxio MAP1602 doesn't support DRAM which this drive says it has

Based on the DRAM + read speeds, it is more likely to use the InnoGrit IG5236 controller like the Acer Predator GM7000

NAND will be some type of YMTC at a quality level that is more FanXiang than Lexar

        • Oh sorry you're right. I was thinking of the FN955. Didn't realise they were different, though the FN970 was just the heatsink version of the FN955. Frankly, if this Fanxiang level, you're probably fine. Fanxiang seems to have a decent reputation within China. Not quite on par with YMTC's own brand Zhitai but definitely up there. Aigo is another one although their SSDs seem to have disappeared even from AliExpress. (Zhitai also seem unavailable.) I'd be more worried that this is more akin to Xraydisk etc.
