Only $150 for my Pixel 6a

    • -3

Trade in another phone, also I am not sure what the fee is if you don't return the phone so you can get the Extra $400 off.

    • +2

You get more from eBay don't bother

      ~ $450-500 on eBay

      Final Valuation Fee - 30c
Half price shipping label - $5.80
Being scammed and eBay siding with buyer - priceless

      • FVF: $4.50+ 11.8% of FV I believe.
Post: $7.50 if you snag a half off, but will be up to $15 depending on destination.

So many ebay sales lately I've convinced the buyer to buy off market, for an increased discount on their part, because in many cases I lost 12% to FVF, 10-15% on advertising (only ever for items that hang around), and often I bundle free shipping so that cost is mine…
My eBike, ebay wanted to take $125 from a 600 sale just for the privelige. I sold it for 550 off market and the buyer was ecstatic with his outcome as was I!

    • +1

      $320 is absurd

      • Yeah, absolutely preposterous !

      • +1

        Is it really though?

    • +12

The real deal here it's the Extra $400 off on top of trade in credit that you get for the phone. For example you can trade in any phone (atleast $1 value) to get the Extra $400 off. Ofcourse don't trade in a phone if you can privately sell it for more.

      • Thing is that they give you a lowball price like gumtree worth Jack all before slapping $400 on your face

Worth it or not your choice.

If you find a phone worth $1 then maybe it's great

Does the cancelling thing still work after trading in get the voucher then decide not to trade in or hand in the phone? Lol

        • The Extra $400 off Credit works only when you purchase a Google Pixel 8 Pro.

    • I paid $749 about a year ago. They've got to be taking the piss.

  • +28

$240 for my pristine 6 Pro (protector and otterbox)

    Still $1,000

If Apple hadnt set a premium we'd all be paying half that for a device, blame Apple for normalising gouging pure profit phones, no ones game to sell a phone for what it actually costs + a decent profit, for fear of being seen as less than Apple

    • +10

apple tried doing same with headphones with AirPods max but failed, although they succeeded with earpods.

    • +1

should point out my P6 Pro is 256Gb model too

    • -3

no ones game to sell a phone for what it actually costs + a decent profit

If it's so easy, why don't you start a phone company and sell competitive devices for 'costs + a decent profit'? If it's so easy you'll be rich. Don't you want to be rich?

for fear of being seen as less than Apple

It's either that, or they know more about the subject than you. Hmmm, I wonder which one it is…

  • +5

$380 for Pixel 7 Pro. So I could get the 8 Pro for $520.

    • $780 off for the P7P which is basically what I paid for it new last year. Not a bad deal tbf.

  • +3

$270 for Pixel 7a. Yeah right.

    • +3

I'll give you $271 for it

    • +2

but you really get 670. Or you trade in some old junk for $1, get the 401 off the 8 pro, then private sell the 7a for whatever they go for now.

    • $270 for Pixel 7a. Yeah right.

+$400 makes $670 for a phone you can buy new for $549

  • Am I understanding this right? The 8 pro is already $400 off, down to $1299. Are you saying I can trade in any phone and get another $400 off? So only $899? Has anyone actually tried this and can confirm?

    • +1

Right, however not ANY phone, at least $1 trade in value.

    • +1

My thoughts exactly. I have a Pixel 7 Pro, can trade it in for $380. Does that mean I only pay $519?

      So $1299 - $400 (JB coupon) -$380 (phone trade in) = $519

      • +3

        $380+ $400= 780
        $1299 - $780= $519

        Correct!!

        • Under $500 using discounted gift vouchers.

      • +29

Does that mean I only pay $519?

That's the psychology isn't it? But in reality you're paying $519 in cash and a perfectly good phone.

        • +1

          this is correct.

        • +2

And your time and energy expended in jumping through the hoops.

@sator: Could be married with kid where the wife and kid in bed already and the husband up late night browsing on Ozbargain.

        • Would you consider a Pixel 8 Pro for $899 to be a bargain?

        • Or keep your existing last gen phone (p7/p7pro) and save $519.

        • and a perfectly good phone.

Yeah but for most people these end up in a drawer somewhere then in the recycle bin, so it's still a win for most.

          • @1st-Amendment: If my understanding is correct, that handing over my P7P for $400 trade-in, plus additional $400 discount from $1299, then yes, is completely worthwhile….

My 2yr old phone that's nearing need to be replaced, upgraded to the newest and best, ready for the Pixel 9 Pro release, when resale on my P8P will still be high (but I doubt trade-in will be competing).

Ultimately, I see that as the least financial cost path to my desire of whatever becomes the Pixel 9 Pro.

In other news Amazon.com currently selling Pixel 8's @ $499 + freight. If Amazon took afterpay, I probably would have bought one when I crossed it last night. Damn good value if you ask me…

  • my pixel is only worth for 320$

    • 😂

    • 320$

Some people value a basic education, some don't. You choose which camp you want to be in…

  • Crazy good deal just jumped on it. Trading in a Pixel 7 and the 8 Pro is costing only $579.

    • How much did you pay for your pixel 7?

So all up, cost of Pixel 7 + $579 = cost of Pixel 8.

You tell us, is it really worth it?

      • Bought the Pixel 7 for about $675 last year. I bought it as my phone died and desperately needed one. For me it's great value as I appreciate a larger screen, optical zoom on phones.

        • +1

good for you. but don't forget you are paying $579 + Pixel 7 for the Pixel 8. Not just $579.

          • +1

@ltwo: Getting $720 off the P8P for a phone that cost $675 and has been used for a year.

  • Can someone clear a bit of dilemma for me?
I have a Samsung s22 Ultra 256 gb in absolute pristine condition which has sat in the drawer since iPhone 15 pro released.
Am I better off selling it on marketplace or am I better of trading it in.
The value I am getting is $500 for trade in. Combine it with bonus $400 credit makes is $900 trade in value.
    1299-900=$399 for Pixel 8 pro
I have no interest in keeping the phone.
I was thinking of selling it for say $1000 with invoice
Net sale value $600 or can I do better?

    • It really depends how much you going to get for the phone on the market. Alternatively you sell the phone on marketplace. You just trade in a phone that will be $1 value so you can get the $400 off. I can't remember what's the fee for not returning the phone.

      • isnt the fee for not returning the phone the trade in value?

    • +1

Select the cheapest Galaxy watch for $1. Sell your S22U for whatever you can get for it on marketplace. You should be net even at least.

  • +4

always better to just sell the phone separately for cash elsewhere
    youll make more
and then you can still buy this new phone

    • +3

To be fair though, you won't get the bonus $400 off, so likely if you wanted to get the phone in this exact deal, you'd be worse off selling it seperately.

    • To achieve this I'd need to get about $800 or more for my P7P. Unlikely.

Also not having to deal with marketplace and gumtree "last price" idiots/scammers, priceless.

    • always better to just sell the phone separately for cash elsewhere

      Please show me where I can sell a second-hand P6a for $550 or a P7a for $670?

  • You can just take the $1 hit still I assume and not trade in the phone? $900 seems like a great price for the pro. Shame all phones are so big these days though, I would have bought it if the physical size was the same as the non-pro.

    • It should also be a fee attached if you don't send your phone. I can't remember how much it is.

  • What if my screens got bad burn-in?

    • What have you done to your cone Phone?

  • Can this be done in store?
Or trade in online pickup in store?

What does it say on the invoice?
Ie what amount shows in the invoice?

  • 4a even an option for a trade in?

    • +2

      4a 5g $50 last I checked

  • +1

I have a Pixel 7. Out of interest, what does a Pixel 8 Pro do in addition to what I have?

        • you may want to read my comment to sekhon147 further below

    • I believe the main thing is Gemini, Google’s AI ‘thing’, that does AI things, but conveniently only works on Pixel 8 Pro and I assume that’s largely why this deal exists in the first place.

      • Gemini is installed and functioning on my pixel 7 pro.

        • I stand corrected, and it's good to know the Pixel 7 Pro isn't obsolete yet, I kinda feel bad for the Pixel 8 owners though.

      • -2

I believe the main thing is Gemini

        He said addition not subtraction.

Unless you consider an AI that secretly alters your requests to add in some wokeness to be 'intelligence'
        https://www.wired.com/story/google-gemini-woke-ai-image-gene…

        • Ok, this is kinda funny, not that I care at all for the right-wing political BS of the last few years, especially in the US, I have no idea how something so broken makes it to market.

"When prompted to create an image of Vikings, Gemini showed exclusively Black people in traditional Viking garb. A “founding fathers” request returned Indigenous people in colonial outfits; another result depicted George Washington as Black. When asked to produce an image of a pope, the system showed only people of ethnicities other than white. In some cases, Gemini said it could not produce any image at all of historical figures like Abraham Lincoln, Julius Caesar, and Galileo."

          • -2

            @TekniqAU:

not that I care at all for the right-wing political BS of the last few years, especially in the US, I have no idea how something so broken makes it to market.

The first part of your sentence answers the last part.

You have no idea because you have been conditioned to believe 'right-wing' is bad and 'left-wing' is good even though it's the left that have reintroduced segregation back into society again. https://www.nas.org/blogs/article/harvard_prepares_to_host_a…

This is how Gemini became so broken, the woke mind-virus has taught young people that racism is now ok. People can now be judged on the colour of their skin. And it is so widespread it has infiltrated universities, big tech, Hollywood, MSM etc Just look at every Hollywood remake over the last 10 years for the same mind-virus in action. Or this racist piece of garbage: https://youtu.be/aLcOxV0ykjA?t=185

            • +1

@1st-Amendment: I'd rather not take the conversation down this path, but honestly I don't believe 'right-wing' is inherently bad, or that 'left-wing' the opposite.. American conservative politics seems to be obsessed with 'woke', the removing of women's rights, transgender people, and various other things at the expense genuine policy, and that was what I was largely referring to in my previous post. They've also politicized all the 'cookers' and conspiracy nuts at the expense of legitimacy just to get votes, and I'd honestly like to see a return to integrity, and representing a proper conservative political position and not a gradual decline into fascism, where it all seems to be headed.

Even if the tech companies have been infiltrated by a 'woke mind-virus' as you say, that's no excuse as to why they didn't check if their AI could do something as simple as produce images of historical figures properly.

My understanding of politics might not be the best, I understand that, so I'm going to leave this here.. but if you want to share any further articles I'd be happy to take a look, but I'm also not sure if this is the appropriate place for this discussion.

              • -2

                @TekniqAU:

American conservative politics seems to be obsessed with…

You seem to showing some bias here. Your first post talked of 'right-wing BS', now it's conservative 'obsession'? Do you recognise that it is the Left that created the 'woke' ideology and are ramming it down everyone's throats? And since 'woke' involves introducing actual racial and sexual discrimination where it didn't previously exist, Conservatives are merely pushing back on that poisonous idea?
And if you accept that racial and sexual discrimination are terrible ideas, then you too should be pushing back on the woke ideology because that is exactly what it is. Who is the bad guy here? Those pushing for more discrimination or those pushing against it?

                the removing of…

Only if your version of events comes from biased left-wing sources. Give an example and I will happily shine some light on how you've been lied to by them.

                at the expense genuine policy

Conservative policy made the US objectively wealthier and safer. Liberal policy has it poorer, more divided, less secure and once again bogged down in multiple wars. How is that not genuine?

and not a gradual decline into fascism,

This is more left-wing media talking points.
Define fascism. Because the definition I have is a one-party authoritarian state that silences opposition. This best describes the left and their cancel culture ie shutdown or ban anyone who disagrees with us etc. How does promoting free speech, greater individual liberty, and less government power result in fascism? I'm genuinely curious at how you landed on this? Since these are the very things that prevents fascism and are the foundation of conservatism.

that's no excuse as to why they didn't check if their AI

It absolutely describes it perfectly. They are so indoctrinated into the woke idea that white men are evil and need to be taught a lesson that they believe that blackwashing history/movies/art etc is justified. It's real 1984 Ministry of Truth stuff, ie fascism. Yet you have been tricked into believing that conservatives are the bad guy here even when the evidence it right in front of your own eyes.

My understanding of politics might not be the best, I understand that

At least you admit that, which is the first step to progress.

but if you want to share any further articles I'd be happy to take a look

How deep do you want to go down the rabbit hole?

  • +1

Can you still do the old trade in a $1 phone that you dont actually have and they just charge you the $1 for not sending it in?

    • Yes. You can. Thats what I did last time when they had a similar deal.

  • +9

My Pixel 7 Pro 512GB in perfect condition gets $420 for a device that was $1599 only 18 months ago 😔 The 8 Pro 512GB is $1599 right now, meaning I'll be $779 out of pocket if I buy it with this deal. Looks like I'm better off keeping my phone until I need a new one, both for the sake of the environment and my wallet.

    • I think that is always going to be the case. These businesses are going to make a profit from this otherwise they wouldn't do it.

My Pixel 5 is is great condition and values it at $1.

      • +1

Don't sell your Pixel 5, it has high quality upload to Google FREE of charge. Copy your photos to DCIM and sync from there.

    • +5

The sad part of this deal is that I don't see the reason for upgrading it.

My P7 constantly overheated so I already lost my faith with Pixel.

Btw, I was an owner of Pixel 2, 3a, 5 and now using 7.
I missed the days of good old Pixel 2 and 3a.

Things went wrong since they started using the Tensor chip.

      • Mine too. It also loses network connection (with Telstra in metro sydney) quite often.
I haven't used Samsung for a while but am turned off by the disgusting pricing. If and only they brought Huawei phones back. My Mate 20 Pro was solid as.

        • My P30 Pro was really good. Battery life was beastly unlike the 7a.

Would have kept using it if it wasn't for the Bluetooth dying on it.

        • I thought the Telstra thing only happened to me (in Perth metro)

It happened all the time in these two months.
I have to boot the phone to get online again, Freaking annoying.

          • +1

            @chrisishere: Just toggle airplane mode.

Someone recently advised me to reset all network settings and it seemed to have improved things quite a bit. Give it a try and see how you go.

      • +1

I know you lost Faith, and I knew all these problems, hence I skipped all Pixels since 5.

Pixel 5 and upgrade to 8 Pro. Happy here and no issues of above

However I admit performance wise is not as good as Snapdragon but there's 7 years updates, and who knows how Google will give us Battery replacement/parts surely after 2 years of us battery no good anymore

    • Mate they are giving you $400 bonus credit as well, so effectively you are getting $820. And if you make it even better, then don’t send your phone to them, they will charge you $420 (you keep the bonus $400) and then sell your phone off marketplace or ebay, and any amount you get on top of $420 will be additional for you.

    • Only $40 more than the 128GB version, showing the true worth of the extra memory vs what these companies charge for it on new devices.

  • My Pixel 8 5G 128GB with broken front glass gets me a $90 trade in. Would have been $450 in perfect condition

  • $200 (128GB) or $220 (256GB) for the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G. That'd make the Pixel 8 $1,299 - $200 - $400 = $699.

  • Has someone jumped from S23U to P8P? What was the experience like? Would really love an input as I am wondering about taking the plunge.

    • +8

it would actually be a plunge rather than an upgrade

    • +1

I prefer the P8P to my old S24U and current S24U. Google's stock android is much more slick than Samsung

      • I had a Pixel 6 Pro, bought the S24U and after using it for a month or so, I now bought the P8P and I'm going to try and sell the S24U.

  • Can I just walk into a store and do this? or do I need to stuff around sending the phone in ahead of time (thus being without a phone for a week or so)?

    • +1

You do the valuation/trade in, then you have to post it within 7 days. So you can have the new phone, transfer data over, wipe the old phone and then send it off.

  • +1

Pixel 7 256GB trade in for 350, plus 400 bonus credit, offset against Pixel 8 Pro 128GB 1299 = 549 for this phone

Paid 565 for the Pixel 7.

So really, I would end up paying 549 + 565 = 1114 for the Pixel 8 Pro. Pretty good. But do I really need a new phone…. I could save the 549 upgrade fee….

    • Same here,

Upgraded to P7 from P5 15 months ago.
I was expecting P7 battery to be better than P5, but I was wrong.

This time I'm not falling into this trap again.
I'm going to use it until it die.

  • Is this worth an upgrade from a Pixel 7? What are the main advantages?
