I think the RRP in Australia is so inflated for most gadgets. The launch price of this fairly new Chromebook was USD 499. So at this price it's a good deal. It does the essentials right. Above average display, 1080p webcam, Intel i5 for performance, don't know the battery capacity but watched a review on Engadget which said 6-7hrs which is just at par, good keyboard with backlit keys and good track pad. At this price manufacturers skimp on a few things but this one has got the essentials right. It's probably not very light.
This is actually a Chromebook plus, if you look at the last few pictures you will find it. It's Google's new standards certification for Chromebooks

8gb is bare minimum. It depends on how you use it. Heavy users would say 16gb is a sweet spot. For "average everyday " users this should do the job

How do you like it? Share your thoughts please. My two main factors I look at are battery life and display.
I've been running one of these for a few years when I picked it up as a bit of a low cost dabble in the Linux/web development space - IIRC we picked up for under $1k at OW mid to late 2020. I've since gone in a different direction but the Chromebook's settled into a neat little 'companion' role as browser, diary, web-based MS Office stuff, Chromecasting, reading, study, that sort of thing - literally typing this on it right now. Being able to fold it into a tablet and use a style is a nice feature. It's done a fair bit of interstate and international travel, and I don't bother taking a larger Windows laptop with me now, this is the right combination of size and functionality. Battery life is still pretty solid, couldn't tell you how long but I haven't seen significant deterioration.
did it come with a Lenovo USI Pen? The specs seems to suggest it
@mrshorty: 2020 model will be a different model and have a different spec. Appears from the spec sheet this one comes with a pen.
On a related note, my child is currently doing high school NAPLAN testing in NSW and we are a bit annoyed to find that BYOD Chromebooks are not supported for the testing process (I think the school maintained Chromebooks can still be used).
Bit of a stuff up on education system's behalf I think.
YSK: NAPLAN is there to assess the teachers and the school, not the students. If the school can't get their act together well enough to administer the test of their competence, don't let them make that your problem.
Oh I realise that and they did offer workarounds, I think they offered school maintained devices to those that didn't have a compatible BYOD device, just seemed a bit odd that they had to do that and I'm not sure that they would have had enough devices to go around if there was a lot of students in the same boat. My child ended up taking a BYOD ipad to school for the testing instead of the Chromebook.
Battery life is good, been sitting there like 2 months but still got 90% battery, display is also good because the high resolution. Very suitable for some light office works, streaming, cloud gaming, web browsing. The mouse pad is sensitive.
Based on the model number, looking at the specs sheet this is actually a Chromebook Plus so will get some of the Chromebook Plus "Extras" if that's important to you. Good price (by Australian standards) for this unit. Would certainly buy if I didn't already have 4 Chromebooks :P

C340 is a little 11.6" N4000, 4GB Chromebook. Was working contract and the client gave me this huge stonking, heavy 15.6" Dell which was not ideal for carrying around to take quick notes and look at floor plans which was a big part of the job, so this was my test the water Chromebook which turned into my gateway Chromebook :P Cost me $200 due to some JB HiFi voucher deal.
After ending this contract bought a Flex 5 13" (i5 10th gen processor, 4GB) as my home machine. My needs are pretty basic these days and I can do 99% of my personal stuff on this as it's all web based .
Ozbargain had the original Duet 10.1 for $265, bought as my travel/portable Chromebook. It'll be accompanying me to Bali tomorrow for a couple of weeks for recreation and maybe a small amount of work.
Found a good deal on the Flex 5i 13" (i5 11th gen, 8GB ). This is now my primary home/WFH notebook connected to a Dell dock and 2 X 24" monitors. The old Flex 5 is downstair as my "I'm too lazy to carry things up and down the stairs even though there's a lift" machine.
So really the C340 is the only "dead" member of the fleet.
Can you live your life on the web and/or via Android apps (not all of them are compatible) or Linux subsystem? While as I say Chromebook suits me 99% of the time my needs may differ from your :) Have an old Dell E7270 which has a 64GB Windows partition and a 128GB Mint Linux partition which gets used so infrequently that it's always flat when I need it :P I have a work Windows machine (Surface Laptop) used in the office and when Office 365 web just won't cut it but most of my WFH stuff is done on the Chromebook.

Any USI 1 or 2 pen will work. The spec sheet makes it appear that this will come with a pen (most likely the Lenovo USI 1 pen)

I also got one too…. just wondering what kind of battery life you have in yours? Mine is only getting close to 6 hour battery life (not the 8-10 hours as others said on YouTube). Also, I feel like the trackpad is not very smooth, what's your experience with that?
@birdnw: light web browsing it says about 7:30 remain when at 100%, more intensive stuff it says approximately 4:30, it's varied depending on the task, though i obviously can't say extensively what it has been like after a couple days of use with limited battery monitoring.
trackpad seems fine, though i am not much of a laptop user so i dont have much of a frame of reference and half the time i've been using a wireless mouse as that's what i'm used to.
@birdnw: The battery seems a bit bugged, try setting your brightness to half, turn off bluetooth and restart it. I did that and after watching Youtube for 40 mins or so it only used 6% battery and estimated 6:30hrs left.
I have a similar experience with the trackpad, even the click of the mouse feels off.
I've also had issues with the UI not updating when folding it between laptop/tablet mode, getting the cursor displaying sideways, etc.
Overall happy with it, but I would feel ripped off if I paid $1100.
Purchased, but not sure why. I have had a few Chromebooks before. I also have the super deal on the Surface Pro 5. Will think about it over the weekend before I need to collect it. Easy cancelling if I need to. The OzBargain way!

I was about to upgrade but think the 14 inch screen is likely worse, only 45% NTSC, and heavier at 1.58 kg - the 2020 model was FHD 13.3 72% NTSC and 1.35 kg.

My son needed a Chrome book for yr 7 (Daughter just behind him in yr 6) so I actually bought more than one.
I was sure it was a pricing error, or just becasue the 2020 model is very discontinued and thought they only had the i5 2022 model in stock. Since the price quietly went back but the rest of the Chromebook sale is still on too.

The specs and photos are still different. Thats what made me think JB discounted the 2022 with what they would have priced the 2020 if they had any left.
Maybe they updated the SKU when they updated the price yesterday because I swear they were different (old person memory so I may be wrong on that). But there was definately a Flex 5 14" in 2020 and a Felx i5 14" in 2022.

Anyone tried some retro gaming on it? Retroarch etc.
Run Android retroarch on previous model ( i5 11th Gen, 8GB memory) and it works a treat and have used Dolphin for Gamecube.
Surprised the android play store version of Retroarch is years old.
Think I may just stick with the old Surface Pro 5 I got from an OzBargain deal for just over $150. Apart from poor battery life, it does what I need.

Why do you feel you should have kept it? I ended up ordering two units, and tried to return one by rejecting the delivery from toll.
It was cheap, I wonder if I should have got something better though, the battery life is poor, the fans often run, and the screen doesn't look great compared with any of my external monitors.
Not sure. Just seemed like some tech to re-explore. Watching chrome unboxed on YouTube made me interested again.
But I knew also that it was tech that already made me slightly annoyed like you said above. Also how it handles OneDrive. No profiles in chrome (yet), super old version of retroarch and to get the latest via side loading involved putting it into developer mode.
I am now content. Just FOMO for me I think.
Chromebooks are great at being Chromebooks, and garbage at everything else.
If you want to use OneDrive and Retroarch etc then a Chromebook wasn't a good choice - they're not "general purpose" computers.
