Lesson learned from the closing of the eshop. Buy physical where you can!!!

Physical games will hold their value too.

      • Sounds like the switch 2 will carry games over thanks to the nintendo account - though it's not been confirmed.

      • +1

Definitely easier to have them digital with kids though - the game cards are tiny and REAL easy to lose

        • Is there a workable solution to sharing games on multiple consoles? I have 2 kids with a switch each and buying physical has been the only way I’ve found for them to share games.

      • Buy physical where you can!!!

Physical gets annoying. Maybe it's fine if you only play at home on one Switch, but if you carry one around, or you have more than one Switch, it becomes a chore.

Yes, closure of the eShop wasn't great, but modders have found ways to play backup games on the Wii U and 3DS. I've been able to permanently download games which I legally bought on the eShop and store them on an SD card.

All distribution formats will have issues in the long run, including physical. Many optical discs will fail over time, and even though cartridges are much more durable, they can also be damaged or lost.

Buy physical, sell, would the loss be 53.30? Not if you sell for over $30 which is easy.

  • Any games anyone recommend? I’m slowly working through Kirby forgotten lands and Mario sunshine

    • Probably all of them, except maybe Yoshi’s Crafted World. If you’re into platformers then probably Mario 3D World initially but.

      • Oh no, what's your thoughts on crafted world? I was going to get it as I usually love all things Yoshi.

        • +1

I think I found it ok, but it wasn’t a super memorable release. It’s not that it’s bad, just I didn’t find it memorable and every other title on this list is terrific and an easy recommendation.

I enjoyed Yoshis Woolly World more than crafted world and I did 100% that title.

      • Mario 3D World is a lot of fun, especially if you play with others. It's really designed as a Co-Op game.

I've surprisingly enjoyed Super Mario Wonder. I don't think it's the best thing ever, but it's good fun.

If you have the Nintendo Online subscription, I'd also suggest going back and playing Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3. They would definitely be on my list of "games to play in my lifetime".

I've always seen Tropical Freeze mentioned as one of the best platformers on the Switch.
Wish there was a demo or something but I might watch some gameplay and think about finally grabbing it. Doesn't look like it's ever gotten cheaper than this.

      What is Mario Sunshine?

      • +1

Super Mario Sunshine is Mario's flagship title on the Gamecube.

If you are a fan of each Mario title, like Odyssey, 3D World, Mario 64, you'll feel right at home. I personally haven't played it, but I have it on my list of things to tick off for 2024. (I have the 3D All Stars game)

While not Nintendo published, Disney Illusion Island appears to be the cheapest ever too. Amazon has it for $49 all the time, eShop sale price is $41.95.

  • +1

Missing from the list but also on sale is Clubhouse Games for $41.95

  • Possibly games will drop a little before the apparent flashcart releases later in the year?

    • I've seen this flashcart mentioned, what is it? I'm new to the switch…

Check out the "MIG Switch" through Google or have a look on YouTube.

    • Doubt there will be any impact at all on first party game pricing.

  • I picked up Red dead redemption in the sale too. Got notified by dekudeals that it had dropped to $48.95

I hate to say it but buying from the Nintendo eShop is a mug's game if you plan on keeping the games you have long-term

    • Why so? Do they expire?

      • Their servers will go down eventually and re-downloading them won't be an option after that.

        • +1

Ill probably be dead by then

          • @ninnypoop: The DS eshop went down less than a decade after the system was supplanted by the Switch.

  • Metroid dread is pretty fun. Got it on the same sale
