This is such a scam they can't even be bothered trying.

  • Does Revolut provide a prepaid envelope to send back the metal card on expiry? (From personal experience, metal cards are not so easy to destroy)

    • No they don’t.

    • Metal cards - can't you just cut/puncture/scratch a vital component and be done with it?

      • I had to take a grinder to my Amex. Tried many things before it escalated to that point.

I really should have asked for a return envelope.

      • Cut? No. Puncture? Only the chip area. Scratch? Yes, with an angle grinder.

Pay $130 for a piece of metal, hard decision

Im guessing some people find the lounges useful when travelling

    • +1

      It is cheaper then AMEX.

Is that just for a metal card? I don’t even use cards it’s safer and easier to use your phone.

  • They also announced to charge a 1% fee if you top up using CC from December as well

    • Oh really?? That's not good!!!

    • Damn. All good things must come to an end I guess.

Do you have a link? Tried to google it. I can see on their fee page it says they charge up to 1%, but I haven't been charged before.

I got an email from them around 3rd of November.
"We're making some changes to our Fees and Charges Section as well as to our Personal Terms (collectively, "the Terms") that will apply to you. These changes will take effect from 4 December 2022.

        What's changing?
The following changes will be made to the Terms:

Pre-authorisation holds (Section 13 of the Personal Terms): Certain merchants may ask us to authorise a Revolut Card transaction in advance. When this happens, we may place a temporary hold on your Revolut Card. Once the transaction settles, you'll only be charged the final transaction amount, and any excess amount held will be released
Australian credit card top-up surcharge (Fees and Charges Section): If you add money to your Revolut Account from an Australian credit card, we may charge a fee of up to 1% of the transaction amount
All other card top-up surcharges (Fees and Charges Section): The fees we may charge for adding money to your Revolut Account from international cards as well as Australian corporate cards have decreased"

  • When the first 250 New Eligible Customers have claimed their Discount Offer the New Eligible
Customer Promotion Period will end and the Discount Offer will no longer be accessible within
    the Revolut app.

If you are planning a few overseas trips next year, 1% cashback from overseas spending and free ATM withdrawal can help to offset the $130. Still not sure whether it is worth it or not.

    • +1

Lol just use Up or ING to withdraw cash

      • Yep, the neo banks offer no fees on withdrawls and purchases, and the 1% cashback will be worth little if you have to pay 130 a year for the luxury of getting it. An absolute rip.

Revolut metal offers no fees for atm withdrawls up to $1400 a month, whereas neobanks like Up are unlimited.

    • I did 4 months in the UK & France and used cash once (UK taxi). You need multiple cards (particularly if they're debit cards) as you can't rely on any one working everywhere.

  • Revolut is great for creating virtual debit card numbers, aside from that, I personally wouldn’t bother paying extra, the basic account has served me well.

This metal card and it’s features honestly looks like a waste of money.

  • Never had a problem with Revolut. Use it regularly for one off purchases with disposable Virtual CCs.
Also good for instant money transfers to and from family and friends overseas without fees or inflated currency conversions.

My only complaint I have is that they never rewarded me for any of my referrals.

    • It happened the same to me, but with Wise. Referred friends and literally saw them transferring the required amount to make me eligible for referral, but never got it. Contacted customer service and they just copy pasted some bullshit

That being said both Revolut and wise has terrible reviews on trustpilot. I never had issues myself and understand that reviews might be the vocal minority but their stories are quite terrible especially regarding customer service so.. beware

    • Which tier of membership is required for the Virtual CC?

      • +1

Free. You get a virtual CC, can create disposable virtual CC's and get a somewhat fancy physical Visa card mailed out for free too.
