    Just an personal opinion, if you want a bulky gaming laptop, go for 3070(or above), for same bulkyness, same TDP, you get upto 50% in performance.

    Which will make your 1440P gaming experience more enjoyable.

        The thickest part if more than 2cm.

        I know the new Legion Slim 2022 is 16.9mm, that would be a better option for portability.
        It comes with 12th Intel upto 3070, or AMD 6800H 6800S.

    I second that. 3060 + QHD why would you do that.

    3060 + FHD makes sense. 3070 + QHD makes sense. 3070 + FHD makes tons of sense that's what I got. 3060 + QHD is stretching it a bit, and it's super hard to spot the difference between FHD and QHD on a 15" panel. plus scaling in Windows.

      While I do not own this laptop, I do want to point out that this is a max wattage RTX 3060 (up to 130W) which this review points out performs not too far behind some lower power RTX 3070s.

        exactly, this 3060 is full power and will be simliar to most laptop with 3070. The only real disadvantage is the 6GB ram will be a bottleneck sooner than having 8GB on a 3070. Decisions decisions.

      I would also like to add that, while FHD is pretty decent, I can definitely notice the pixels on a FHD, so I prefer a QHD screen on a 15" laptop if I can.

        QHD makes sense on a 24" or 27" external monitor, on a laptop difference isn't significant.

      If you're comparing Ryzen 7 5000 series to i7 11th gen, there is no competition. The Ryzen is better, almost the same speeds and double the battery life.

          That is true, though it depends on personal preference if you're actually going to use it.
          Main point in the two listed specs would be thunderbolt dock or storage, as using a Egpu to go from the high tgp RTX3070m to a high spec desktop GPU isn't really that great due to the bottle neck.

            The other place I found was buying from Amazon USA which allows custom 40GB RAM and some Aussies have bought no issues. Not too sure about international warranty though thus I didn't pull the trigger.

              @xdigger: Well, not PBTECH directly maybe. But they run a site on Ebay called Futuregear which has bad practices, ignoring all messages etc. My personal experience with them wasn't great. It's also a hassle in terms of returns/warranty though you are getting the correct power adapter atleast purchasing from NZ.

              Personally I would wait for all the models to come in to Aus, I've heard reports there will be quite a few coming throughout August and am awaiting response from Asus in regards to when the rest of the lineup will be coming since we are pretty limited atm.

              I'm really interested in the G14 top spec model with the 2560x1600 screen and also the G15 3070TI in Eclipse Gray (only in White rn)

      If you're going for the listed laptop, that is irrelevant as the SAVE coupon won't work with it. If you're looking at the Legion Pro 5 6th gen though that comes to 2299, I believe it should stack, going by the wording from Heldnight, but i've read a lot of horror stories about cashrewards and similar not being reliable with the payouts, even when you follow everything written.

    Not bad for a work/productivity machine as well, no thunderbolt but has USBC 135w charging. Not sure about battery size but either 60 or 80wh, reviews say around 5hr of battery life. You are missing better cooling solution from the pro model but can't complain if 14% of via cashreward works.

      An alternative mean to charge it is useful - I have an earlier Legion (Y7000) and the supplied 230W charger weighs almost a kg, lowering the overall portability of the system even further.

        Yes because a kilo is so heavy, even if the laptop with the charger are 5kg together that should not be a problem unless you are a beta male.

    damn, I wish I was a geek, lol. I have been in the market for a new laptop for many, many months and I often get so close to 'pulling the trigger' on a purchase and then BAM, OzB comments shoot it down.

    I am at a loss why a Legion Gen7, RTX3060, 1440p 15.6" screen, 16gb DDDR5, 512gb Gen4 SSD, 1080P webcam for sub-$1700 (after cashback) is awful .. it was basically all i have been hoping for all this time for circa this pricing (except 1tb SSD, lol) … comments here tell me this is a "pass" coz 3060 will run too hot and be no good on 1440p?

    Also, I had always been leaning towards Intel 12Gen being the better choice due to Thunderbolt a Port. Is this seen as a bad choice too?

        The reason people are saying it is awful is because it has a qhd monitor with a 3060 meaning it is going to struggle, the 3060 is a 1080p graphics card. It is also bad because it only has 16gb of the slow ddr5. If this laptop were used for a workload 32gb of ram would be much preferred. Since games generally use vram and not dynamic ram, 6gb would be plenty of vram to run any game. Ddr5 does not increase performance enough for its inflated price.

          Render the game in 1080p if you require the extra frames, then you can still enjoy a clearer image while not gaming.

          But again, no one has posted an alternative laptop at this price point. It's always good to see the pros and cons brought up, but people could actually find an alternative product with similar pricing to back up what they're saying.

I don’t have to find a better deal, this laptop is good but not for gaming. Historically there have been way better Lenovo laptops for cheaper.

              @NvidiaShill: I disagree that rendering at 1080p looks extra bad on a 1440p monitor compared to native 1080p especially when it's 15 inches in size. Just now I put Monster Hunter Rise into 1080p on my 27" 1440p monitor, it looks worse because it's 1080p, not because it isn't native. That's just my opinion from what I just tested and your opinion is just as valid.

              At a total cost of $1,676.14, it seems good. I haven't upvoted the deal as you can see but if someone wanted to buy a laptop of this spec today, what other options are there? Like I'm sorry but if there was a better deal a month ago or there is a better deal coming up in a month, it doesn't matter if it's not available today.

              Also I hope this doesn't come off as me having a go at you or anyone else. Whether someone buys this laptop or not doesn't actually affect anything.

      I dont think people are saying awful, its just not as good as a deal as the legion 5 was a year ago, when desktop gpu prices were still stupid and gaming laptops were actual a decent deal $ to performance wise.

      Here, cpu wise there is negligble upgrade (6000 series was mainly igpu and battery life improvments actual cpu gains are minimal, and the former two means little in a gaming laptop). DDR5 sodimm at current stages also provides no noticable improvement over DDR4. The screen is nice but its the same thing as last year, legions stock pcie 4.0 drive is also nothing special. As such you are paying the same $ for no real upgrade in performance.

      Tbf the 3060 will probably struggle in the long term with QHD. Check out Dell outlet for good deals if you’re in the market imo. Can definitely get better value from there.

    Thanks for all your input/assistance! I always 'use' Jarrods Tech vids as my guide … he always has Legion #1 .. superior in many ways .. mux, thunderbolt, stability, no screen wobble, blah blah … i prefer number pad, too. the 3060 is not really through absolute necessity, more so for attempting to vaguely 'future proof' my purchase, without too big an outlay.

    Personally, fan noise and heat are my biggest fears with any laptop.

    I am not an avid gamer, far from it. A lil thing called SecondLife is the only 'game' I tend to play. It is demanding due to heavy texturing mostly. I currently use a very old Dell Inspiron 5520, i5 Gen3, 8gb ram with an old, non-updatable AMD Radeon HD7670M card. From what I can gather, the game needs a good dedicated graphics to render thnigs properly and minimise lag.

    I was waiting for a deal for so long…. but i wanted the 12700H. although the legion gets great reviews I saw the metabox as a better option for me.
