Coming up to a Surfshark expiry. Signed up to Ivacy last night but I feel like it's much slower than SS to the UK when trying them back to back.

I might give PIA a go. Probably won't bother asking for a refund on Ivacy because it was so cheap.

      Was it this legendary deal?

    • I saw your comment on that post very late and offer in Ivacy was expired..I bought cyberghost today, 3 years for 5.2AUD.. first time vpn, so can't compare, however can stream blocked contents on popcorn 🍿 time on 1080p easily..for that cost I am happy..

So being a Pain In the Ass customer is a requisite for redeeming this deal?

    • +1

That's PITA. Close though. They do, however, have Payment In Advance as a prerequisite.

  • +2

I'd avoid the bigger ones. They always seem to have this ridiculous sales.

Surfshark also doesn't actually have a cancellation button after you sign-up. To cancel, or turn off auto-renew, as they call it, you have to write to them via chat.

Anyone know is it as simple as a different email address to be a "new" customer? They don't check anything else?

  • +2

Good product, good app. Good support. Fast servers.

Dodgy owners.. recently sold to a company in the 5 eyes collab. Fine for random web surfing not so fine for more elaborate users of web (dark)..

    • +2

what's the point of a vpn if the servers are in a 5 eyes country?

      • Using a VPN isn't going to protect you.

      • +1

They have servers in most countries including several in Aus. The parent company is based in isreal.

IE. Any of the 5 eyes can request your accounts data, which should be nothing but no guarantees.. I wouldn't use them if heavy torrents or dark web are your thing.

        • +1

then why bother with a vpn lol

          • @belongsinforums: Indeed. Privacy from the general internet but not from Governments…

Likely fine for most but not for everyone.

      • +2

For me, I use them just to get around geo-restrictions when buying from certain digital stores. Being in a 5 eyes region is of no concern to me for my use case.

        • difference between circumventing a geoblock and pirating?

          • +1

@belongsinforums: Still paying the content creators except at a rate they are offering to millions of users already in another region. That’s compared to piracy where they are getting nothing. In fact often it’s just the GST I’m saving by buying at the same price minus local tax.

I sleep easy getting content this way personally and think it’s pretty far removed from piracy.

    • Any thoughts on a decent VPN that isn't 5-eyes associated?

      • +2

iirc you'd have to make your own vpn if you really want to own your data. even then…

  • Does this work with Netflix ?

    • Did when I was a customer but that may have changed recently.. Best answered by a current customer.

    • Nope

  • does this support all countries? I heard most vpn boycoting Indian servers.
whats final cost in AUD ?

    • +1

It cost me AU$75.14 and Cashreward has tracked cash back of AU$70.56 with approval date 07-09-2022

  • topcashback.com currently is offering 100% cash back.

  • do you still need data?

    • can't connect vpn without internet

  • I'm going to be living overseas (Japan) soon, for 1.5-2 years. If I would like a way to essentially continue my internet usage as if I was still back at home in Australia. Is this the right way to go about it?
Last time i stayed in japan for 3 months, when i came back home so much stuff kept rerouting to .jp versions of sites or would render first in japanese. Plus i'd still be doing a little online work and other such stuff on australian sites, so keeping it all as 'as is' as possible would be nice.
Would like to set up like that on my PC and then just do japanese browsing on my laptop.

  • Has this deal expired. Its showing 50% cashback only.
