Good deal value wise but the ATH-M50x does NOT last. Build quality is extremely poor. Type "ath m50x hinge" on Google.

Currently 2 cables and one of the hinge clips have broken. All the pleather has rubbed off.

    • The cables and earpads are essentially consumables on most headphones you expect to last more than a year. They are easily swappable & Amazon/eBay is flooded with after market replacements.

The m50 hinges are hot garbage though.

I printed a pair of these for my old set when the hinges let go & it held them. Have another set pre-emptively on my current m50x & the hinges are fine.

  • I've been using the ATH-M50X BT for 2 years now (plugged in)
And haven't had any issues. I replaced the earpads with Brainwavs sheepskin pads straight away and they're like clouds on my ears.
Not saying the quality issues don't exist - I just haven't had any problems….yet.

I've had mine for over 3 years and not had a single issue with the hinges, although the earpads and top band foam are pretty crappy quality and did eventually flake. For the sound quality though i'm willing to deal with a few consumable parts over 3-5 years. I definitely havent babied my pair either, theyve been stood on, tossed around, in a bag and travlled across various countries.

that's awesome! Mine just sit at my pc so been babied I guess. Did you upgrade the earpads? There's a couple of different ones from Brainwavs
I obviously can't stop raving about em

Thanks for the heads up on the updated pads mate! I did end up replacing mine but with OEM parts from the US from a collector. Cost me a fair bit, but mine are the tan/blue leather special editions so i wanted to keep the look relatively original. Ill definitely grab some of these replacements tho for when these OEM pads eventually fail.

no worries, just noticed they do a dark red, dark blue as well as the normal black in the Prostock series
it's not tan but could work?

          • @ArtVanderlay: The blue definitely looks the close to the blue on the headphones themselves so thats just saved me a lot of googling, thanks again mate. You probably know this, but its so hard to let go of these cans, they're still some of the nicest over-ears i've owned, so some off colour leather doesnt bother me anymore!

            • @Shak2093: too easy! yeh, they're great! I'd definitely buy em again if anything were to happen to them

  • This ATH-M50X headphone hinge fix worked for me. It is quick, cheap and effective.
