  • Damn, i bought it for $812.99 yesterday at Sydneytec with AFterpay

    • They same company, I tried to cancel my AC 6 Pro and they replied with heading Wireless1 for return. lol.

    • Me too! Can we cancel our order and get this one?

      • They threatened in the email saying that if you use the RTS (return to sender) feature, I assumed would be the eBay returns, then they will deduct the fee of there. I checked eBay Plus guarantee terms, which has been updated last week that for remorse or change of mind, if the listing did not say "free return" then you will be slugged for return fee. Which I can't find it under Sydneytec's listing. So what the feck, just proceed with Sydneytec and cancelled my Wireless1 order.

  • Doesn't work for me.

  • Snagged a new SE after watching Gearseekers YouTube vid https://youtu.be/Bpfuy-_QgAA on his new Ubiquiti home office setup. Total Prosumer overkill but should do the biz for years to come.

  • Should I buy a UDM SE to replace my original UDM, or is there a good deal on a switch with POE for cameras?

    • POE switches see to be quite expensive right now .. you probably should get this and sell your existing UDM.. as long as the # of ports is enough for you, and you have a place to put this ( form factor is quite different ).

      • Sorry, I meant my original UDM Pro, not the free standing UDM machine. I've got a small maybe 8 RU rack with my UDMP and a HP micro server currently, and a 8 port switch, that had 4x poe ports, that currently power my WAP, wanting to put in cameras tho, and will need more POE ports.

Normal udm pro out of stock. Been going back and forth all day on whether to purchase. At least out of stock decided for me.

  • I have no love for Ubiquity, they have peaked and their time has passed.
Calling these prosumer not is just a false label.

They are missing so many prosumer features and they have added nothing serious to their systems capabilities in the last 5 years whilst still releasing newer hardware.

One glaring example is the lack of sensible means to set a static DNS entry.
This is achievable from the web UI of the Edge Router devices, but is still an empty promise on Unifi.

If your network fits into a neat little Unifi box then you're all set, they aren't bad.
But don't even consider looking outside that box, you'll get your fingers slapped.

Agreed. Still use them for switching because they're damn good looking and performing switches, but even then they (profanity) up and use different shades of blue LEDs and cheap ones that die way too early. Oh and cameras, besides the price point (although not being able to run the Protect App on a VM is crap).

Also their Cloud Keys are dogshit.

    • Can you elaborate on the issue you have with configuring DNS?

      • Yeah, no such ability exists in Unifi.
That is the issue right there.

I have a server / domain name that has a let's encrypt security certificate, and for the certificate to work i need to access the server from my browser on my lan using it's full domain name.

In any other prosumer hardware it's a non issue.

In the Edge Router there was CLI support for it followed not long after by GUI support.

In Unifi there is not total solution.
There are 2 workarounds that reset themselves and break at least semi regularly.

The Unifi team continually say they will add this, but after 5 or 6 years nothing has come.

        • I have a server / domain name that has a let's encrypt security certificate, and for the certificate to work i need to access the server from my browser on my lan using it's full domain name.

I also do this - it works just fine if you use something like DynDNS to allocate a hostname to your dynamic internet IP, which you can then direct your Domain to, and then port-forward the correct port on your Unifi so that you can access the server from inside your LAN via it's external domain name and IP.

Your server is server.virtual81.com with the appropriate certificate.
Setup your DynDNS account virtual81.dyndns.com to point at your dynamic IP in the Unifi interface.
Add a CNAME to your virtual81.com domain for server.virtual81.com pointing at virtual81.dyndns.com.
Port forward :443 (or whatever you want to use) on your Unifi to the server's IP.
Connect to https://server.virtual81.com:443 from inside your LAN and voila.
(server.virtual81.com points to virtual81.dyndns.com which points to your dynamic internet IP, and the port forward bounces it across the NAT)

What you are trying to do with DNS that doesn't work ? Add a DNS entry for server.virtual81.com inside your LAN ? There's no need…

          • @Nom: seems virtual81 wants the UDM to host a dns zone and have a records that points fqdn internally.

you should really setup your own dns server either in a pi or docker container. there's already great stuff out there like adguard, pi-hole or just the built in ones in any os. setup your zone and put what ever A record you want in there and have the UDM point to that. bonus is you get better speeds since you are blocking so much unwanted services websites try to give you.

that said there are hacks to let UDM run docker so you can run what ever extra services you need that it doesnt support

            • @QuQ: Honestly a totally sensible answer, but part of the supposed appeal of Unifi is to have a unified environment.

Could totally setup a a DNS server, but i'm really trying to keep things slim both physically and logically, essentially don't want another 'thing' to have to manage.

That and as i said, they have promised it for years.

          • @Nom: This works if you want both external and internal access.
However the service I wish to access I do not want to create a port forward for.

    UDM-Pro user here.

    1. DNS entry is now supported in EA (Early Release, aka BETA)… Click on any client under client devices. Assign it a fixed IP address, turn on "Local DNS Record", and you can put in a DNS record (I assume it'll be A and AAAA). Yet to test this as I'm already using Pi-Hole to manage my local DNS (and doing DNS over TLS to block ads on Android devices). Can't do CNAME.

For me personally with my existing PiHoles I don't see a need to use UDM-Pro's DNS server, ever.

    1. As for LE/ZeroSSL, just use a SSL proxy (HAProxy) and never have to worry about changing certificates on the router itself.

There are many things to like. New L7 firewall, WAN routing, etc. But only if you know what you're doing, as there's no serious technical support. And their forum is full of noise, and Unifi firmware UI keeps changing, so there can be some got'chas. You have to read through 30 pages of noise, and it's easy to miss that 5 important posts.

Note, the UDM-Pro is not perfect.
    1. Firewall configuration is the worst I have ever used. Ever! It shits me to no end! They designed the L2 firewall UI just to make people mad.
    2. Can't capture packets from GUI
    3. That 8 port switch is useless. Don't use it, there's not enough bandwidth for full wirespeed.

Of course you can go with pfSense, OPNSense, Untangle, Meraki etc and get all the bells and whistles.. I'm using UDM-Pro (and just ordered the SE) because I can get that "single pane of glass".

    Disclaimer: YMMV.

    • Every reason you list the Pro not being perfect are all top reasons preventing me from upgrading from the USG.

My next switch WILL support 2.5G or 10G, at or near wirespeed
802.3at on at least a few ports

It's looking like it will be a few years minimum before Unifi offer such included on a Dream Machine type unit.
Really is looking like it's best to remain on separate switching, routing and wifi hardware.

Not having user friendly Pro or prosumer diagnostics like packet capture is just one of a long list of items missing.

It's the kind of system that, when working well is brilliant, but when not, it won't help you figure much if anything out.

      • I use the 8 port Aggregation Switch - https://www.wireless1.com.au/ubiquiti-unifi-8-port-10g-sfp-a… - for my switch needs. It's great once you spend even more money on 1Gb and 10Gb transceivers for your gear.
But it doesn't support 100Mb transceivers so I can't connect my old APC UPS to it … there's always something 😂😂

  • Code is not working. Expired?

    • Code is not working for SE. Expired ?

      • +1

Yeah. Expired. Next "best" price is here Ebay+ (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/706547)

Ordered mine on the 15th, received on the 17th (Perth).

Backup my UDM-Pro and restore the backup on the SE, and everything (Network + UID) seems to work. Pretty painless so far.

  • Very annoyed. Every time I seem to miss the deal on udm-pro.
    :(
