RYOBI 18V ONE+ 1.5ah Home Essentials Combo Kit $159 @ Bunnings

250

Saw this ad on the telly this morning - comes up in google search listings for Bunnings but the search link does not go to the product - so I have posted the Ryobi link for now. The item is advertised on page 5 of the current Bunnings catalogue for $159.

The drill and battery is approximately $90 on its own - I did buy this exact drill last year and super impressed with it - has heaps of torque and having the 1.5 amp hour sized battery is best for weight on this drill. It is also a very comfortable grip and has a light which I have been grateful for.

Heaps of extras, drills and bits, add in the tools all adds up to great value! (and a bag…)

If you already have one cordless drill, having another is bliss. One with the drill bit, one with the driver - no changing - work faster!

Price and store in title please.

  • Pretty brutal review on that site you linked and I'm going to follow it. They can do better and this is not a bargain.

Pretty brutal neg before you know the price.

      • …the price is on the Ryobi site that was linked.

So you’ve assumed OP posted a deal at RRP??

          • @watts: He’s nuts

          • @watts: well yes that what they have done

            • @cozmo: Sure seems like it, but I’ll hold judgement until OP fixes the post.

Unlikely Bunnings would discount a new Ryobi product though.

              • +1

@watts: Perhaps I was too quick to judge so I've removed my neg vote. If you think this is a bargain then so be it.

                • @nuts: Nothing at RRP is a bargain. Might be good value and a handy set for some people though.

                  • @watts:

Nothing at RRP is a bargain.

You mistake discount for bargain, young Jedi. Of course RRP can be a bargain, if it's substantially less than the competition. These are called "long-running bargains" here. OTOH, are Colesworths items on discount every other week a bargain? Hardly.

                    • @wisdomtooth:

                      You mistake discount for bargain

And you mistake bargain for deal. OZbargain is full of both, but they're not the same thing and I was only referring to bargains.

A bargain to me (and the dictionary) is a price lower than usual, and this doesn't meet that definition since it's the usual price from the one place you can buy it.

It might be a good deal for some people though.

                      These are called "long-running bargains"

I think you mean "Long Running Deals"

  • So how much is it?

  • Is the deal $160?

  • currently, bunnings have it at RRP on their website…

    I would rather get https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-2-0ah-drill-driver…
and spend the $60 I save on buying the bits and pieces I want also has a bigger battery 2ah compared to 1.5ah

    tell us the price son!

    • It's a ploy to get you to watch the adverts on "telly this morning".

    This thread is so 2020.

Probably not worth paying the extra $60 for the "add-ons". Most of those bits you'll never look at again and toss them out in 5 years when they're covered in rust. The phillips head bit will break on your third use. Probably just better off getting the individual add-ons if you need them (it'd likely be cheaper anyhow). Just my 2c worth!

    • I don’t see much in that set that’s not ‘essentials’, for someone with no tools already.

For the people this set is aimed at I think it’s pretty good coverage and value.

No discount so no upvote from me though.

I almost bought this kit until I started browsing around further and decided I should get better drill so I went with the pricier brushless drill kit.
As for the tool items more suited for starters, I did some mental calculation and figured it wasn't that much cheaper than buying better spec items individually.

Other starter tools weren't too necessary for me but I'll list a couple of stuff I found from the other father's day specials down here.

Link to Father's Day Catalogue, there's a bunch of drilling & driving bits there:

Whole tool kit for starters with bag:

    Measuring tape:

    Brushless drill kit I mentioned:

If you're looking for the exact drill in this kit, I'd even recommend the kit itself which should be better with the additional & larger battery:

Realistically a good beginners kit, especially for young fathers, that don't have many tools.

A better drill than the Ozito equivalent, or the other cheapies that Bunnings have.

      Plus a 6 year warranty?

Oh, and all the tools are colour co-ordinated, and matching. :)

I paid $199 for my 1st Ryobi drill driver, with 2 batteries @ 10 years ago. 2.4A, only to buy a hammer drill skin a week or so later. ($179).

I think I've purchased @ 8 Ryobi drills, of various types. Generally, I've bought combo kits for certain parts, then resold the drills on Gumtree.

Currently I have my original Drill driver & hammer drill, plus a 2nd hammer drill. However, the Impact driver is by far the best, and most used of all my drills (when using the right drill bits like Sutton or Bosch).

      • Why'd you get the hammer drill so soon after? I'm also deciding whether I should go with hammer drill instead of the drill driver. I've got a corded hammer drill I rarely use so I probably won't need it.

And then theres whether I should bother with brushless but I have a feeling I don't need that too.

  • OP back. Posted this deal early this morning after watching the ad and only gave sketchy detail. Apologies for the false start on this deal and appreciation to the mods that helped prop it back up with detail and the cattle dog link. I would have to maintain my position on validity of this deal based on rock solid Ryobi ONE+ ecosystem and quality of the drill. Getting the drill bits and drivers make it worth while. All the tools/bag/fluff would be the cream.

BUT if you are keen ring your local Bunnings. When I rang a big Brissie store (Newstead) at 3pm today they had four left and they will hold for you.

All the best - thanks again - love the OzB pounding commentary - keeps us all honest and factual.

Father's day sorted - cattle, dog, drill and bits. Couldn't ask for more
