    Hi, Any discount on Play 5 or Sonos Sub?

    • +4

      I second this. OP, Play 5 deal?

      Edit: Wait a minute! Sonos have no Bluetooth capability? What on earth!

      • Wifi is better than bluetooth. Bluetooth needs a constant connection and drops out if you're behind a wall or more than a few metres away.

        • So are there speakers that support both, Wifi & Bluetooth? I also read people saying you can't stream audio from YouTube & Spotify with Sonos, not sure if that's true or not.

        • +1

          @AussieDaddy: I was going to go for the sonos until I heard about this. Ended up going with Bose SoundTouch & have been very happy

        • +2

          @AussieDaddy: You can stream from spotify, you can even do it through the spotify app.

        • @yobeets: You can? That's good. I read in a YouTube comment someone saying that it doesn't (or rather didn't) have Spotify connect. Probably older generations didn't have that capability then.

        • +1

          @AussieDaddy:

          I had a Bose Soundtouch for a week and it had dropouts all the time

          Took it back and got a Sonos Play 1 x 2

          Much better overall inc sound etc

        • @Twisty: Cheers, Twisty. The lack of Bluetooth in the Sonos made me kinda uncomfortable, but I will give it a go if I find a good Play:5 gen 2 deal. They're usually pricey.

        • @AussieDaddy: I can confirm that you can stream from spotify direct but you can not stream via You tube direct. You need to use Sonos app and the services supported via Sonos app can be found here: https://www.sonos.com/en-au/streaming-music?_ga=2.48411492.3…

        • @Sulpu: How is the Sonos app? I think I read somewhere that there was an issue streaming through their app in the past, not sure if that has been a major issue or not. It was just people making comments under Sonos reviews when I was looking at different Sonos a while ago, so it might not be an issue.

        • +1

          @yobeets:

          Half correct, you can only stream from a spotify paid account. Free account does not work.

        • @Twisty: you’ve been unlucky. Had mine a few months now and it hasn’t failed once

        • +1

          @AussieDaddy: Not a big fan to be honest but it does the job. I am using Sonos app from last 6 months now without any issue major issue (crashed once or twice). I still prefer direct streaming from the native app instead of going to Sonos app.
          Still I am big fan of Sonos because of the sound quality and ease of setup.

        • @Sulpu: Thanks for the 411, mate. I never owned one, so if these guys make a good deal then I'll get one, and hope for the best. I have been eyeing few different speakers lately, as headphones are my only daily listening devices. Shit may damage my hearing if I don't stop using them for 10+ hours everyday. lol

        • +2

          @AussieDaddy:

          Trust me you won’t regret it, Sonos is way better in very single way. You just stream from Sonos app. It uses WiFi but it you connect just one speaker to Ethernet connection it forms its own WiFi bridge for all speakers

        • @wangsk: There is a work around if you stream via desktop

        • @cornbeef: Interested in the workaround. I'm also of the understanding that Bose only works with Spotify Premium.

        • @Twisty: Not really comparable. I have had a Bose SoundTouch 30, series 3 for 2.5 years now with zero dropouts. I also compared both at the time of purchase (using my own music sources rather than the manufacturers' display setup) and found the Bose sound to be superior. Ultimately this is is a pure subjective choice and one that does not make one better than the other.

        • @et tu brute:

          Just my opinion tho having the Bose soubdtouch for 1 week

          Dropouts put aside, the Sonos is my books sounds better all round.

          YouTube reviews also seem to have the same thought

          But hey everyone to their own in the end

        • @Twisty:

          That is not 100% correct for quite a while now, you won't need to connect any speaker to Ethernet anymore, as you can connect them straight to your WiFi

        • +1

          @Olli:
          True
          What I meant was it’s a option

        • @cheapoguy: From recollection - you open the spotify app through the chrome browser, hit the cast tab at the top right and cast it to the chromecast audio in the devices listed.

        • +1

          @Sulpu:
          Sonos is promising Airplay 2 support later in the year. If you have iOS you'll be able to stream from any app including YouTube.

        • @wizzfizz:yes I heard that. I have the iOS and waiting for airplay 2

      • +8

        Hey there,
        We don't have any additional discount on offer on the Play:5 at the moment as we elected to put the Play:3 front and centre this week. Though we're happy to try to make something happen for you folks over the coming weeks if there's interest in the Play:5 also.

          Do that please. I am interested if there will be a decent Play:5 deal in the near future.

        • +1

          Please do a Sub and Play :1 promotion.

        • +2

          @wangsk:
          yes sub for ~750 :)

        • @chutibuti:

          I got a playbar, wanna make it a full system…

        • @wangsk:
          Same here , bought playbar sometimes back for 749 from HN, had opportunity buy the SUB for same price, but didnt get the approval :(,

        • @chutibuti:

          same, my wife doesn't know the cost of the playbar…i told her it is just a shitty cheap sound bar…
          I put it on the floor and my 2 years old walks on it like a balance beam for like 6 months. I can prove that the structure is very good.

        • The play 5 has an aux input yeah? I'm holding out for the Google Home Max but if I can plug a Chromecast audio into it then that might be the solution…

    Play 5 at a amazing deal plz!!!

    Hi all, just my experience with Sonos: it's the best!!!! I've had it for four years. Not one item has failed out of ten units. (yes 10) It uses mesh networking which means it passes the wireless signal from the closest unit to the router to the next unit and so on. It doesn't drop out. The sound is superb. The other thing that is good apart from the quality of the product is the constant upgrading of software and the addition of new features. And they listen to their customers and incorporate consumer requests.

    Bluetoooth: definitely not an option or a requirement for the reasons someone pointed out above. (you can stream music from your phone anyway with Sonos and they have a line in)
    Ours interfaces with Alexa (Amazon) and we can tell it to start, stop, play etc. When speaking to Alexa, the volume is automatically lowered to enable clear communication: it then resumes normal volume.
    Finally, we use home automation, Fibaro in fact and can use the iPhone app to adjust the volume or turn it off (even from overseas: I know…why?).
    You cannot find a better, more reliable system than Sonos. (we have Spotify linked but you can link many other streaming services). There are many pretenders but Sonos is head of the pack. I have looked at all other contenders and they fall short.
    I do not work for Sonos, nor do I receive any incentive to write this.

    • Very true ,,, Sonos is not for everyone.. & its expensive.. Good quality… What I heard was,very limited margin to sellers for any discounts..

  • Has anyone dealt with warranty issues with Elite Electronics before? Did you have to send the item back to them, or how does it work? I'm keen on purchasing a gimbal from them but I just can't find anything on them, so any experiences/comments would be much appreciated :)

      Hey samsamsam, :)
      Our apologies for the delay - We've not had an issue with any Sonos gear to date as it's pretty rock solid to be perfectly honest. Though in the rare event that a warranty claim needs to be made, you'll simply need to get in touch with our returns team via email to detail the issue, and they'll happily be able to help out from there. Or you're welcome to contact Sonos Australia directly for further assistance if preferred.

      If you'd prefer to have us handle the warranty claim for you, we'll first try to help troubleshoot the issue you've experienced with you (as it may be able to be remedied without the need for return). If the product does need to be returned, we'll immediately provide return instructions to you so that the product can be sent back for assessment under warranty.

      We endeavour to make all returns as seamless as possible so that you're not without your gear for lengthy periods of time.

      Hopefully this helps, and feel free to let us know if you have any further questions.

      • That sounds reassuring! I’ve been wanting to buy a zhiyun gimbal but they’re a chinese company so I was really worried about warranty issues. I’ll keep an eye or for your future deals on them then! ;)

        • +1

          Not a problem at all! The Zhiyun gear has proven to be quite popular and very robust as far as we can tell. Reviews are very positive also, so you can't really go wrong. :)
