Apparently we aren't supposed to do these on Ozb according to the do's and don'ts as the L plate speaks for itself.. Doesn't stop everyone from doing it though :P

No, because monkey see and monkey do and people don't bother checking the guidelines before starting. Here they are.

      • Interesting that I get negged whenever I mention this. Negger, are you suggesting the starting etiquette in the wiki is wrong?

      • +2

Here it is, in plain English for the nagger to see:

        • New users shouldn't write I'm new, don't flame me etc.

For first time posters, it's best to avoid telling the community that you are new and asking them to take it easy on you. The “L-plate icon” will be shown to indicate if this is your first post.

Here is one for you, pennypacker, and me now:

          Off Topic

When comments veer from discussions on the product, moderators may unpublish them. If there are too many members going off topic then discussions may be closed. The intent of comments is to help inform members about the bargain, be it issues, points of clarification alternative offerings etc. Excessive ramblings reduce the visibility of these points that may assist our members with the bargain and will be restricted.

So normal price at PC Byte is $141 and they say 20% off.

Normal price at MSY is $118

    • +9

Fair enough man, but $113.20 is still cheaper than $118?

      • How about cash rewards?

    • Shame you got negged.
You highlighted a reality that it's a real world $5 saving.

So yes, I know it's a saving but as you pointed out not as great as one might think.

OP good first post. A saving is still a saving!

  • Hey anyone knows performance implications of using sata3 in a usb3 housing as an external drive. I want to ditch my external USB3 HDD and throw one of these (480 or 240GB's) in (to supposedly accelerate searching a particular PDF document using a keyword from it's contents).

    • USB3 provides up to 5Gbps bandwidth or ~640MB/s which is faster than the maximum transfer rate of SATA3, so no bandwidth limitation issues with running one of these in an enclosure.

      • Umm Sata 3 has a max bandwidth limit of 6gbps?

    • I've seen mentions of slow latency of USB3 on the web, but can't interpret it in my proposed use case above.

  • Anyone have these as an external boot drive for Imac and comment on performance?
