New Nintendo 3DS XL $178, New 3DS $148.01 - Harvey Norman

1050

Cheapest price ever (previous best for an XL was Target - $183.20 during ebay 20% off, excluding cashrewards).

Keep in mind that Target ebay no longer has the XL. And that cashback websites seem to be 2% now. So this is the best you could hope for unless Nintendo officially drops the RRP.

Limited stock. One XL available at Innaloo. Two regular size. I appreciate that is less than the minimum for ozbargain, but obviously there's going to be stock in other stores. So, call your local store to ask.

No brodening! Share the love!

Possibly other deals, eg: Polar FT7 $78

PS: lol at the extra 1c on the regular size ;)

If someone buys the new 3ds xl could they post up what firmware it is please.

I bought a second hand one from ebay for my girlfriend for xmas but the 3d is broken, i need to get a new one but still want to put CFW on it.

    • +5

You can downgrade now. I've got a rxtools emunand set up on my New 3DS XL. Have also managed to play a snes, gba, nes, genesis, ps1 etc through Retroarch.

      • Can you downgrade below the factory firmware?

        • He just said you can.

        • +1

@nick nick: Ah alright, just making sure because from my experience you couldn't downgrade PSP's and PS3's below their factory firmwares.

        • @bobmorris5632: You can downgrade some PS3's firmware AFAIK

        • +1

@bobmorris5632: yeh depends on the model of PS3 , older ones you could downgrade with EPROMs etc very messy stuff… I got your question 😊

      • Oh cool! Is that from any version?

        • +3

Works on 10.3.0-28 which is the latest firmware right now :)

      • +2

Keep in mind that you can only install 9.5 emuNAND on the new 3DS consoles. If attempting to downgrade on the new 3DS, many people suggest waiting for the KTM (kernel time machine) method to avoid complications with soft bricking. Doesn't seem to be an issue on the old 3DS though.

    • What's the best firmware to look out for, or doesn't matter it matter too much?

      • +3

Before these exploits came out (a few weeks ago) between 4.0 and 4.5 were for the Gateway card.

Since every firmware is exploitable, even if you get a 10.3.0 3DS (which you probably wouldn't since they sit on the shelf for a while), the 3DS can be downgraded to 9.2.

9.2 allows for most of the homebrew applications AFAIK. I haven't touched my 3ds in a while. Just trying to stay in the loop :)

        • Do you need to buy an extra hardware to install CFW? I only need the region unlock features.

        • +7

          @Duoka:

Previously you needed a Gateway card (similar to what a Pandora Battery was to a PSP). Now all you need is an SD card and time to kill.

Here's all you need to know: https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/3ztqqv/all_you_ne…

        • @SnowDragon: Thanks, time to play my NTSC SMT 4

        • @SnowDragon: top link dude - thanks for that.

        • Does CFWs offer gameshark features? That's pretty much all I want for my 3ds, getting bored of grinding in games lol.

        • @ProjectZero:

Some research suggests yes. I know the Gateway card now does support cheats and such, so I'd assume that CFW achievs the same thing.

Sorry, I can't really help you in that regard.

        • @SnowDragon: No problems, I couldn't really find whether it supported gameshark so I just wanted to see if you knew.

I'm a vita for life gamer but $178 for the new XL is real tempting!

    • I love my vita but the homebrew scene is so far behind the 3ds which has had so much progress over the last year. Wish better emulators were available under rejuvenate that took advantage of the vitas power like n64.

    • Same. Very tempted by this despite me having an absurdly long backlog to get through on Vita.

    • +1

I have both (Vita first), and I don't regret it. There's just completely different types of games on each platform, in many ways they're not competing with each other but fulfilling different roles.

      • +1

I'm just concerned about my backlog of vita games. Add 3ds to the list and I think it will end up like my steam library!

        • +2

Owned both since launch. I doubt you could get a bigger backlog than mine lol.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: I bet my backlog is larger than your one haha

        • @supnigs: I don't know about that lol. I can't fit my backlog onto my two 64gb cards, then there's around 30 of my 50 retail games (this is only for the Vita!)

        • +1

@Where's_That_Cake: oh! Your vita collection is about the same as mine :) I can tell you we own more of a collection than EB

        • +1

My grandma has more of a collection than eb and she doesn't even own a vita.

    • get both bro, like me :D

  • +1

Gonna see if my local EB will price match.

  • Damn that is cheap. Now is the absolute perfect time to buy too, with the recent advances in CFW.

  • +6

Don't get over excited, HN pricing is store dependent, especially if it's not advertised. So don't be disappointed if your local store refuse to honour it.

    • +1

I have never seen these at any of my surrounding HN stores

  • its hardly normal so dont get too excited.
their listed stock levels are a joke so online orders of low stock are unlikely to arrive.
    call store to check stock

    • Complain to them and they will bring. Complain thru threir website or facebook page.

  • Hope there are heaps but my locals don't have 3ds's

  • +2

All 3DS firmware is currently exploitable by CFW, which means you can run homebrew apps.

If you haven't got a 3DS already, now is the time!

    • got 2, and downgrade both to 9.2 and have everything installed and gw card! awesome good summer time!!

      • do we need to buy gateway card?
and where did u get it?

        • if you can go down to FW 9.2 you don't need to buy anything but a bigger sd card. I got a 32gb and it seems like enough. all it takes is time to learn how.

  • +1

    2%

Great prices. On par with using the code for the 2DS ($129) from Target (Click & Collect or free delivery) that tightarse provided on Friday.

Son has a 3DS already (that I paid much, much more for a few years ago), so I don't believe I should invest in another though. This Nintendo stuff is quite tough and durable; he has retained all these "Game Boy" units and games from way back.

  • +1

Whats the next best price for the 3DSXL? No harvey normans near me :(
I talked myself out of getting one a while ago as running old emulators wasn't easy, but if its easier now then I might just have to get one.

    • +3

      Big W - $250 link
      EB - $249 link
      JB - $244 link
      Target - NA
      Dick Smiths - Hahahaha
      Ebay - $240 link
      OzGameShop - $242 link

      Anywhere else sell them?

      • +7

        Dick Smiths - Hahahaha

  • I brought it during mid year target special roughly the same price 2015, great 3d system but very limited games :( only game finished: fire emblem…
I expect that sequel to cost about the same as the console…

  • as 10.3 version . it is downgradeble and crack able. get it now guys!!!!!pm me if you dont know how to crack!!

    • Just got one, if you could advice where to look at or what would be needed to start, it'd be great!

      Thanks :)

  • +5

And that ebay has neutered cashrewards to 1%.

eBay didn't neuter anyone. Cashrewards voluntarily decided to lower their rebate to 1%, but were then forced to increase it to 2% - possibly due to the backlash on this website.

No other cashback website changed their rebates in relation to eBay.

PricePal is offering all consumers a flat 2% rebate on eBay purchases, proving that CR took everybody for a ride, blatantly pointing the finger at eBay instead.

Thanks for the info. Post updated so that I'm not spreading lies.

  • +2

next Tuesday gonna have Nintendo server maintained, which usually means an update is taking place. if 10.4 get released, it is going to be hard to crack. so get it and intall hbl before next tuesday !

    • You think i should keep my low firmware and not update?

      • low is better, but as if right now, all version is crackable. and once cracked, you are free forever~

        • Whats the ideal firmware number at the mo? I read that 9.2 is the best but others say 10.3.0 is hackable via the web browser hack.
I got one from EB and its got 9.0.

        • +1

@irishjoe: lucky you. just to ahead install cfw and you are good to go !!remeber get a 4bg> tf card! class10 minimum

        • @Hornpub: I put a 64gb in there, one of the really quick ones too. :)

Ebay cashrewards has not been neutered

Good old Harvey Norman. Jacking up the price on the N3DS XL to $298 when the RRP is $249.95. LOL

  • To anyone upgrading from old 3ds to New 3ds, is it worth it? How is the 3d eye tracking?

    • Good if you like 3d.

    • All signs point to Yes.

    • Hmm; I had assumed that there was only one 3DS (apart from the XL). May need to reconsider.

    • I turned the 3d off on the old 3ds pretty much straight away. Too much of a PIA. On the new it can stay unless it causes game stutters. Really works great!

Also, some games either have extras if played on new (like Majora's Mask), or are just exclusive to new (like Xenoblade).

    • +1

The 3D on the old one i found only works at certain angles (or "stutters" as you turn). Pretty much turned it off straight away.

The 3D on the new one is smooth throughout the angles it works at. Only loses tracking at the extreme angles or if you hold the 3DS too far.
The new one I was able to leave the slider around halfway.

If you're into 3D effect, get it. It's a serious improvement.
Otherwise no reason to get it unless you want to play n3DS games only

      • It loads games much faster than the old, just turn on Smash for example. It's 10 seconds faster to boot.

    • It's an upgrade in every way to the old 3DS, so yes.

    • Good update where 3d is actually working as you would expect

  • With christmas urgency finished you would think Nintendo wants to move as many units as possible…..thought they would be sending pallets of these to retailers .

  • I'm gonna be really lazy and ask the question: Anyone know stock levels around Adelaide?

    • Im curious on this as well.

    • You didnt happen to be the other ozbargainer who purchased a Metallic Blue from the Woodville HN?

      • I was stuck at work all day, so it wasn't me! How many did they have left? lol

        • 30 minutes before me someone else grabbed the last blue. I grabbed a Black XL, not sure many many were left but they are honouring the discount.

  • Nothing Nintendo at all in Bundall, QLD (Gold Coast)

  • +5

But, I did get JB Hi-Fi in Bundall to price match :)

    • +3

I called all the HN around brisbane, no luck, they can't price match their own stores unless it's online. What did you provide for the price match?

      PS: Lucky bugger ;)

      • I was just really lucky
I showed them the photo the OP provided; they were happy enough to price match

        • -3

Put up the receipt so that the deal can spread!

        • Tried jbhifi gympie road and chermside … No luck

        • +1

          @justtoreply:

Most stores would just not accept this..
and would actually check the HN website

        • @justtoreply:

Notice the imgur link in my post? Might want to click on it ;)

        • @CharcoaI: lol no bragging please … I really wanted one, maybe i'll call bundall and see if I can manage my way to it like you.

        • +1

          @CharcoaI:

Oh, no, I didnt. Cheers mate :)

Was wondering why I got negged. That explains it.

        • @CharcoaI: If it's not too much hassle, could you take another photo with the date please?

    • +1

I tried EB price match in Perth, no joy :(

      • show them charcoals receipt and they have to accept it by their own rules

    • Could you post another picture with the date? Big W will only do it if the date is visible. Thanks

  • Nothing Nintendo in Sydney…

  • So with the emulators when cracked, are they faster than for psp? Wanting a unit for emulators

  • Lol no luck in ViC too, either most shop are out of stock, or those who has it, put up some bullshxt about oh we can't price match with just a photo : (

  • lol these are the same ones I saw on boxing day >.>

  • this isnt a real bargain theyre both still ridiculously overpriced
cash converters were selling the NEW XL version for LESS than a normal NEW small sized one
    http://prntscr.com/9omc1n

    • +2

      1) Second hand you would want it to be $50 cheaper. Which it is.
      2) Great price. I suspect they didn't realise was a new 3ds was (supported by the fact its just a "3ds" on the pricetag).

  • +1

Got bigw to price match. They were happy to do it.

    • how?

their product is not listed on harvey website

      • He or she got quite lucky, the store I work for only price match prices that are on active catalogues and if reasonable online as well.

    • Thanks! I went to big W chermside and just showed the photo, priced match very easily.
