China Southern Transit and Seat Selection

Hi everyone, travelling to japan soon using that deal on china southern from a few months ago.

Just had a couple questions:

How do I check / change my seats? I managed to do so when I first booked the tickets but am struggling to figure out how to now, and after googling a lot still couldn't figure it out. I know china southern has a site for managing this using your third party booking number + your name but it kept redirecting or giving me errors so hoping someone who has done it recently can help. Our plane changed recently so just want to double check we are still sitting together.

Secondly I have a layover in china on both legs of the trip, only a couple hours each. Do we need any kind of visa or forms filled out for this? We are remaining airside the whole time and don't plan to enter china. I've read you have to go through security again but read conflicting info on needing some kind of health form as well.

Thanks! Hoping someone can ease some nerves :)

have you joined the Sky Pearl Club - china southern's membership club? it appears you need to join that to get to seat allocation.

We are remaining airside the whole time and don't plan to enter china.

if you're not leaving the transit/departure are then No visa/form required.

    • I haven't joined, that might be me issue. will try thanks!

And sweet I thought that was the case but wanted a bit more confirmation.

You cannot do web check-in with CSA.
Please go to the airport at least 3 hours before the flight since there is normally a big queue to do check-in and ensure your bags are within the limits as they are very strict with the baggage.
please pay upfront to book your seats as seats to gather is not guaranteed.

Be at the gate an hour before the flight as they close their flight 20 minutes before departure.

You don't need visa if you are in transit but carry all papers for your Japan visa, your ticket, hotel bookings in hard copy ( not mobile app).

There are 2 levels of check-in at Ganzhou airport, one by the CSA team who will verify that you have the proper documents and visa to move to take the next flight. Another will be the local immigration department before security to see that you have valid travel documents like your passport, ticket and earlier team has verified your visa etc.

Shops in Ganzhou airport open after 8 am so if you arrive before that time, airport will be empty and nothing to do. There are few restaurants serving lunch ( in the morning).
Thier duty free shops are cheaper then Australian and you can bring alcohol on to board without any liquid carry issue.

    • Thanks, especially regarding being at airport earlier. Will ensure I am

Also, do not attempt to put batteries/powerbanks in your checked luggage. They are very strict on this.

Was in CAN about 4 months ago. No visa or other documentation needed
Airport is fine but there are no western food outlets in the transit area.
There's one Cafe that takes western cars without issues (pretty much where all foreigners lined up) and a bunch of restaurants that seemed to have limited card options (Cash or WePay/AliPay)
Don't expect to be able to contact home or go on socials, the great firewall was strong. Took about 1.5 of vpn playing to make a call home as I was boarding.
Airport seemed to be really quiet when I was there, so went for a walk around the terminal. Plenty of rows of chairs to nap away from the main gates near the restaurants.
Got a flaky meat pastry from one of the shops which I was a big fan of

If you use overseas sim with roaming the socials work just fine :)

For seat selection, you need to create an account via email and then you can input the PNR and select seats. /';.-

Went through the airport transit last October. If you have a powerbank with no writing on it, they will confiscate it (It was a $5 kmart one so no great loss) Not sure if you will have to do the health declaration anymore but we did it on on phone and they do have limited wifi to help you do it. Agree on the socials being blocked, just have a game on your phone that doesn't need internet access.

No health declaration anymore thank God!

And socials are not blocked if you enable roaming and have roaming data with your OS sim. I bought 6GB with Amaysim and it works sweet.

If you get errors on the site, try using different browser. You should be able to make changes at csair.com site when you log in. Not all browsers work with csair site.
