Kiwi.com Buyer Beware

hi all,

thought to let everyone know that kiwi.com is dodgy website. if you are travelling on budget career, either buy the kiwi.com guarantee or try another provider for better service.

Situation:
my flight got changed by the airlines, I check my pnr (booking reference) directly with airlines and they provided alternate flight. However, kiwi.com asked me to confirm booking using website and instead of allowing to use same airline for return flight, they asked me to do new booking and asked me to book another flight for additional $300+ for return flight. After bit of messages to kiwi.com, I was able to get return flight without further drama. BUT I would recommend to stay away from this website.

being a kiwi myself, it disappointing that these practices we being carried out. Thought to make out community aware.

  • Thought for the day:

    Kiwi are flightless birds.

    • "Kiwi are flightless birds".
      Only in NZ.
Everywhere else they fly as well as any other bird.

  • I've done searches on Kiwi.com before and a lot of their results are on low cost airlines where you have to book separately or they book seperately behind the scenes. It does mean that you have no protection in case flights are delayed, etc and you are left chasing kiwi.com as the agent who made the booking.

    • And also no guarantees of automatic transit for layovers if you book on travel sites because of weird flight combinations (i.e. might have to check out and in again which can be a visa risk). If you book directly from the airline, it is very likely your baggage will go to the next plane on a stopover even if they combine flights using partner carriers (i.e. qantas/emirates).

  • 2nd thought for the day:

Kiwi fruit didn't originate from NZ.

3rd thought of the day - How do you tell its a Kiwi's fridge - the lamb chops have love bites.

      • …and the Pavlova is an import from Australia. lol

I booked a Kiwi last year for my Scandinavian trip. They offered me a ticket on Singapore Airline for half the price if I had booked with Singapore or the Australian website. You need to read their terms and conditions. I was happy with their service since they gave me a valid ticket for a big discount and hence i don't want to say that they are doggy.

Travel agents/booking websites are cheap until they're not.

I had Emirates cancel flights and refund me once, and I had made that booking via an online travel website. I was quoted 12 weeks for my refund, it took just over 20 weeks from memory. I couldn't deal with Emirates directly due to the third party involved. Thankfully that website was Australian so I at least had a phone number I could ring constantly and ask for updates, but if it was Kiwi.com for example it looks like they really don't want you to call them and I can't imagine they're very good in that situation.

Booking directly may have been an extra 1-2 hundred but quite likely would have been a far quicker and easier resolution.
