Didn’t know there was a premium Economics Class. Anyone attended it can give a review?

    • +2

They are NICE. Must try. Better than QF B737 Business

    • +12

You'd need to take economics first, I was confused and had to drop.

    • It's comfortable. Their Premium Economy has a hard shell seat so you recline within your own space. Leg rest rather than just foot rest. 2-3-2 configuration, so less unpleasant in the middle section. Food is better than Economy.

      • +1

Fully agree. Really nice cabins for a day flight. 2-3-2 is also quite special. Singapore Air uses 2-4-2 in their A350s which feels a lot more crowded.

      • +1

That sounds much better than the Qantas PE, even better than the Emirates PE!

    • There's more room, food is better.
You still turn right as you board, Generally the first sections of seats as you board and head to economy.

  • +7

In case anyone else is wondering, these appear to be fifth-freedom flights rather than via Taiwan.

  • +3

    Excellent airline.

Had an absolute bargain with them precovid days when they started flying into AU. $4k in business return to Europe.

    • -2

Extremely cramped seats. Good service. Average food.

      • Its the standard reverse herringbone and meal wise no worse than what CX serves. Not sure how else to get a bigger/wider seat.

      • Totally not true about the seats.
Seat pitch & width of each aircraft among all four airlines flying BNE - AKL:

        Airline Aircraft Class Pitch Width
        Qantas 737-800 Business 37 22
        Economy 30 17.2
        SeatGuru
        Qantas Fleet
Air New Zealand A320 Neo Economy 29-34 17
        SeatGuru
        Air NZ A320neo
Air New Zealand 777-300ER Premium Economy 41-42 20
        Economy 31-35 17.1
        SeatGuru
        Air NZ 777-300
Air New Zealand 787-9 Premium Economy 41-42 19
        Economy 31-33 17.2
        SeatGuru
        Air NZ 787-9
        China Airlines A350-900 Premium Economy 39 20
        Economy 32 18
        SeatGuru
        China Airlines A350

I can vouch myself having flown China Airlines A350s many many times that the cabin not only feels spacious, but the economy seats are definitely not cramped, especially compared to Qantas 737-800 both business and and economy.
A good review in my opinion:

      Your comment is democracy manifest.

  • China Airlines is in my top 3 international carriers. Would definitely recommend.

  • Do they have Business Economic classes?

    • +1

      Yeah that’s MBA.

  • $888, very auspicious.

Good chance that these flights are half empty, but not always. You can check the seat utilisation rate in prior months here: https://www.bitre.gov.au/publications/ongoing/international_…

A great airline IMHO - very underrated.

This is one of several 5th freedom flights from AUS to/from NZ that travellers should be aware of:

China Airlines: Brisbane to Auckland (A350)
    Emirates: Sydney to Christchurch (A380)
    LATAM: Sydney to Auckland (B787)
Batik Air Malaysia: Perth to Auckland (narrow body plane, horrible timing)
China Eastern: Sydney to Auckland (A330, two services per week)

    Discontinued:
    Qatar: Adelaide to Auckland
AirAsia X Malaysia. Sydney to Auckland

    • I guess this is the onward journey for TPE -> BNE -> Auckland?

      • I haven't flown it but it appears so.

Both legs have the same flight numbers CI 53 or CI 54 in the opposite direction.

There's a 2:20 transit in BNE on the way to NZ and a 1:30 on the way to Taiwan.

I'm not sure why a Kiwi would choose this to go to TPE instead of flying direct with Air NZ, must be a bit cheaper.

        • -1

Or pick up mistress / backpacker 'friend' on the way thru to 'holiday'.

Regardless it does mean the plane gets emptied out with passengers in BNE. So should be half empty onwards to Auckland.

FYI. The name of the airline is confusing. It is a Taiwanese airline, not Chinese.
Have flown with them and they are great.

    • +6

cos taiwans official name is the republic of china

      • -5

Unfortunate, the rebels occupying a large part of China.

        • u dont need to bring politics into everythin

    • Taiwanese are Chinese. Surprise!

      • theres defintely no indingenous minority at all… cos its 100% han right

        • +1

There's a very small amount of indigenous Taiwanese left. What people refer to as modern day Taiwanese are just Chinese by dna who committed genocide when they took over the island. It's like Australia and Aboriginals.

      • You just hurt the feelings of a lot of Taiwanese and Hong Kongers

    • Republic of China was defeated by the communists on the mainland around 1949 and it retreated to the taiwan island. Then Kim Il Sung's Korean war distracted the new PRC and saved RoC to retain the island.

      • +1

So Taiwanese are actually Koreans 🤔

        • When PRC was dragged by Kim Il Sung into the Korean war, the US placed its 7th fleet to the taiwan strait and blocked the PRC ambition towards the taiwan islands.
Before the Korean war the US force wasn't to get involved in the Chinese civil war.

          • @Al123: Ah yes Modern “History”.

Look back a bit further millennia and it’s the Koreans pushing out the indigenous people in Japan ,

            or

Chinese and New Guinea dna becoming Polynesian people and found all the way to the Amazon .

  • Cattle class is getting worst when an economy flight is advertising with hot meal. Next will be cold meal and standing seat.

    • Sashimi bar?
