Best Bike for Peloton App for Home Cycling

My wife and I are looking at home cycling and potentially getting a Peloton. We have had a cheaper stationary bike for a while that hasn’t got her into it. From what I hear iFit and other apps are just not good enough with slow startup etc. so I was looking at Peloton.

Has anyone got a good set up using a different bike and a Peloton app on an iPhone/ipad? Wondering if there is a cheaper option. Or experience with the refurbished Peloton bike?

  • Grays Fitness are authorised 2nd hand resellers. If both you and your wife are users, it works out to about a dollar a day for the membership.

    • Yeah I had thought the app was cheaper but now I see it is only 1 user per app but the bike can have multiple users.

  • I use the LSG Spg-220. Not magnetic resistance and doesn’t come with a bottle holder. When I bought it the seller included a phone holder. I added an iPad holder I got off Amazon. I’ve used this set up for 2 years now. It works and I can’t find a good reason to upgrade yet.

Curious to know what makes you think a Peloton will change that?

when you pay more, you care more

    • I have friends who have really gotten into the Peloton classes. The cheaper one is also a bit rickety and she hasn't felt comfy on it.

the seat isn't suppose to be "comfortable". you just get used to it after some time.

  • peloton doesn't allow you to connect to third party bikes. you would just have to follow and try to match the target metrics.

they do let you connect to third party treadmills and rowers though.

FWIW, there's a 30 day home trial if you want to see if your wife can even make it to 30 days.

    • Yeah was thinking about that.

Cop a used road bike off marketplace and a Wahoo kickr Core and hop on Zwift. Far superior to peloton in every way

    • zwift isn't spin class

Cheapest option is to buy a bike and go ride it outside.

    • it's cheap but not winter friendly, if you know what I mean :)

      • I know what you mean, but personally i hate exercising while being stuck inside.

        • Get a VR and you'll be 'outside' lol
