I jumped on at this price as I think the chances of securing the LGC3 around this price are low, and the other monitors will get nowhere near this in price within 3-6 months if you ask me.
The curve is a turn-off yes, (mainly as I have a flat second screen) but we'll see. I might ditch my second monitor.
Problem is now I have to spring for a 4080Sup or up to power it…

      • LGC3

This monitor would be better than the LG C3 or C2, despite the curve. TVs have the OLED automatic brightness limiter and lack of built-in auto-sleep which can be annoying, so it's always nicer to get a proper gaming monitor if possible. The 240Hz refresh is also a big plus over the 120Hz of TVs.

I like my LG C2 for PC gaming, but I would have preferred a proper OLED gaming monitor at around the same price.

      • So you're saying a 4070ti Super couldnt handle this?..?

        • All depends on what you're trying to do. Cyberpunk 2077 - unlikely. CS Go… sure

    • +6

At this size I'd want it to be curved personally

      • +3

I've watched/read lots of reviews on this monitor and people that weren't keen on curved displays generally say it's a non issue mostly due to the subtleness of it. Apparently the curve helps to make reflections less noticable too

    • Hopefully the flat 32” versions get discounted at some point. I can’t use curved monitors either.

  • Although 240Hz 4K OLED monitors are very appealing now, the prices have not yet stabilized. By the end of this year, a large number of OLED panels from BOE and CSOT will hit the market, and we will see a price war similar to last year's SSDs

    • +6

I'm guessing the upcoming price war will mean they hit exactly around this mark ~$1400 or so. Retail is about $2k…

Still, its at least 6 months off if you ask me.

      • +1

Fine by me. I think i would rather spend more money on the GPU upgrade so the 6 month wait time just puts us closer to the 5080/90. I don't think my 3080 would push this monitor very well and I'm not that inclined to upgrade to the 40 series, would much rather wait.

        • +1

          Fair enough.

Let's come back in 6-12 months and see what the price is at. I think this will still be the all time low, or within 5-10%. All those other monitors will be more $$$.

I'd rather have it now, even without the proper GPU to play games fast. And yep, when 50 series comes out I will likely upgrade.

    • Are they making TV panel as well or just monitor? I'm waiting for 42 inch OLED to go below 1k.

      • +3

        I think you'll be waiting until 2025.

I can't recall where, but I have vague memory of industry scuttlebutt discussion that they are phasing out the 42" sizes of OLED TV's… but I might be pulling that out of thin air. I think they don't sell what they were hoping for, and being that monitors are now fulfilling the OLED space around that size, sales will be further reduced.

        • I recall that 55" OLED TV panels are the most efficient panel size that can be divided from an OLED sheet in production. When they cut a larger panel size from the sheet, it supposedly gives them an odd number of small and large panel sizes that are either not widely popular due to smaller size (e.g. 32") or a size that is not so price competitive against a 55" in the market.

That said, 42" is perhaps well suited for businesses that need something larger and more readable than a 32" monitor to put up on the wall or in a window front, but also something light enough to be easily mounted.

    • Anyone has any ideas on the possibility of the price of this monitor getting even lower in the incoming EOFY sales? I mean EOFY is only 5-6 weeks away, if the price can get even lower then it'll be worth the wait?

      • Hmm I would be surprised if it was significantly lower price. If anything I would expect more expensive

        • Decided to just give it a try. But I just noticed Dell has launched its official EOFY webpage already. So I suspect this price will be the best price even if there's an incoming EOFY sales.

  • Coupon code returns "Already redeemed" error.

  • -2

Good deal, but I need a 5090 to drive 4k.

    • Only if you’re obsessed with having your sliders at ultra (bet you can’t tell the difference in gameplay to a notch or two lower), refuse to use DLSS or think 120fps is the minimum.

My 3080 drives my 4k tv @ 60fps just fine.

      • +1

DLSS means Actual rendering resolution reduced.
I use 3080, too, not expecting stable in 4k 60 with my game library. But glad that you enjoy yours.

        • Sure but if you can’t tell the difference who cares? Most of the time DLSS looks better than native + taa because you lose less fine detail

          • @get-innocuous: That's why I said depends on the game you play, in specific open world or battle royale games, due to the optimization, it means life or death.
It doesn't mean that I need to stare at the screen from pixel to pixel and nitpick all the time.

        • +3

Um, yes. but you'd turn on DLSS if you can't get the FPS you want at 4K 'raw'.
You know DLSS boosts it to 4K so it's actually 'rendered' to the monitor at 4K right?
DLSS at 1440p up to 4k will be better than 1440p native/raw/upscaled, visually.

          • @Thiefsie: Through the pre-trained AI model, DLSS technology allows users to render a lower-resolution image and upsample it to a set high resolution by combining a deep learning neural network model, thereby increasing the game frame rate by reducing the hard load on the graphics card. This allows the game to run more smoothly while ensuring the user's screen experience.
So nope. DLSS Quality mode might cover 80% of native 4K contents. It should be better than standard 2K, but in gaming especially high demanding ones like Cyberpunk or Warzone, framerate needs to be higher.

            • +3

@BitcoinKing: Not sure what your point is but okay. You do you.

              *DLSS isn't pre-trained anymore
DLSS3+ also does framegen if you have 40+ cards (which it appears we don't).

  • +1

    @Muzeeb any better deal mate?

    • +26

I'm currently on vacation in Bora Bora so very unlikely.

  • What's the story behind the screen burn in? Is it a thing with QD-OLED?

    Deal looks good.

    • +2

It's an inherent issue with all OLED panels. It remains to be seen whether QD-OLED is better or worse.

      • People keep saying this but I've heard from anyone that's actually had it with newer models.

        • +2

That’s because they’re still new and haven’t been used enough yet to burn in, most people get it around the 4 year mark (conveniently 1 year after all the OLED burn in warranties end)

    • +3

It's a slight risk with any OLED.

Dell have a 3yr warranty specifically to cover this. From the webpage:

3-Year Advanced Exchange Service and Premium Panel Exchange (Including coverage for OLED burn in)

Otherwise auto-hide your taskbar, use dark-mode, setup a black or moving wallpaper, set your screensaver to be aggressive and to turn off the monitor relatively fast.

If you only play one game constantly, you might be be concerned by the HUD otherwise all good.

Thinking about this, alternatively do nothing of the above and push it as much as you can so that any burn-in is sure to occur within 3 years and then you are good to claim…?!

Dell support is great in my experience, but I wonder if there is a subjective factor to how bad the burn-in might be before they consider a return???

      • Cheers, didn't know it was common for all oleds, appreciate learning something new.

        • These 32" 4k models all use the new 3rd generation panel from Samsung with a hardware A.I burn-in maintenance routine and the backlights are slightly more power efficient to deliver the same brightness, increasing longevity. They claim the A.I chip gives 2x longevity of the panel compared to Gen 2.

As far as I saw in my own research, I couldn't find any detailed reports of OLED burn in from people who had used their monitor for 3000-5000 hours (as reported by the monitor OS) on 2nd generation panels or similar panels from LG.

If you are using the monitor in a dynamic way (not displaying a static image all day or turning off the care features - 'abusing the warranty') then you don't need to worry. Some brands even have image recognition for static parts of the display that dims the pixels of unchanging logos or U.I elements in games etc. I don't think the Dell has that (explicitly) but it is probably part of the generic hardware A.I chip included by Samsung anyway - based on what they have described - and maybe Dell is just ignorant about advertising it or hasn't made the time to integrate its functions fully with their own display software/firmware.

          • @Maker1: I have read that it does have logo detection always on, resulting in lower peak nits, but this can be turned off by switching to "creator mode"

      • They all (should) have explicit burn-in definitions described in their policies so you can check the other brands using the same 32" Samsung panel because as far as I can see, Dell doesn't give a definition publicly. That said, it's normally something like a 3-5% reduction in brightness of a certain area % of pixels at a certain brightness on a neutral colour. These monitors come with a 17-segment brightness report and funnily enough, mine already had several segments with below 99-100% average brightness. That's different to image retention, of course. :)

  • Purchased one, thank you!

  • "STOP!" ~ JonTron. In all seriousness though, I'm just not ready for a 4k screen yet, but boy is it tempting. Does anyone know if they're still being shitty by not applying a film to further protect the screen during shipping?

    • +4

The order I received last week had a protective peel and was in perfect condition. But people who ordered at launch weren't so lucky.

I assume all stock fulfilled from this point onwards gets the peel, but no guarantees obv.

  • is that with education discount?

  • Wish they did a flat version of this.

    • +1

Some other brands use a flat version of the same panel. This is by far the cheapest for whatever reason, the curve is minimal.

      • +2

Yeah, I’ve seen the MSI models around, but I think I’d get my OzB account taken away if I paid an extra ~$700 for a non-curved version of the same panel

        • MSI has much cheaper overseas pricing while Dell is almost 1:1 with exchange rate compared to their U.S store. I think the MSI is actually one of the cheapest versions of this panel and at least some of their newer models will not receive any firmware updates or fixes even if the firmware is faulty. That alone is a huge red flag.

  • -1

Was very tempted by one of these a few times, it’s a shame in SDR it’s so dim.

    https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/alienware-aw3225…

    • +7

i lowered my SDR brightness because it was too bright lol

      • +1

Legit my screen's calibrated to 120nit (since I do photo editing) and it looks perfectly fine during the day (and very bright in a dimly lit room); I understand that everyone's use case is different but personally I don't know why you want to be looking at searing bright screen all day.

    • -1

It's brighter than my LG C2, and that is not dim. It's fine as long as you're not using it in a room with all the blinds open and the sun shining directly in.

  • +1

Got one, think I'm set for the next 5-10 years!

    • OLED monitor and 10 years is doubtful. Lets make it to 5 and see what happens.

  • Bargain, bought 10

  • Is it true it only covers a burn in replacement once?!

    • +2

That's not correct. Even if that is what the policy says, that practice would be in breach of Australian Consumer Law. Their actual warranty is unlimited replacements up to 3 years from your original purchase date and you may receive refurbished/repaired units that may not actually be brand new. But if they have panel issues later too or they arrive with damage from the previous owner then they should replace it (and as per the law, they must).

They should not be sending refurbished/repaired replacements when the product has a major fault that cannot be repaired (or within reasonable time) such as a total panel failure, however they do this anyway.

Instead, the best thing to do is ask for a total refund and then simply buy it again if it is on sale for the same or better price. Then you can guarantee that you receive a factory new product.

  • I'd recommend this to anyone looking at an esports career. Or just browsing ozbargain with inky blacks and 4k resolution at a buttery refresh rate… that was bad don't sue me for cringe harassment.

  • +1

Spending this much, be ready to atleast have a 4070Ti/7900XT or above. Ideally 7900XTX/4080/4090.

    • +4

i like seeing excel sheets in 240hz 4k

      • You are a rich accountant.

  • LG 48-inch UltraGear 4K 120Hz OLED Gaming Monitor $1498

  • Standard Cashback rate is 1.5% for Dell monitors through Cashrewards, ShopBack and TopCashback ($21 in this case.)

    • Pretty sure most cashbacks exclude Alienware monitors

      • Hmm could be, though from I could see the Alienware monitors were just excluded from the higher bonus that applies to other Alienware parts. I'd be surprised if they're exempt to the standard monitor cashback too.

      • +2

Would have thought same, that that excludes you from the 12%, not the 1.5. Not sure what has happened in the past but the Special terms says - Cashback is ineligible on the following: Use of any codes not listed on Cashrewards

        • +1

Yeah, I mean might get lucky and track 1.5%. I never have a lot of faith in the cashback tracking, but am happy when it does

    • Use Rakuten, it's 4% for Dell monitors. Or purchase from JB-HiFi (delivery mid May) and pay with a Cashrewards (or other) JB-HiFi gift-card and the cashback should be around 3% but it cannot be any other type of generic gift card or visa according to JB support.

      • Anyone know if Rakuten will work or have used it before, their site says that Dell "Cash Back is only available on US orders placed on the Dell Technologies US site."

  • Set mine up yesterday, and in the process of getting dell to price match.

Mixed first impression, not enjoying the 16:9 coming from an UW. While somethings look amazing (running helldivers in hdr), in other things it can look really bad, like viewing on twitch.

    • Its not an ultrawide. its just curved

      • They said “coming from UW” - describing their previous monitor

        • that makes more sense.

          • @Maddsyz27: My ultrawide was curved, no issues with the curve. I liked the curve from day one

            • @thesainter: yeah, sorry, I thought you were talking about a 16:9 UW. why I was confused

  • I’m not buying until they release a 4k wewwwwwwwwwwwwwwqhd version

  • +1

Just clarifying the 3Y Basic Hardware Service with Advanced Exchange after remote diagnosis is just fine. No need for the Pro Support. Guessing its just unnessasary upcharge

    • +1

Given the protections under the Australian Consumer Law, I think it's unnecessary to buy any additional coverage

      • -1

well ACL only covers you for 1 year, and for major faults. One day over 1 year, dell could just call everything wear and tear. but yes pro support doesn't seem necassary

        • +3

ACL would definitely cover you for more than a year with a purchase of this cost.

Previous precedent they set was the expected lifetime for a $2k TV was 7 years

        • There are no explicit time limits or constraints on failures for products under the ACL; not sure where you’ve derived a flat 1 year protection from.

          • @AlexMX: idk now, i was always told that acl only covers major faults and 1 year for anything else. not sure where my info came from, probably 15 years ago I was told it. probably old policy or something. Good to see new laws are coming in handy

    • Hey mate does the basic warranty also includes burn in?

      • +1

Dell states that it does include burn in but the catch is they often try to provide refurb models if you claim under their warranty.

If this ever happens push for a NEW replacement and argue your rights under the ACL that supersede any explicit warranties that Dell offer

  • Anything in the 34-36” range full 4k?

    • +1

No, at least not in Samsung QD-OLED specifically. This is a brand new printing process that finally enables 4K at 32". Maybe they will come next year or maybe not. :)

      • Cheers, any other brands?

  • do we get the 7 year warranty through asutralia consumer law through this one? ALSO I HAVE STUDENT CODE IF ANYONE WANTS PM me!

    • Pmed.

      • im not seeing it and i cant msg you

  • Anyone got a spare student code. Please ignore this, all sorted now.

  • Ordered! Thanks, previously had the 34" DWF, seems as though this new gen looks better for text. Doubt it will get this cheap for quite some time.

  • If anyone has a spare coupon code, I'd love one. Thanks in advance.

  • Anyone have a spare coupon code? Keen to upgrade from my 720p TN panel monitor.

  • If anyone has a spare 7% code they don’t plan on using I would love to have it if you could PM me.

    Thanks 🙂
