It's so kind of them to let the locals get in & out of their business and homes without having to pay.

Nice, we all subsidise this and those in the most affluent areas get freebies.

Thanks for another one Dic. Dan.

All the people who didn't vote for him?
Seems to exclude most of the affluent suburbs in Melbourne.

      • which are the effluent suburbs that are excluded ?

Mate I'm a local and far from affluent…A free ticket on a Thursday doesn't come close to making up for the bullcarp Ive got to put up with due to this stupid race. It's not just one weekend, it's 2 months of works.

  • or a utility bill

    Photoshop 😉

    • ha yeah they wont double check its only like $20 to get in on a Thursday anyway its usually pretty empty

Its compensation for putting up with the disruption and noise. They been doing it for years it has nothing to do with Dan

Funny a mate lived at Surfers when Indy cars were there. The organisers demanded to be able to charge local residents inside the track an entrance fee because they are able to watch the race from their balconies. Luckily significant numbers of residents and councilors kicked up a stink.

The organisers of these events get paid by govts to host it, paid by advertisers to have signage, paid for broadcast rights and paid by the crowds to watch. It's a nice little earner for them.

ha yeah i can understand why that didnt fly. As great as it is for motorsport fans its pretty miserable time for those who are not lol

yep, the grass under the stands and high foot traffic areas dies and takes about 6 mths to grow back as we head into autumn ….. lots of businesses close due to noise, and Sth Melb market trade is down …. so free tickets for locals on a thursday is better than empty seats when they televise highlights …..

In the past you can use MSAC (aquatic centre) and pay for a swim …. great view from the outdoor pool seating area , easy tram access

Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) remains open throughout the Grand Prix Race Period. Access and car parking for MSAC during the Grand Prix Race Period between Tuesday, 28 March to Monday, 3 April, will be via the multi-deck car park with entry and exit only from the Albert Road and Cecil Street intersection.

This isn't compensation, general access is the bare minimum. How else would they access their homes? Compensation would be providing them with grandstand tickets, putting up more soundproofing material or a token of appreciation for the noise/disruption/inconvenience etc
