Was available recently for $1,473.30 as part of the below deal. Still not a bad price, but not cheapest ever.

  • Does goodguys price match amazon

    • +2

They dont officially, but I’ve had luck "walking away" and having them price match anyway.

      • I don’t get why this trick always works. I mean of course we not gonna buy it if they don’t price match. Waste of everyone’s time. I usually just say I’ll just buy it elsewhere then they end up price matching

        • It's because you have a face to talk to when something goes wrong, yes Amazon has good service, but it's not face to face. It's easier for me to buy from a store. If something goes wrong with the phone/product then you have two options. I can go to store or apple. Rather than only one option, Amazon. Also if store doesn't do anything you can go to ACCC, which Amazon it's tougher process specially because you're not in their face in person.

Tough world, but retail staff get abused despite being customers fault :p

      • As a guy who used to work there, it normally depends on manager( store manager), and they need to reach tougher budget on certain days they may price match. If you go at a busy time, you might get away due to the rush Or go on a very dead day, and it's a quick target to their budget for managers.

Possibly higher chances with store that are far away because they have lesser customer coming in on odd days and desperate for sales at times. Or if you also tell them you'll get add-ons such as "Telstra and gas" and some states electricity, they'll be more willing.

Good price, even this late in the cycle!

  • is 15 pro worthwhile to upgrade from iPhone 13 mini or 13 pro for a non-heavy/ non-power/ non-game user you reckon?

    • +6

$1520 for your phone to take a fraction of a second less to do things here and there, and slight improvements all round. Only you can decide, probably shouldn't be getting Pro models to begin with if you're not a power user.

I only upgrade phones every 2 years for tax reasons, otherwise the technological improvements aren't nearly worth it.

      • +13

Never understood this reasoning : you still would have more cash on hand if you didn’t tax deduct

        • +1

Yeah just an excuse to buy a new "thing" for some people. Still much better off if you didn't.

        • If you salary sacrifice rather than just tax deduct - it’s worth it as you reduce your tax paid. And then by selling your old phone it ends up being free usually. If you didn’t buy the phone you would still be out of pocket by paying tax. So choice between paying tax or paying for a phone.

          • +1

@illusion99: Wouldn't it be the same net effect?

            • +1

@kiitos: You can’t tax deduct the full total cost at once if it’s over $300 but you can salary sacrifice the full amount at once if you salary sacrifice

        • +1

I need a phone and a laptop for work, so at some interval I must eventually purchase replacements for both. Apple products retain value very well, so selling after 2 years I am able to make back nearly all of my out of pocket expenses as e.g. Macbooks tend to lose 35-40% of their value over 2 years on the 2nd hand market. This way I keep my products up to date, which is important in my line of work, and I don't have a difficult time selling old devices with cooked batteries when the time eventually comes

        • +3

Regarding tax deductions, Apple gear is special in that the resale value is fantastic.

I find that each year/second year that I upgrade, it’s basically free because the resale value, plus the tax deduction or salary sacrifice, covers the cost of the new phone.

technically your resale income is assessable income as far as the ATO is concerned. I’d guess that nobody declares does that though….

      • +1

iPhones only comes with incremental changes, all high end smartphone makers make a big deal about faster processor that is like a second or two faster then previous generation is not worth it.

    • +1

Screen, camera and battery. I’ve got a 13 mini from launch and these would be the three factors I’d consider. As it stands I don’t think it’s worth the cost of upgrading as I’m curious what the next gen of iPhones will do with AI.

      • +1

been rocking a new 13 mini since Feb last year (prior had a 6s and 1st SE). I didn’t see the need to upgrade until a phone usually breaks or starts to appear old…or im bugged to do so.

I’ve been put off by the larger sized iPhones for a long time now but that stance seems to have relaxed a little….The larger screen can be easier for typing emails…

Nothing beats a small iPhone that’s disappears in your pocket….Would have been nice to have an option for iPhone 15 mini or even a pro-mini. Hopefully we see at least an SE that’s shaped like a mini for options sake.

        • +1

Same boat. Love my 13 mini but could seriously use a larger screen from time to time.

        • +1

I absolutely cannot stand using the ones with the small screens anymore. Would be awesome if they could have big screens and fold in half though.

        • +2

yea I've really enjoyed the small form factor but my battery health is ~65 and it's struggling to last the whole day now. I do have multiple opportunities to charge (drive to and from work) but I suspect when it gets closer to ~50 health I'll be looking for another phone with a larger battery.

      • +1

love the 13 mini, i've honestly found it to be the perfect phone size

    • +1

nope, you would just need a regular iPhone. nothing wrong with the 13. you really won't see much of a difference going to a 15, maybe 16 would give you more.

you wouldn't need a pro unless you post a lot on social media. everyone is trying to become a social media star, lol.

      • +1

USB-C is so convenient though. My 13 mini is the only device that doesn't use USB-C and it's so annoying for me that I've just got Magsafe accessories to charge my phone everywhere (bedroom, living room, car, etc.). I agree withy our point on Pro, but the higher refresh rate is nice.

  • cheapppppp

    • +9

Cheaper than normal, maybe but 'cheap'? Nahhh

  • +1

Why are there so many sales on for the iPhone 15s? Is there something about the iPhones 16s we don’t know about?

    • +2

      I’ve noticed that too.

Maybe 15’s don’t sell quick enough or folks are tired of iPhones? It has generally the samey form factor/ function/ experience for a long time now.

    • +2

"Apple earnings see 10% iPhone sales drop"

Reported on various news outlets. So likely this.

    • I have 13 Pro and I see no point upgrading. Their problem is products are too good, good problem to have though :)
I have screen scratches and have AppleCare+. They refuse to replace screen, "cosmetic issues are excluded", but cracking screen myself is beyond my resolve :)

    • not much of an upgrade over the 14, the 16 should be really good.

  • The 128GB version is nerfed in terms of ProRes video (not available below 256GB) but that's not necessarily a problem unless you intend to use that feature.

    • +1

it would be pointless to get a pro if you don't have it. you mine as well just buy a regular 15 which is still an awesome phone.

    • +1

You can use usb-c drive and record prores

    • So the 128gb does not have prores video? That s a shame 😔

Edit : prores video is available in 128gb but only 1080, 4k will need external storage

      https://www.macrumors.com/2023/09/18/iphone-15-pro-128gb-pro…

    • +3

Honestly if you’re not a content creator do you really need ProRes? Normal 4K video should suffice for everyday use

      • agreed, making the regular iPhone good enough for most, but get pro more to be cool and accepted because most won't use the features. its like having a race car and only driving it at 5 km/h, you are not maximising its full potential.

  • +6

    128g in 2024 is taking the p@#s

    • There is a1tb version

    • I had an iPhone 13 Pro 128gb, had to constantly delete apps as most apps are storage hungry.

  • +1

If you have a 13 or 14 series just wait for the 16 series. So either you can get the 15 series cheaper or just buy the 16 series

  • Is the Officeworks website not working for anyone else (for the price beat)?

    • Can you do a OW price beat on their website?

      • +1

Nvm, had my vpn set to turkey for Netflix gift cards… works now haha

      • I thought you had to call too…

  • I had JB HIFI price match Amazon for the 256gb version so that I could use discounted gift cards.

  • Costco also same price - for all colours too.

  • IS this special still valid? Looking on amazon it doesn't seem so?
