  I found Alamo to be pretty cheap, and great service. Alamo are owned by Enterprise but seem to have better deals.
  The pick-up/drop-off process is the best I've used, you just go out to the car park and jump in any car in your category and just drive out with it.
  Drop-off involves getting out of your car, giving keys to the valet waiting for you and walking off. You can't ask for better service than that.

  Not sure if it will work for you due to being different circumstances, but I got a really good deal in Florida with Hertz by going to Kayak.com and doing a search for what I wanted there. Their system is pretty good at doing the hard work of working out the cheapest nearby locations, etc.

  Then once I worked out the option which worked for me, I clicked through to Hertz and could see the discount code Kayak had applied. Then I went direct to Hertz and used that code, as I prefer a direct booking and could use my status benefits with Hertz.

  Otherwise Economycarrentals.com has usually been pretty good for me.
