This is similar in form to the gen5detect. I returned mine in favour of the V12 Slim (same green light optic roller head). The gen5detect would hurt my wrist and was too big.

V12 Slim has a smaller canister but is so much lighter.

$899 for v12 Slim absolute on the Dyson website. Maybe the DYSEXTRA5 code will work on that too

Interesting. I was thinking of going from the V12 Slim to the V15 Detect.

The canister in the V12 is just so small. The canister is noticeably worse than the V7.

My wife and I prefer to empty the canister frequently. The gen5detect was killing our wrists 😂

  • OOS, just missed it

  • bought this recently for $939. Coming from broken v10, v15 is definitely a big improvement. Would recommend.

    • How can a V10 be 'broken' already?

      • bought it 2018 and used heavily but mainly the trigger snapped and couldn't fix it. Tried one of those cheapie amazon ones which died after one use so decided to be loyal to Dyson and bought this.

          Cheers for reporting back.
Might have been the switch it was activating since another one broke. Pretty sad that a plastic button brought the whole thing down. But good to know. Thanks.
*Just an FYI..a soldering iron makes a really good plastic welder..melt some staples in the plastic for extra strength.

          • @tunzafun001: Yeah quick search will show its common issue with dyson stick vacuums so i did try to fix it by ordering the trigger part from amazon but to replace you need to break apart the whole freakin thing which i managed to do after huge struggle but thing just didn't power on when reassembled. probably i broke something else lol.

        • That V10 motor and the whole rest of it is still working, maybe give it to me :3

  • OOS again, just as I tried to activate Cashback.

  • Sorry if this is a dumb question, but would JB HiFi price match?

    • Generally if out of stock they don’t. Depends on the person you talk to. They also don’t match voucher codes.

  • Bought v11 for 779 2 weeks ago. Thinking of return it and buy this one

    Don't support this mob.

They have purposely not connected the cell balancing in their battery packs. Even though the hardware is there (in prior models to this, now there is just pads where the hardware should be), they haven't connected it. This means the battery will die prematurity… even though it's perfectly fine, just out of balance. Normally an easy fix, but they also added an eeprom to stop people fixing it. Forcing a perfectly fine battery to be discarded

I'm hoping a multi Billion $+ lawsuit heads their way.

This leads to premature life / landfill. Just scum.

Feel free to harness the cells out of the pack. They are 99% of the time fully functional when people throw them out.

    • Who should we support instead?

      • I just look at the design, not the model..

For example, the old Dyson sucked from just one side of the brush head… absolutely ridiculous.
Then they used suction to drive the brush head.
Then there is the mesh filter in the V7 days that would clog in no time.
Then they have non balancing battery packs.

LG, Aldi, Kmart, Xiaomi, Vax and even Kogan have superior designs in my opinion.

If you want to save on a gym membership. Get a Kirby. They are Sherman tanks, and nothing will clean better and you don't need to empty the things for months. Absolute bargain second hand. We use ours after the kids toy vac (Hard rubbish recovered Dyson) has been used for a couple of weeks. Massive difference in cleaning ability.

Are you referring to any Kogan model in particular? They have dozens

I've got the Samsung Bespoke with a clean station and couldn't go back. 'a vacuum for a vacuum so pointless' - as someone who hates going to the red bin and having a cloud dust in my face its a big difference from going 1-2 weekly to emptying the bag every 4-6 months.

Came with 2 batteries but I've only used 1 and the battery life is no different from when I first used it. Suction is fine, but I guess i don't have a multitude of vacuums at home to compare against.

    • I'm interested! it's one of the features I love about my robot vac- almost never need to touch it except to cut some hairs off the roller every once in a while and check the air filters. Maybe every 4 months or so.

      • I have a robot vac but can't use it as too much kids toys around 😂 I was being a cheapo and manually emptied the dustbag (I don't vacuum bugs) and the bag still held up after 2 years. I finally threw the first one away when I looked up Lazada and they were about $1 a bag lol

      • I've had (and still have, just stopped using it) 1st gen Clean Station (before it was redesigned into one piece with the stand), paid $100 for it (an extra option bundled with vacuum). It did sound like a good idea, but the implementation was very poor. First of all, the exhaust filters didn't work. Every time you emptied the canister into the station, it would produce a smelly cloud of dust. This problem would be getting worse and worse with each emptying - the fuller is the bag, the more dust is thrown out of station. I've cleaned and replaced filters, it didn't help. So I had to discard the bags when they were half full, what a waste. The second issue is the canister. Clean Station requires special canister with the hinged bottom, it's not compatible with the normal canister that is shipped with the vac. So you get one station and one canister with it. It's made of quite brittle plastic, so about a year after purchase a crack started forming in the top, where the canister is locking to the vac. So I had to use the other canister which was not compatible with the station. And the hinged canister is not sold separately - maybe somewhere in Korea or in parallel universe, but I couldn't find it. Samsung is selling some consumables, but buying the parts for your vacuum to replace the worn-out parts is a bit of a challenge. Dyson is better in this regard, especially with cheap 3rd party parts available. Overall, Samsung's vac is better in some aspects, and Dyson is better in some other aspects, they both are pretty close in performance, suction power etc.

        • To be fair, I think the new one seems to address all these. I've not had any dust seepage when i click it, and all I need to do is slide my bag in/out when I change it. I haven't noticed any other filters in it.
