This trackball is definitely large. I found it works well, however I needed to clean the ball frequently to keep the motion really smooth. It still worked fine without the regular cleaning, just not as nice to use. I recall reading there may have been another ball one can purchase to replace the original ball with.

There's limited trackballs on the market where your index and middle finger is used to move the ball. Logitech used to make a good one. I use a trackball as a normal mouse can aggravate my wrist.

Haven't tried the vertical mouse, as I also do like the trackball remaining stationary on the desk

    • Trackballs are really good if you have limited space for mouse movement as well. It is apparently good for your wrist as well as you just move the pointer with your fingers like others have said.

    • Autocad!

Off memory that one is a fair bit smaller for the ball. It's a single fingertip operation instead of multi-finger.

  • Exact model is still available on AU store for $55. Just google elecom mouse

Logitech trackball mice have small ball bearings to aid the smoothness of the trackball, the elecom just have little plastic nibs so not as smooth. Making small adjustments delicately is ever slightly harder to do on the elecom. I have tried both index finger and thumb operated styles. I use them for work and they really help with repetitive strain injury in my wrist, plus watching someone else try to use them is hilarious.

    • I would be so happy if Logitech would make a copy of the Kensington Pro. The KP scroll wheel has a tendency to fail as soon as the warranty period expires.

      • switches in Kensington also die quickly too, i bought replacement switches from aliexpress

    • My Logitech trackball has plastic nibs, not bearings.

      • What model? All mine have had bearings.

        • M570 I think 👍 But the plastic nibs are absolutely fine, the movement is smooth.

  • Hesitant as I love the scroll wheel around the ball design on Kensington models.

    • It's truly awesome for as long as it works but once it breaks it cripples the mouse if you've come to rely on it.

      • hence i need a backup… hence buy now and think later? LOL

I had one of these. It… sucked. Really bad bearings made it unpleasant to use, and the microswitches are inconsistent- off memory some are clicky and some are mushy. Very surprising for a Japanese product.

There is a fairly simple workaround to the first problem- buy ceramic bearings from a third party.

    I ditched mine.

If you want a very high quality, very large trackball (you can use a pool or a snooker ball as a replacement) then look here: https://xkeys.com/products/trackballs.html

You'll pay through the nose for one, but they are the highest quality trackballs I've ever come across.

    • GD those x-keys trackballs look good. Just a shame there's no wireless version :'(

      • They are massive peripherals, not portable. So there's not much point to wireless there.

I don't mind carting certain massive peripherals around if it makes my life functionally easier at the other end. The absence of wireless isn't a deal-breaker so I've added the xbe-12 and some spacer keys to my wishlist.
