Serious question, and yes I know the differences, this or drop $4k more and get a LG C4 83"? Is it really $4k better?

    • +3

Say an TCL C845 85" goes for $2366 (if you can get stock) and the LG C3 83" is 4972 (since the C4 is not out and the C3 listed lowest OzBargain price).

Both TVs are used for about 5hrs a day for five years for about $3576 for the TCL and $1795 for the LG in electricity costs.

That's $5942 for the TCL and $6767 for the LG or roughly 14% for some sweet, sweet OLED.

This is an extremely compelling argument. I've got the 83" C4 on preorder. This sells it for me. Thanks @BlueGlowOne

        Not a real world application..

        Or at least misleading

Based on maximum power usage and 55c a kwh

      • +1

The TCL isn't nearly as hungry as it's energy rating suggests, if you take 5 minutes to adjust the picture OOTB (which is absolutely worth doing to mitigate known issues and garish colours).

      • 5hrs a day for five years

Sounds a bit high to be representative. How much MAFS can you watch…

    • Where on earth did you find the 83" C4 for $6366?

      • +3

Actually $6100 with a $300 GC from LG edu.

          Crazy price, good find.

  • How does this compare to Hisense 85" mini-LED? HN is selling as upsize deal, making it $1,996.
    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/hisense-75-inch-u7kau-4k-ule…

Looks very similar when I compared on JB website, TCL has wi-fi 6 and Hisense has wi-fi 5. Other minor differences, if JB matches price with HN, then price difference between these 2 models will be $400 which is significant.

Hisense manufacture IPS panels, avoid like plague.

      • +2

we have the 75UK7..it's IPS and no complaints here. Brightness and viewing angles are great, 384 dimming zones isnt amazing but blacks at night look great vs our old Samsung entry level 65"

        • 120hz 4k support on ps5 is great!
        • Interesting. I don't think I've ever come across an IPS that looked acceptable in a dark environment. Maybe I'm too nitpicky.

@1r4n14n: Same, until you see mini-LED with local dimming zones, blows my QLED samsung with really deep blacks at night

            • @Mortgagetightass: There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that a Mini LED backlight would help mitigate IPS glow but wow, I didn’t know it was that good.

              • +1

@1r4n14n: This was in the dark last night with lights offIt's no joke, honestly about 70-80% as good as OLED.

                • +1

@Mortgagetightass: Far out, that’s actually impressive. Especially considering a camera over-exposes blooming.

                  • +1

@1r4n14n: yep, again this is brightness @ 50 and contrast @ 80. If you turn up the brightness about 70, you get really shitty blooming etc. But its 350+ nits at this level, plenty for a glaring lounge during the day.

I believe the 85" is VA… so it would be even better.

                    • +1

@Mortgagetightass: I just had a look at LG's QNED models for comparison and yep, low and behold, blooming is nowhere near a problem as it was in the past. About time I stopped grouping all IPS panels in the one basket then. I knew there was an improvement but not that much.
