Google Pixel 8 5G 256GB Obsidian $897 + Delivery ($0 to Metro / OnePass / C&C / in-Store) @ Officeworks

570

Looks to be a historical low and available for click and collect at some stores. 128GB Obsidian is $797 - but note there are other deals involving vouchers which might be better for some.

Meet Pixel 8 - the helpful phone engineered by Google, with an amazing camera, powerful security and an all-day battery. With Google AI, you can do more, even faster – like fix photos, enhance videos, get answers and more.² And Pixel 8 has personal safety features for added peace of mind.

  • The Pixel's 6.2" OLED display and 1080 x 2400 resolution delivers sharp, vivid colours and rich detail
  • 50 MP Octa PD wide and 12 MP ultrawide rear cameras with up to 8x Super Res Zoom, as well as a 10.5 MP front camera.
  • 8 GB of RAM.
  • 256 GB storage capacity.

I would strongly recommend buying in person over click and collect, as OW have extensive form in cancelling click and collect orders on "privacy and security" grounds when they feel like it and taking a long time to refund.

$797 for 128 GB is a better deal to enter into pixel phones.

This is such a good deal. I have pixel 7 pro but if I didn't then I'll jump on this.

Pardon my ignorance but would this be considered as a flagship phone? After the S4 galaxy, i wandered into the xiaomi, realme and nokia8 category. Low to mid range phones, some of which had brilliant specs in some areas while compensating with the lack of another feature such as a substandard camera for example.

The pixel 8 is well renowned but has only 8 gb ram while many other brands offer 16 gb memory for example. I have seen impressive and annoying ads about its famed camera. So is it a compelling buy in this case for me?

P.s have a realme rmx2111 at present and want to upgrade to a faster phone with more native storage if possible.

I'd say borderline yes. The Pixel 8 Pro definitely is, while the non-pro version here has slightly lower specs and is a bit cheaper.

      • Thanks for that!

  • Op is for a limited time or new retail price?

    • No idea. I'd set up a price alert for credit card price matching and noticed it pinged.

  • This will be the same price as the galaxy a55 I believe. I was originally going to wait for that, but there is no way it will beat the pixel 8 with value. hmmm…

      I've been waiting for the s23 256gb but it won't budge under 1k :(

      • That for under 1k sounds like an incredible buy though

My experience with pixel phones so far:
    1. Horrible fingerprint scanner
    2. Below average display quality, lots of cheaper phones have got better display
    3. Battery barely lasts from morning up until bedtime, not good for a trip where you'll take lots of photos etc. and it'll lose lots of charge in finding and latching to the best network time and again.
    4. Heavier and thicker than many cheaper phones, could've improved over generations, but still there same old brick..
    5. Hangs quite often (a couple months old pixel 7 right now) in normal use too when Battery is around 80% and just a couple of apps are running in the background.
    6. The camera is a bit of a hype.

The only positive I see is updates for long. But being a Huawei user until a couple of years ago, I miss that flagship quality, design and performance. Even Xiaomi used to perform much better and it had a huge community support as well.

Nexus devices used to be great (had Nexus 5).

    • RE #3. Are you talking about WiFi or mobile networks?

My wife has a Pixel 5 and it's not lasing the day anymore but she regularly grinds the battery to zero without batting an eyelid.

      • I believe it is an issue with the Samsung made Tensor SOCs that the Pixel 6 and onwards use so the Pixel 5 would be affected.

    • Absolutely my experience. These are not flagship phones by any means. Camera and Software is the only saving grace for these phones. All your points above are valid. I still my Samsung S10 5G. The best of everything, true flagship in every sense. Amazing display, photos, 3.5 mm Jack, Huge.

    • If Nexus 5 is your reference, Pixel 7a will be better in every way and lower price point as well.

    • I bought my first Pixel (8) in December, after a Xiaomi Note.
No complaints about any of these things … except battery life. I generally get a full day, but I need to be much more mindful of when I charge. (I could get 48 hrs on my Xiaomi pretty easily.)

    • I agree with your points. I upgraded from a Pixel 5 to Pixel 7a and got very disappointed. Pixel 5 was probably the last good Pixel (for now). It had an accurate fingerprint scanner, was thinner/more lightweight, and it felt premium when compared to 7a's plasticky construction.

That being said, camera, features, and performance are fine. I'm planning to keep my 7a until it breaks.

    • Have you owned an 8?

  • If you don't need 256GB, the 128GB is only $788.99.

  • can you get JB Hifi to match office works and get the giftcard still?

    • +2

Just tested and bought. JB-Hifi will price match and give you the Gift card still.

      Bought at Melbourne CBD store.

      • Did same in Canberra at Belconnen location.

      • Tried but chat said they wouldn't due to deal

OW trade in on the Pixel 6a was $45 more ($195 vs $150) + there was a $100 trade in deal so was $147 ahead with OW compared to JB

Just have to wait for the $100 gift card to come through, but annoying thing was the $195 trade in came in 3 seperate gift cards (150, 30, 15) and online checkout only permits 1x GC

Will use the other two in store on a new case

Officeworks also offering $100 Gift Card plus a small Trade In on participating devices at a $797 price tag. Even available on the 7a and $200 on the 8 Pro

  • Contemplating getting the 256gb model.

Upgrading from a s20+ so hopefully it's a noticeable improvement
