  • SD is around the GTX 1650 range?
What kind of new games can run on it ?

    • Robocop, Helldivers, Palworld so far.

      • +1

Robocop runs on 720p medium setting?

      • Huh, palworld really? I kinda thought that game would tank steam deck, but I'm impressed if it can run it well

        • run it well acceptably.

        • Just acceptable. If you do the FSR3 mod on it, you can get around 30-40fps on average

        • Runs fine on some medium settings, heats it up like a pan and drains battery in about an hour or so

Before this post gets inundated with command questions

You can install other launchers on the steam deck with scripts which are easy to use.

I have seen lots of these 2nd hand must be people found out that these are not what they're expecting. I can't imagine pc gaming on small screen device, it doesn't sit well with me.

    • +2

I personally think it's not the screen that disappoints people, it's the sheer size of the device (it's actually too big). I personally prefer something smaller like a Ayn Odin 2.

      • I'm the opposite. I like the size. The Odin screen is too small for my old eyes.

      • Steam deck ENHANCED :( my carpel tunnel syndrome, great device otherwise, especially the screen.

I wonder if the ally is any more helpful in that case or I just go back to pc.

They're all upgrading to the OLED.

normally id agree, but for commuting and travel, i can see a use for these

I LOVE my Steam Deck. As a console gamer, this allows me to run PC games in a console like format. So far, all games I’ve tried, run beautifully: Helldivers 2, Red Dead 2, Midnight Suns.

Don’t let the specs fool you - not running Windows frees up a lot of processing power. Plus, with Valve being so influential, developers will actually optimise with the Steam Deck in mind - something other handheld PCs could never claim.

Sure, the graphics aren’t that of a desktop, but in my opinion, your favourite game is not your favourite because of the graphics…

    • You're not playing RTS or Total War on these devices. You're playing games with gamepads in mind. There's plenty of Indy titles that don't need M/KB. There's plenty of third person games that are cross platform.

Agreed there are some games that you need to run on a PC but SD opens up commuting or small game sessions for 1000s of games you have across all your stores.

Who even provides the after sales support for the steam deck in oz?

    • +2

      Mobileciti, legally.

  • Tempting but I'm holding out for the Steam Deck 2, might be a while but if you follow AMD APU tech then you can kinda predict when a Steam Deck 2 will launch.

    • +3

The real question people want answwered is when's the os being released for general use like valve promised. I haven't upgraded my PC in years as I don't get time to play it much, but I'd consider making a nice looking box for under the TV with steam os instead of windows.

$1052 for the 512GB OLED at dick smith eBay

    • +3

Was just thinking this… I saw this price yesterday and wondered why no one had posted it.

      Almost under 1k. HODL

  • What a shame the ebay coupon was limited to $100. How often does ebay release better codes that might be available from a seller selling the steam deck?

  • if only it was half the price the 512gb model

    • What do you mean? I thought people buy 20-100 of everything in ozbargain. Even car deals people be like thanks bought 20.

  • Just be mindful that Mobileciti don’t include an AU charger at all, unlike Kogan.

For the same price point, you should consider buying from Kogan instead
