  • OP, your thoughts on fugu (when it was 299 with silicone band) versus orca (now 299)?

    • +2

I've never seen the Orca in person so can't add much other than personal opinion, which like aholes, everybody has one.

FYI - The Orca has non-standard lugs so you won't be able to swap the strap to anything else. Not sure why they do this.

  • -1

    That's a bit purdy.

  • +1

Bought the black face a couple of weeks ago and now I like this better!!

    • +1

Yeah I like the black face too

      • +3

        Justin Trudeau is that you?

    • I'm the same.

    • +2

These trolls with minimal contribution and useless, repetitive comments really need to be banned.

        • +3

Why's the watch worthless? Ugly is subjective.

            • -6

@Jigram: Actually out of the three, I like the eco drive the best.

            • +5

@Jigram: Maybe instead of your "Shiiiiiiiiter" comments you could provide some alternatives or detail your journey.

It's not that hard to write a useful comment.

            • @Jigram: What watches do you opt for? Provide links of ur fav watches so we can compare.

            • +2

@Jigram: "only ever made money on them"…

Yeah right… Even 95% of luxury watches devalue the moment they leave the showroom, the only way that is possible is if you,

              A. Only bought 2nd hand and lowballed until someone accepted

or B. Got lucky in buying a few watches in 2019/2020 before everything increased in value post covid

              • -1

@Binchicken22: Err no. I buy second hand but well cared for ‘icons’ at good prices and if I’ve decided to sell I’ve been able to sell for the same or more than I paid, depending on the price. Never ripped anyone off.

Never paid RRP for a piece. Generally speaking you’re crazy to do so

            • @Jigram:

I only ever made money on them.

Did you notice how the price of Rolex plummeted when Bitcoin did? Albeit they were very over inflated but I'd never get dragged into the hype of paying more than RRP.

              • -1

@G-rig: Yeah I didn’t buy any hype pieces either. The chickens have come home to roost for the Rolex flippers. There’s a piece I genuinely want to have and keep but I haven’t been able to get it. So annoying - it’s not even a rare model.

            • @Jigram: @Jigram what a moron comment. Not everyone needs an abnoxious overpriced luxury watch to pretend they're some mind of baller. Life lesson the only person that cares about that expensive watch on your wrist is you. Majority of people couldn't care less and probably think you're an idiot for spending thousands on a watch

              • -2

@Mdjz76: I agree that not everyone needs a luxury watch. I also agree that nobody really cares. I buy my collection for me. I love quality and I love the history and precision that goes into quality pieces.

If people think I’m stupid then they’re misguided. It’s been a financially sound thing to do. Some guys are into cars and boats, which are financial nightmares. I’m into watches, which if you’re smart are not.

At the end of the day it’s just a piece of metal though. I love watches but could live without.

            • +4

@Jigram: All talk, no substance. Why don't you post a deal to these 'better looking cheapies', then?

            • +2

@Jigram: "Hurr durr look at me flex"

No one cares what watch you wear bro, we're here to discuss the best bargains.

              • -2

@Ham Dragon: No flex from me - haven’t mentioned my collection.

People comment about value for money on ‘bargains’ all the time.

      • Agree, drainbows on society.
        Jog on.
Surprised the mods never clean up threads.

        • -7

You’re right - they should remove any comment that triggers you.

          • +2

@Jigram: Not trigged buy i'll give it to you - you're a persistent little thing, and don't mind posting despite all the negs.

            • -2

@G-rig: Two things I’m most passionate about and happy to take negs on: cheap watches and Samsung phones 🤣

              • +1

@Jigram: Whatever gets you going.. it's all relative *everyone's budget is different), so there are plenty of people that would call your watch a sh1tter.

                • -2

@G-rig: Shitter isn’t really about how much you spend - there are million dollar shitters (Richard Mille)

                  • @Jigram: Sure.
It's all subjective, no point comping apples with pineapples mate.

    • Champ that's a bit of a silly comment.
For watches at these price ranges it's hard to beat.
Ofcourse the more you go up. The nicer the watch is. But we all started here at some point. And till now I still encourage these ecodrives as they are tremendous value and watch for the money.

  • Picked this up for $169 last week and hadn't got around to turning off search alert notifications. Now I'm slightly sad I didn't hold out.

    • which one?

      • The BM7550-87L.

    • Wouldn't stress about $10. $50 then maybe but if you bought it you would have been happy with the price then.

  • +2

Looks nice thanks OP, got one!

  • +1
    • That is very nice but thats probably because I'm partial to the classic 3 sub dial look.

Actually, the case shape is much more to my liking on this as well

    • agreed, i can't decide between that and OP one.

    • +1

I ended up getting this one instead of OP!

    • Has a Daytona styling.

I want it just for the telemeter.. 😅

  • How easy is it to adjust the watch strap?

    • Its not hard but it does require a tool/pin press.

    • I bought an adjusting kit from Daiso for $6

  • How do you use the bezel to tell the direction… does it contain a compass

    • More for show, afaict.

      • +1

Ah bummer, so its like any circle then

      • +1

I wouldn't bother using it as a compass unless it has a rotating bezel like the alpinist

    • -2

What are people's thoughts on the Fujitsubo? I would have preferred the nb6021-17e black on rubber strap for a lower price. Also the rubber strap looks very comfortable.

    • +1

I am looking at the Fujitsubo, but Jodie has put a doubt in my mind calling it boring. The blue version looks nice.

      • +3

Hmm yeah I've been looking at a few reviews, far from perfect. I'd prefer the black dial with the rubber strap if it was ~$550

Yeah I watched Jody's video too. It's not an exciting watch and seems they could have made it a lot better with some small improvements (moans & niggles):

        • bracelet version makes lug-lug bit long
        • crown too small
        • no grip on the bezel,
        • aluminium bezel fingerprint magnet
        • not a fan of the mismatch Mercedes hand
        • Better fit with micro adjust holes but notice has one half link on each end
        • Those ratchet clasps are designed as divers extensions, not meant to be for fit (and too long for smaller wrists).

        This was an interesting review:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AGzvkwp_mg

I've already gor the SPB143 (feels quality and they nail the vintage look and case shape a lot better).
The RRP for both is outlandish (no way the citizen is worth $1550 but bigger discounts).

        • The SPB143 is a beauty. I do like the Fujitsubol. Just on the fence with it. I am looking at the Bulova Jet Star LE. I know it's a completely different watch but I might wait Bulova Jet Star LE to drop on price. Love the look at that watch. So retro.

          • +1

@avra06: Yeah for me it would look a bit similar to the 143 and may as well keep the 50M for a good auto beater.

Those Jet stars are awesome - weren't they cheap on star buy a few weekends ago?
Very retro and I'd appreciate the high beat quartz.

The grey one with lume highlight looks wicked but not that legible so guess grey with red is the best.

        • +1

I picked up the black dial/rubber strap version for $599 when it was on sale last year. Jody's moans and niggles are mostly accurate, but it's still become my new daily driver and I love it. The small crown doesn't make any difference to me personally, nor the fingerprints on the bezel. I do wish the bezel had more grip, and was 120 clicks instead of 60. But for titanium + sapphire + smooth sweep 28800 bph movement (8 ticks per second) + retro look + story behind it + strap monster, for me that's really good value.

          • +1

@b0: Wish I’d bought one on that last deal but hadn’t really looked into it and was trying to decide between the spb143 and spb 239.

Really like the 239 (other than the nato straps) but didn’t jump on it last year when it was about $1200 and now it’s never that cheap on sale.

I wait for the black fujitsubo to come down in price again and keep checking to see if one comes up of FB marketplace.

          • +1

@b0: Yeah no watch is perfect so I think it would still be a great daily as well. I'd still prefer the rubber one For $600 (or $450-500 used). The movement would be noticeably better than the 8204 , they just need to do an update to rizd the bezel and crown (not that you need to adjust them most days). Be cool if you can swap it out with something, the other models are very grippy and notchy. Prefer fencepost hands or swords too like the Tissot but pretty good watch overall.

      • Nice, looks the same pretty much but like the colour.

  • Picked up the Oris Coulson :D

  • -5

i prefer the coutura's sleek design over these seikos

    • Do you think a Coutura would satisfy @Jigram?

  • +3

My picks are: https://starbuy.com.au/citizen-365-mens-watch-bn1014-55e/ dial is stunning and has new 365 day movement

and: https://starbuy.com.au/mas-aquila-anthracite-mens-pilot-watc… if you want a simple flieger type-A with no date. It's very well made and has great specs

    And the Fujitsubo: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/818984

    • +1

Grabbed the anthracite MAS, thanks for the heads up. Nice and simple, great specs (and no ghost date position).

      Only two left now apparently.

  • Upon receiving this watch i hand help but feel the RRP is heavily inflated.

The watchbis nice enough, but the case finishing leaves a lot to be desired, the edges are damn sharp as though no finishing or polishing has been done.

    • The RRP on most citizens and Seikos is laughable, nothing new. 149$ is pretty cheap to be honest but a fair price.
