  • price match Amazon?

    • I don't believe Amazon sell it.

Close to patrol price per litre

  • Doesn't Earth Choice rate pretty poorly for cleaning results in Choice tests (ie barely better than just using water only)? Might be good for the environment but pointless if it won't actually clean your clothes.

barely better than just using water only

Might be good for the environment

If that's really the case, water is even better for the environment. It's also cheaper.

I use this regularly to wash pretty filthy clothes and towels - always works well.

@placard Not quite that bad, in September 2023 they tested 146 clothes washing detergents, "Earth Choice Ultra Concentrate Front Loader"
came 60th out of 146 reviews, so easily in the top half but still not excellent and it wasn't "recommended" by Choice, but only a few are.
Surprisingly it only got a "B" for "Shop Ethical rating", which is a rating of the company not the product, it's still good and better than 90% of the products tested,
but I was surprised to see it didn't get an "A" after all their marketing claims.
I copy/pasted some of the CHOICE magazine data below,
      TEST RESULTS;
      CHOICE Expert Rating 62%
general detergency (60%), perspiration stains (65%), grass/mud stains (69%), olive oil stains (58%), tomato stains (80%), make-up stains (44%), mineral oil stains (38%), chocolate ice cream stains (67%), baby food stains (37%), blood stains (80%) and . All products are tested in cold water (20°C).

Shop Ethical rates the environmental and social impact of the company (not the product) using independent sources. This rating is not included in our total score. N/A means there is no rating for that company.

As claimed on the packaging. This generally means the detergent is low in phosphorus and sodium, and your greywater would be safe for plants.
      Yes
Safe for septic tanks View more details.

A green tick indicates the detergent is claimed to be safe for septic tanks if used as directed. The claim is usually based on the detergent having no chlorine bleach or phosphates. While detergents generally don't have much of an effect on the septic tank's treatment capabilities, a high sodium load can cause problems with the soil over time as it's released into the subsoil trenches.
      Yes
Low to no phosphate View more details.

As claimed on the packaging. Phosphates help soften the water and keep extracted dirt in suspension. But high levels of phosphorus can lead to excessive growth of blue-green algae in inland waterways.

Surprisingly it only got a "B" for "Shop Ethical rating",

Just looked it up. Can only think it's because they use palm oil.

Palm oil may be a real issue for various reasons but compared to so much else it's just a big diversion and boogeyman that allows people to shake their fists and overlook the simpler things that cause even more wholesale destruction and violence.
