umm, they've sold for $279 since May according to the ebay purchase history (except for one fool who bought it for $399 lol)

even as low as $226 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/74628

    • Yeah it should be Normally $279. Earliest record here at that price — more than a year ago.

Is this grounds enough for me to neg this deal yet? the last sale was only 2 weeks ago, and im sure the next "sale" is only 2 weeks away.

if this hits $250 or something, then that's a good deal. But as it stands, you're basically playing rrp.

  • Got it! Love it! Can't fault it!

well thats why i asked lol, so this is better then? im a lil worried about the 8ms response & 1000:1 contrast ratio.. is there anything better on the market?

        • +2

'Better' is very subjective. The IPS display has better colour reproduction, so if you're a heavy photoshop user, then it would be more suitable than the unnamed $225 monitor.
However, IPS displays aren't that great if you plan on playing FPS's heavily (though I doubt the input lag would make a giant world of difference), so you would then be better off with the unnamed $225 monitor. The IPS monitor won't display deep blacks as well as other monitors do, either, but it is 16:10, so you'll get a higher resolution for the same screen size and PPI.
So whatever suits you. I'd recommend not cutting corners on the monitor.

This is probably the best middle-of-the-road monitor for sale currently. Excellent colour reproduction for the price.

      • And not to overlook vertical viewing angle - the seemingly small 18 degree difference being misleading due to the extreme exagerration applied to this spec for TN panels.

      • Did they remove the height adjustable stand?

I swear the two of these I have at home are height adjustable.

More importantly, can they still be rotated vertically?

        • The pictures in the overview section would indicate no and yes to your questions.

    • 1920 x 1080 not good enuf, 1200 makes all the difference, no hassle full replacement Warranty, even with one dead pixel, matt screen, 4 USB port onboard, ahhhhhh just love IPS DELL monitors.

      • I have one of these. Completely forgot about the USB hub. Thanks for reminding me.

  • a very GOOD monitor, i m using mine for a few months and fully satisfied.

throw away those BenQ, Samsung and doggy brands. Get a real stuff.

$279 is a frequent sale price, good stuff can't be discounted much.

It is a poor man AppleDisplay.

    • +3

High level Samsung monitors are actually quite good. But I don't suppose you've ever used one. No, you're above that, aren't you? ;-)
And I'm not sure that last part deserves addressing.

    …or you can get a new U2312HM for $165 from DFO (currently 8 left)…smaller but much cheaper…

    http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/product…

    • what does it mean "Pre-configured New"?

    • Keep in mind the U2312HM is also 1920x1080 instead of 1920x1200 like the U2412M.

    • From googling it seems the U2312HM is NOT the same as the U2312H, which is inthe DFO for $165.

It looked a bit weird for me missing the M in the model number so I had to go investigate (since I'm looking at picking up a U2312HM when I next see it on sale)
