  • Cheers OP

  • Thanks OP :)

  • Have a + for including a free pun in your post.

  • This is the cheapest it has been (twice), albeit there was the 2 for $70 last year prime day

  • Seems to also been a discount on Amazon Echo Show 5, 8 & 10

I have this. The apps that you can install work fine, Plex jellyfin etc, but the Amazon store is very lack luster.

No steam, no Firefox, no Xbox Game pass etc etc

Wish I'd gotten something with the play store.

    • Tedious, I know, but you can side load. Just be careful of some of the "how to" sites. They can take you around in endless circles.

    • +1

Have you try sideloading? U can use send files to tv app.

  • +1

Wicked! Searched for this last night and it was full price and now on sale!

  • Better than JB now.

  • Ended up purchasing Fire Stick HD just 2nights ago for $39 😔

But only have a 1080p TV..
Should I refund and get the 4K Max for $10 extra?

    • +6

4K will be better overall. Feel snappier etc.

    • +1

      Yes, refund

    • Yes refund. The 4K is the better product. I have this on my 1080p TV and the interface is very snappy.

  • Any opinion on what this will add if you already have a Chromecast Ultra?

    • +1

      already have a Chromecast Ultra

You don't need to cast from phone, Fire TV or Chromecast TV have remote on it own.

Whilst this is cheaper than Chromecast 4K, it doesn't come with the necessary cables and plugs. I'm keen to know if it is better than Chromecast 4K though

    • +4

Which cables and plugs are you referring to?

I have both the Firestick 4K and the Chromecast 4K. Haven't needed to buy anything additional for either of them.

      • When I'm at the Amazon page of Firestick 4K, on the right to select add to cart, underneath is a section to buy cables and accessories… but you may be right… so alittle unsure.

Anyways, since you have both, which one give you a better experience?

        • Amazon might refer to that as "value adding". I call it gouging.

I much prefer the UI on the Chromecast, also found the Google Play Store to have a couple of apps (that I use) which aren't available on Amazon. The remote that comes with the Firestick is a little better however.

So the Chromecast is my main device, and the Firestick is in the bedroom and I'll take it on travels.

I bought an ethernet adaptor for around $30 for my Firestick 4K as I prefer to have everything I can wired. I didn't bother buying the adaptor so the firestick can be powered by the TV but that's an option also.

      • I bought the regular fire stick a couple of months back and it came with power adapter, usb cable and a HDMI extension if your tv doesnt allow it to be directly plugged in.
I saw the cable kits but I figured I'd have enough around the house if it didnt come with any.

lol… who negged me? I mean really? lol

  • It's a decent little device but the home screen has ads and the app store is pretty limited.

  • Could probs price match at JB and then use $10 perks code

    • Perks code is expired apparently, and valid for above $50 anyhow.

  • +4

You can side load SmartTubeNext onto this if you want to watch ad-free YouTube. Kodi also works well.

  • +1

    JB won't price match
rep said Hi there,So we are offering it at the same price with amazon at the moment, we unfortunately don't price match with amazon prime offers, as those require an amazon prime membership subscription, and it does go against our members only price match exclusion

  • Anyone have experience using this with plex?
    Any showstoppers?

    • +1

Works fine. It's also in the appstore so easy to install unlike, say, Kodi and Stremio which must be sideloaded should you want them.

      • Thanks!

      • I hear Kayo is supported now.

        • Yes and binge

Previously a Firestick fan. But in recent months wifi has become very flaky, with the FS 4k's dropping the connection every 15-20 minutes. Only cold restarting the firestick will achieve a reconnection. Amazon tech support has been no help, recommending I replace the existing mesh system. That i won't do because everything else works flawlessly.

I thank your gods that I have Google Android TV/ chromecast units as a fall back.

  • I just bought this yesterday on JB site with perks became $49!

Anyone recommend any good TV and movies add-ons? Either on Kodi or another app?

    Similarly for sports too?

  • On sale again for $49.

  • I use this with moonlight to stream games to my tv, so I can play on the couch. Lowest latency of devices tested ~3-5ms.

Recently bought a Chromecast with Google TV 4K (comes with a handy remote) for $55 and found it fantastic. I can use it to even turn off the projector. Plus, it has Google Play Store and I could also sideload and use an app not available in Australia.

What benefits does this Amazon stick have over Chromecast?

    • I have the same question in my mind, thinking go to officework to use my GC for chrome cast.

    • I think chromecast is more versatile. Firestick is also great and for me seems to work better with my smartdns when accessing overseas apps (but it could be due to the smartdns being optimised for the Firestick somehow) Otherwise the chromecast is better as it also allows to chromecast from your phone/tablet.

      • wasn't aware of Smart DNS.

I am using Windscribe app in Chromecast and it is doing the job for watching overseas content (after sideloading the apk). But Smart DNS seems simpler.

        • Yes, you just add details to your router. I use getflix. You then need readdress some of the countries at times (and let's you change amazon country as well)

  • What are all the best apps to side load these days for free viewing, internet searches aren’t helping me much.

  • Officeworks seems to be 47 now

  • Got one, thanks.
