      if bought at this price
      maybe a better review

      • +3

I paid double this price lol. Well worth it at this price. Buy cheaper clones and they will stop working IMO as per my other family members experiences. But yes, as per my comment below does require some self maintenance.

        • +1

Yes that's my experience too, my cheaper clone (ecovacs) has had the mop attachment fail 2x now and it seems to be not working as well after only 1.5 years, i reckon its on its last legs.

        • I'll second this, I bought it when it first came out, it hasn't missed a beat other than a wheel replacement that I did when it ran over a barbie's hair and did a good number on itself, it's been pretty good. (However, in saying that, it was my first robot vacuum so I have nothing to compare that to.) Definitely haven't experienced what those reviews are saying.

those reviews are very bad… what is the ozbargain best robot vac?

      • +8

        anything roborock

        • I've read a boatload of OzBargain threads on robovacs, Roborock definitely the highest rated.

        • I've heard its also easier to integrate to Home Assistant if that was ur thing.

        • 100%. Got two roborocks , S6 and S6 Pure , S6 coming up to 3 years, never missed a beat, S6 Pure 1.5 years no dramas. Great cleaning, app is excellent. Totally recommend.

      • s7 max ultra is the best, but its around 2k

        • 2nd best.
S8 pro ultra is the new top but yes these are the cream of the crop

    • Big discount = not that good as original price

Had mine for 4 years now. Still working well for it's age but you'll need to be able to do some open this roller wheel compartment or the bin compartment to do some self maintenance/clean the charging contacts or dust off the camera sensors to keep it going. I'd hate to see what eventually happens if you don't do any of that? XD

The bot emptying its own bin is such a first world problem luxury too haha ;P

    • Abot rubber rollers, are they inferior to brushes and do you have wifi disconnection issues?
Reviews on productreview is shockingly bad

      • I have not read any of the reviews and am not about to haha, but your questions have highlighted that more of my context would be useful for everyone to consider - that I have hard floors, so the rubber rollers work well in my case. But family members with longer hair…….. means when I do the regular maintenance every couple of months there is hairs rolled up in the ends of the rubber roller tubes but the design takes care of this in such a way that unless you don't clear it for 6 months to a year or don't have 10 long haired family members the amount collecting at the ends doesn't impact the bot's functioning. Also, my place is only about 80 sqm, and I only get the bot to do one pass of each room instead of double passes. And the bot does a once daily clean unless I have visitors over and need a bit of a clean afterwards.

As for wifi disconnection - I have my bot on a guest wifi and not on my main one, and sometimes I do find it drops off but usually it's easily fixed by connecting to the guest wifi to get the bot working again, so I'm uncertain if that's a similar issue or not.

      • https://builder.dontvacuum.me/ which should install valetudo should solve most issues on most robots.

Older vaccums are easy but newer ones not so much.

The s7 we use went back a couple of times and it ended up out of warranty. After rooting and flashing it all problems went away like wifi disconnects, incorrect battery reporting level causing it to rtb half way through a run, incorrect sensor reporting. Not starting.

Re wifi the roborocks keep dropping of the network if they can't contact overseas servers and reconnect.

It's good hardware just the manufacturer's appear to want to establish a tunnel to somewhere and do things with you data.

Happy to offer tips and it's really well documented.

If you can use a philips head and basic soldering iron (or even wires and cellotape!) you can have an awesome vacuum.

iRobot was great 5 years ago
But now there are many more options which are better and cheaper TBH
Even the Viomi S9 (which I bought it for $499) has a better navigation and obstacle avoidance than my iRobot (irobot jet m6)

  • What's the discounted JB shopping card?

    • If you can score some Ultimate giftcards in coles (currently have 15% bonus value)
Ultimate everyone, Ultimate Kids, Ultimate Home can all be used in JB

  • I have the i5, and it’s dumber than the $200 Eufy robot vac that it replaced.

  • Just got the Q7 Max for $599, worried I should have gotten this.

One thing I can say about iRobot is they have amazing customer service. I had a 5 year old model that stopped charging, called the help line and got through quickly to an Australian call centre, they were very helpful even though it was out of warranty, gave me a few things to try and said call back if it still doesn't work. I tried what they suggested but was too lazy to ever call them back, never got it working again and chucked it haha. Sorry about the sad ending to my story :(

    • +2

      I don't think you've made a mistake, Q7max is a good vacuum

  • v old and obsolete model

  • +2

I thought of buying it too. But after looking at reviews and how old this model is with pretty poor navigation results, probably buy a Roborock.

  • wait what Jb discounted shopping card?

    • +1

ultimate gift cards which has jbhifi as one of the listed stores

  • Does this have the ability to spread cat poo all around the house?

  • +1

J7 I think is miles better because of the camera placement, but the price is also vastly different. Lidar tech is easy better for mapping/etc. but the iRobot app feels more polished.

Had top of the line Ecovacs previously (X1 Omni) and after 3 months returned it and will probably never go for a Vac that does both mopping and vacuum together with a self emptying base station (tldr; maggots in robot and base station).

    Had 1st gen Roborock > Ecovacs X1 > Roomba J7+.

  • I have it, I’ve always been happy with it, just use it in hardwood.

But, I’ve recently fell victim to the pet poo apocalypse for the 2nd time… so if I had the choice, I’d spend the extra 700 on getting one with poo detection.
