Going to Be Spending $7k at The Dentist, Any Good Visa or Mastercard?

I’m going to be spending $7k at the dentist in a few months. What’s the best way to pay for it in order to get some points through a visa or Mastercard rewards system?

Many dentists will let you pay in monthly installments.

You could go to Thailand, get your dental done in a luxury dental resort for less, or treat yourself to some veneers and implants if you are missing any teeth.

This. I've been going to the same dental clinic in Siam Paragon since 2010. It's one of the more expensive places in Thailand yet it still has saved me a bucket. Dentists are UK educated and facilities are better than I have seen in my hometown. It's a no brainer.

      • You reckon I could get a crown done for cheap?

I've seen some ads in Australia where they'll do everything for $1000

    • I guess the next question from OP would be, what is a good VISA/Mastercard with points and no currency conversion fees?

Don't know why you were negged, take my upvote to balance it out.
Some ignorant or close minded people on here.
Dental tourism is a REAL thing people.
India, Thailand and other countries where you have a recommendation. Do tickets PLUS a holiday PLUS dental work, for half the cost.

      Hahaha… This ^^^ is a good option.

I had a quote to remove my wisdom teeth which ranged from like $250-$400 per tooth at the time. As it were I was going to Thailand for holiday and ended up having my wisdom teeth removed over there at a total cost of $70.

      • Yep, I was quoted the same, plus extra $600 for general anesthesia. About $2,000 for 4 teeth removal, $1k, for two. Plus the G A on top.

    • Not interested in dental tourism

      • I bet Australian dentists go overseas for their veneers.

Find a GOOD SE-Asia dentist without fake reviews and get it done there, recover in a resort, have a holiday, come back with money in your pocket compared to local dentists.

    • do they also accept credit card

Unless your dental work is an emergency or pose significant immediate issues, I find very little reason to get it dental work done in Aus. South-East Asia has some excellent dentists for a fraction of the cost. I always get dental work done when I'm overseas.

    • What about laser eye surgery? Would you save money by having it done in SE-Asia without any additional risks?

The main benefit will come from the credit card sign up promotion for points. To be eligible for the points, you'll need to have a minimum spend on the card, so you'll be able to meet that requirement by paying your dentist bill. Keep an eye on ozbargain or a site like pointshacks closer to the time to find a good promo

  • Velocity high flyer card, see if you can do split payments as they have 120k points over 3 months for 3.5k spend each month

Or get a couple cards and split the payment so you knock over two promotional requirements

    Things to consider…..

Does your dentist charge a credit card surcharge? If so, it may well wipe out the value of any points earned.

What are you hoping to do with the points? It used to be that the best value was to use them for airline reward redemptions in premium cabins, but the airlines seem to be forever "enhancing" the number of points required, credit card companies are "enhancing" their redemption rates, and premium cabins when and where you'd like them are getting harder and harder to come by. The alternative is to redeem them for economy reward flights, gift cards, toasters or other such junk, but the redemption rates are pretty poor.

Does your dentist offer a discount for cash? Might be more value in that.

  • Coles rewards Mastercard, nab platinum rewards and citi rewards with velocity points. Split the payment and collect some velocity points

  • I rather go abroad to get it fixed as its cheap there.

you can go to a trip and enjoy your visit. while getting your teeth fixed.

i bet it would be less than your dentist going to charge you here .

i can delete comment if you think so .

i don't expect commission or kick backs from these clinics, its just shared to say how much they cost .

you could find so many clinics around and go to of your choice .

  • dental tourism search gave me so many search results i am not picking any . you can choose one out of here .

    many countries have these.

We recently did this. Both husband and I got the Citibank credit card with $600 cashback with $2000 spend (one credit card each). We split the full braces payment over the two cards to maximize cashback.
