Leatherman OHT Black $259 Delivered @ Leatherman

50

I was notified today by email that this tool is back in stock at the Australian Leatherman store, not a very cheap price but these things are getting hard to find. I love this tool, but I break them often so I'm always on the lookout.

I got one of these a year ago when it was posted here for $118. I would not recommend unless you really want the one hand feature. Most leathermen can open one handed anyway with a bit of a flick. Definitely my least used multitool

  • What do you break on these and is it covered by warranty?

What do you break on these

      Your wallet ?

    • mostly the strap cutter, any twisting whilst pulling will snap it like a twig. i have to be real careful when cutting large cable ties… I havent tried claiming warranty for my misuse but one tool did break some locking springs and i made a successful warranty claim for that.

Leatherman Australia have been awesome with my warranty claims. I've put about 4 different multitools through them.

Using cable ties, I just used the pliers and twisted them.

        • I do the same, works better that trying to cut with a knife or the seatbelt cutter.

That said, I've just grabbed an OHT off the shelf, and compared to my Charges cutter, its a bit shit. Thinner blade and only one cutting bevel.

25 year warranty is great. Leatherman standby their products.

OP, never be afraid to claim on warranty, the worst they can say is 'NO'.

    Leatherman $259

    OMG

My $8 Aldi one is still going strong !!!

    • Looks like you got the neg you were after (not me by the way)

edit: now it's gone, but will it return?

Looks like you got the neg you were after

        Wasn't after the neg.

The one I have does pretty much everything I need it for without the ridiculous price.

It does seem quite costly for a multitool

            Do you speed read?

  • I've had my Leatherman Charge for about 10 years now. I use it every day.

How on Earth do you manage to break it, and break it often? This same model every time?

    • I broke my wave once (though im not sure how) - was trying to pull a stuck dowel out of a hole with the plier function and something snapped inside, which was what was holding the tool together so it went all loose after that… was fixed no dramas via warranty

    • I broke the tip off of one of the jaws on a wave, I wasn’t even doing anything particularly rough. Still haven’t sent it in for repair though because I use it everyday.

      • The dangers of being too massive with insane grip strength

    • And not even try to claim it through warranty?! If I bought a multitool for this much money I'd be expecting it to work without breaking "often".
      Hardly a ringing endorsement.

  • I used this daily for about 6 years as multitool. Very useful for the one handed opening. However, the knife is literally useless, so if you need a knife you are better off carrying a secondary knife.

I also bought a Skinth to carry it along with a torch, knife and box/tape cutter.

edit: I have also used several Waves and a supatool 3000. Different ones for different uses. Supatool now lives in my car. The wave lives in someone else's bag because it got stolen.

Different multitools for different…multi uses? Defeats the purpose a bit.

Not really, unless you intend to get a tool like this: https://www.amazon.com.au/Wenger-16999-Swiss-Knife-Giant/dp/…

Certain sets of tools can be better for certain purposes, the one in the post has an oxygen tank wrench, that's not exactly something most people need on a tool.

        • That's 7lbs of awesomeness. Such a pity it's out of stock
