Selling a "Lucky" 888 Mobile Phone Number?

This is news to me, but apparently people (not businesses) want to buy good/lucky phone numbers. Has anyone done this either buying or selling one? What was your process?

I have a number with 888 in the middle. No idea how much it might be worth to someone. But interested to hear anyone's experience, cos again I didn't even think this was a thing…

Particularly Chinese as the number 8 (ba first sound) in Chinese Mandarin sounds similar to fa (1st sound), which means make fortune. It's super niche, really up to you to make an offer to a person interested or vice versa. Number dealings are super popular in China but not so much here I guess. I mean Australian numbers starts with 04 which is consider bad in Chinese anyways. License plates, on the other hand, could fetch a good price

  • Worth a couple of hundred, apparently. Even more if it's an easy number to remember.

This ebay account has sold 162 numbers since it started.

I'm trying to sell a "444" number but no luck so far.

Am only asking for half the price of the "888"

    • +3

who want to buy half the luck?

      • It could be 0444 888 444…The individual digits still add up!

        • Now that's a good number.

          • @boomramada: Only if you're into 'hell money'!

            • @bobbified: even better if you have a partner with that number, less chance of forgetting it , now I call that lucky lol

              • +3

@boomramada: I'm just picturing my (asian) family blaming every little bad thing that happens to me on that number!

    • 😂

    • I once had a car with the number plate 444 (not counting the 2 alphabet prefix) - and when the car died of “heart attack”, to be written off, someone I know (originally South African) specifically asked for the plate. In his eyes, it’s a good number :-)

    • too bad, not single but triple death.

i feel sorry for the guy with 0400000000

    • I do too! I think about him/her every time I fill out a dodgey online form!
Although I sometimes try to be fair and use 0411111111 and 0422222222, etc too.

No need to feel bad, I just tried calling it and the automated message says the number is not connected

      So all’s good

      • That's just my voicemail

  • Have you tried Triple Eight Racing?

  • This is news to me, but apparently people (not businesses) want to buy good/lucky phone numbers.

Wait till you find out the asking price for some of them.

    • OMG!!! Really?

  • -1

    lol

  • What are the other numbers?

    • 6 and 7

  • Same with car prices that are targeting Asian clientele $98,888

    For example this Lexus

    • And houses, I remember years ago when houses were around the 700k mark in Chatswood Sydney, one was advertised for $888,888. At the time it seemed like a preposterous, cynical, opportunistic grab for money, but seems a bargain now.

  • This is news to me

    …. cos again I didn't even think this was a thing…

If you have to repeat it twice in a short OP then ….
