Z Fold 4 Owners Did You Get Insurance?

To all who bought and are currently using a Fold device, did you get Samsung Care+ or equivalent? (JB-Hifi mobile care, Telstra/Optus payments)? Why and why not?

I'm considering of purchasing one but thought that with the premium pricing and no dust resistance, I thought it might be worth it to get insurance on the device - that and screen replacements are going to be quite expensive.

Thoughts?

If you are as clumsy as my brother then insurance makes sense. He smashes his phone a few times a year, sometimes I wish he would just get a tough case from Otterbox or something but he never learns and his is always case-less and no screen protector (not even a tempered glass protector). His reasoning…. he doesn't want to cover up the beautiful lines of the device…. crock of $hit if ya breaking a device every few months lol.

  • have flip4, No careplus but did invest $150 on good phone cases. I use them alternatively with watch bands.

My experience: I got Samsung Care+ with mine, because it was free direct through Samsung with the purchase.

Had it for my Fold 2 and 3 too, but never needed to use it. I don't use a case with my phones, but I often notice I'm more careful with my phone and tech than the average person.

Haven't had any issues with dust or water. I do have a waterproof clear pouch thing from Amazon for when I go to the beach that lets you still use the phone folded but keeps sand out.

  • I got the Flip 4 which came with Samsung Care+ with the preorder bonus. Recently my dog knocked my phone off the table and the hinge got jammed and they actually ended up replacing it for free. I read online it's hit or miss so I guess I just got lucky. I also had the first Flip and my dog bit through the screen (lol) when he was teething and the cost to replace the screen was almost more than I paid for it since I got it during Black Friday sales.

  • I did for my Fold 3. Haven't used it once. I am not rough with my phones but it's definitely been dropped and thrown around etc.

  • A good phone case and screen protector (if applicable) is a must have before any insurance considerations.

    • Agree! I do plan to get a mil-spec case however I still worry about the longevity of the phone (because of the foldable screen)

  • Have a Fold 4 and I didn't get it. Have a decent case and I have pretty good record with my phone. I only ended up paying about $750 for it. If it had cost me the $2500 maybe i would.

    • Oh how'd you get it for that price? Trade-in? Did you get it 2nd hand?

      • It was originally buying it for around $1800 then work giving me 40% $720 cash back for salary sacrifice. Then Samsung failing to deliver it. So I ordered it again with the 3 galaxy buds discount for $1450. So $1450 - $720. Not replicable unless your work offers salary sacrifice.

  • I thought I did at the time on my Fold 3. When I dropped it, (slight dent), I discovered it wasn't on the Invoice. I didn't pay full price fortunately.

However, I dropped it on the garage floor ( only had the foldable case which holds the stylus) and I have a small crack at the top of the front screen. It still operates okay, but Obviously don't expose it to water.

  • Got Care+ when purchased through the Samsung store online however never used it (yet!).

  • I had samsung care plus with flip 3. 18 months in, phone screen went black. Took it to samsung. Told them i purchased samsung care plus. They checked in thier computer. They say no samsung care in our system. Even though i had invoice saying samsung care purchased along with the phone. Sent an email to samsung care team. They say i did not register my device after the purchase. I told them never got any email. They say bad luck. You paid for service you will never receive. I said give me my money back. Never got any reply back. So not the best experience. However since phone was still under warranty they fixed it for free
