  • Any feedback on this please? Is it better to buy one with an emptying station?

    • +1

Empty station is just a big lazy box for people who can't spend 10 seconds to take dust to dustbin.

      • It charges as well right? The idea of not even thinking about the little dude driving around throughout the day is I thought one of the biggest draws to robovacs.

        • They all have charging docks that they return to. The auto empty stations is just a mechanised bin that sucks the dirt from the vac to a bigger bin. Which you then have to empty at some point. Instead of you taking the bin directly from the vac to a regular bin every time. It's in the realm of mobility scooter type time savings here but some people like it I guess.

          • +3

@whichwhatwho: Fair enough. I personally would only want one with a self emptying station I think. It's annoying me that I need to charge my watch every other day at the moment where I would rather not think about it more than once a week. Same deal with something like this.

            • +1

@Hinee: Worth noting that until very recently all of the self-emptying bins really struggle with pet hair. The self-empty on our ecovacs is literally useless because of our dog, have to empty it manually every time. I think the new, super-high end ones work ok with it but they're crazy expensive still.

            • @Hinee: it sits on it's charge station, you send it off to clean it returns to the dock before the battery dies & recharges, the bin on them should be enough to hold a few cleans depending on size of your place there's not much to think about it

      • +1

incorrect, the empty station is super useful when you want to do multiple cleaning programs - empties itself, recharges and goes again.

I've had my unit for 2 months and just emptied the bag. Have had multiple versions of Roombas and by far the biggest pain was having to empty the bin all the time.

    • empty bin station is not a big deal, I would look for mopping features if you want those machine as this is more work for you, the one that auto clean dirty pads and dry and stuff are gold

I got Narwal Freo and it can sense how dirty the floor is and keep coming back and clean them until it clean
it also sense how dirty the pad is and go back to the station and clean them and continue, for a dirty floor I tried on it going back to the station 5-6 times to clean the pad and one area it came back three times to get it clean

    • Have the j7+ with dustbin. It seems to empty after every vaccuum and goes about it’s business for about a month.

Look for $1000 extra it’s not worth it but if you going to even spend this sort of money you want to get something that doesn’t require attention after every clean (if you have large house and pets)

    • Vacuum Wars on YT is great way to check out reviews.

I'm personally not comfortable with ones that have camera and mic feature.

Cameras are now used as AI obstacle avoidance. Eg cables, toys etc.
I am waiting to pull the trigger on J7+ with mop function.

    • To be honest, if you can spare a minute cleaning it out on once a week, I wouldn't bother. Especially at $1000 more.

P.s - auto empty dock sounds like a jet engine taking off. If you have young children or pets, it will very likely scare them.

This is a great deal from the retail price. Granted, I don't have this model, but I've spent the last few days researching. Even with this discount, I think this still isn't great value. No mop and no lidar (can't use at night well without light), I'm looking at Dreame L10 Pro instead around this price. Ecovacs t9+ is another option ~1k on Good Guys Commerical. Otherwise, look into Roborock options imo.

    • +1

      ecovacs has maps issues

      • +1

Yeah the app is rubbish, wish we'd ponied for the Roborock.

    • the roombas are solid but this is old tech, might as well buy a trusty 600 series otherwise find one with LIDAR wifi etc

    • But look at the price of the L10. Eek

  • +1

    compare with ROBOROCK?

    • +1

      wait for the S8

Price Beat button on TGG applies it down to $584. Also $552 on TGG Commercial.

  • V keen , anyone convince me yay or nay please

but still hasn't gone though the regulatory approvals in the US

    • I'm a bit skeptical… offer was for $61 USD per share, and IRBT is trading at less than $42 USD today

  • We bought Uoni V908 plus when it was advertised on Ozbargain. I was suspecious but it has made a huge difference and couldnt be happier. Havent used mop funciton but the rest has been flawless.

  • Guessing Robot Vacuums are still not great on carpet or rugs?

    • Mines fine on rugs and carpet.

  • Hi guys sorry to ask without even doing an internet search but I was wondering if anyone could speak based on their personal experience which robot vacuum does best with identifying and avoiding wires?

That's the key thing stopping me from buying a robot vacuum.

    • This one does pretty good. I had the high end Ecovacs X1 Omni which I ended up returning (not because of this reason) but it wasn't as good.

This is much better. It asks me after every clean to view images to help it get better, you can also allow or deny it permission to upload them to iRobot's database.
