  • isn't the testra outright purchase of Pixel 7 cheaper by $100 still?

    • Indeed, but looks like Telstra has Pixel 7 on back order for few configurations. Good for someone like me who has store credit with google.

    • Link for the Telstra deal?

If you are looking to get the Pixel 7 128. Use the Celebration Gift Cards and get Officeworks to price match. I called ahead to my local OW to get a confirmation they could match Telstra first. Then when I was in store they initially said no, but got them to say yes in the end. Final price $606.

        • +1

Officeworks Joondlaup refused me yesterday, saying they don't price beat carriers.

          • +1

            @Xenocaust: That's cos you're not as persuasive as Ollie1938 :p

        • That's what I am planning to do as well.

        • I also had success. The staff member was hesitant for some reason, but they called manager who was chill and fine with it.

    • +1

Remember if you have Google One and are on the 2TB plan, you get 10% store credit back on your purchase, making it cheaper still.

      • What's the deal with that - can I get the 2TB plan on monthly and ditch it as soon as I've received the 10% credit?

        • +1

Yes but the credit is issued 30 days after your purchase so you'll need to pay for at least 2 months subscription.

          • @Trishool: Wanted to comment further on this, I had the 2TB Google One when I purchased my P7Pro, and let it expire before the credits were put into my account. When I still had no credits after 31 days, I put in a ticket with Google Support and I was able to get the 10% credit back. Granted though the whole support process took about 3 weeks. Hope this helps anyone that is in the same position as I was.

            • @ahki: The terms actually say you need to have a current subscription when the credits are payed out, so it's gonna very much depend on the generosity of the support agent here.

          • @Trishool: Legend, thanks. 2 months, that's no problem.

My P7 on back order from Telstra took about a week to arrive. They seem to be turning them around pretty quickly. Unfortunately I don't really like the phone because:

    • The fingerprint sensor/software is garbage
    • No notification light

On the plus side the battery life seems good.

    • +9

No notification light is pretty common in most modern phones. You won't find too many with it anymore.

Re fingerprint. It's better after the updates (make sure you've installed latest Dec update!) but still hit or miss a lot.

Strangely, my left hands fingerprints work more often than right. I use face unlock during the day though so it's only a minor annoyance.

Everything else is pretty good about the phone. Coming from my p5 I was concerned with the size.. And whilst I still prefer the p5 size, it's not toooo bad. The 6 was definitely just barely bigger but it really makes a difference.

      • So no face recognition still?

      • Fair point about the notification light. I am on the latest software, and find that a) it's better after a reboot, b) never works in apps, and c) works worse in darker lighting conditions.

Everything else about the phone is ok, agreed. I am coming from a OnePlus 6 and loved both the notification light and the little slider switch to move between silent/vibrate/noisy.

        • +1

Sorry, can you clarify what exacltly are you replying too? Because you first complained there's no notification light, then somebody confirmed there's no notification light, and now you're agreeing but saying how that light works?:

          a) it's better after a reboot, b) never works in apps, and c) works worse in darker lighting conditions.

          I'm confused.

Re fingerprint. It's better after the updates

The fingerprint sensor does not function well if you have dry skin. You can mitigate this by:

        • Touching your face to pick up some oil (not recommended because hygiene)
        • Breathing onto your finger like you're fogging up glass (more reliable)
        • Breathing onto the screen like you're fogging up glass (most reliable)
        • That's interesting - the fingerprint sensor on iphones works ONLY when your finger is dry - not wet or oily, and even wiping it won't help if it's still a bit sweaty.

          • +1

@pizzaguy: Under-screen fingerprint readers use different tech (optical) than the iPhone home button ones.

            • -1

@ChrisInMelbourne: I get the apple's touchid is more secure then, but more of a pain, right?

              • +2

@pizzaguy: Downside to Apple's is it takes massive amount of screen real estate. Pixel is all screen on the front.

    • +1

The fingerprint sensor is no worse than my old OP7P, but definitely not as good as say Samsung. Works well enough the majority of time that I barely think about it. Really enjoying everything about the phone and only had a couple of one-off bugs (unresponsive after lock screen).

    • The fingerprint sensor/software is garbage

It works 99.9% of the time with me. Make sure you have the latest software update and maybe reconfigure your fingerprint? Even with dirty fingers it works.

      No notification light

Normal. Saves battery life. Pretty sure you can configure this.

On the plus side the battery life seems good.

I've experienced the opposite. Seems to have gotten better lately but not sold on it yet.

    • No issues with fingerprint so far but I've had issues with the calls dropping out after a few seconds. Bit annoying because I don't know when it will happen, especially since I do a lot of on call work…

    • +1

Never had a problem with the p7p finger print scanner on mine, unless yours is faulty maybe your finger needs an update?

      • I've come from a P6 to P7p, and the fingerprint sensor with the aid of face unlock is much better than P6. I've also added 2 more fingerprints of each finger/thumb and found this helps as well. I have increased sensitivity as I have a glass screen protector ontop.

      • I use an app called Notification light for Pixel - uses a led ring around the front facing camera cutout. I found this from a Sam Beckman video on Youtube. Works well enough and the pro version is very customisable.

After the update, battery life has improved for me.

      • I use an app called Notification light for Pixel

Interesting. Wondering what the benefit of using this app is if you have AoD as an option on your phone? I'd imagine with the app, if you have multiple notifications, it will only be able to use one colour, or would need to cycle through the different colours of the apps that you've selected to get notifications on it (which would be slower for a user to understand which apps have triggered a push notification)?

        • In my use case my phone is situated on a separate desk space/table out of infront line of sight, where AoD text/icon is quite hard to see clearly.
With notification led, I can turn my head occassionally to check and see which colour led is illuminating - if any.
At this stage I've only set it for apps of priority to illuminate one specific colour led.
I haven't tried with multiple colours but I believe it would illuminate whatever the latest incoming notification.
It's not perfect, but it helps in my use case.

    • For for 1139 yesterday thanks to additional 5% off via jb coupon which is expired now..Paid it via Gift card.

The watch ticks a lot of boxes, but I don't think it's quite there yet. Waiting for next generation

    • +3

exactly my thoughts, wish the next iteration is a bit bigger.

      • Agreed! I've been waiting for any kind of significant deal on the Pixel Watch, and while $100 off does bring it within the realm of competition with the Apple Watch7&8/Samsung GWatch5, it still feels too much like a 'First Gen and Forget' Google product.
If there is a second generation that addresses the glaring issues ie; Battery life, lack of sizes, and to my knowledge at least, no real advertising at all. If Google are actively listening to disappointed fans, id suggest keeping the circular aesthetic, its unique enough, and feels very high end. Just bring the second gen up to 2023 standards, not 2018.

    • I want a square/rectangular version

Any chance if we can stack with Unidays 10% off code? And if so can anyone be kind enough to provide a code..

    • My Unidays account has been expired, so can't help you. If you do end up getting a code, do let us know.

    • Can anyone confirm if this would work?

EDIT: No, discounts do not stack

    • +2

Annoyingly doesn't stack, so using the Unidays code only brings the price down to $899.10 for the P7 128GB.

Edit - this is the Unidays T&C for the code:

Offer cannot be combined with any other promotional codes, or with other bundle offers and instant rebates running at the same time. Discount will therefore be applied to the full product price (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price). Promotional codes may be redeemed only on Google Store for eligible items as allowed by applicable laws.

      • +1

Can confirm you get further 5% off with Unidays or Studentbeans code. Still better than nothing.

  • Will there be any special promo sale for Pixel 6a during Christmas/Boxing day? :)

  • I'm flying overseas end of Jan. Is it better to buy this at airport and claim TRS? Or can I buy from JB/Google store and still claim TRS?

    • +1

Yes, you can claim TRS even if you buy from JB/Google Store.

    • +3

if you buy at the airport (presumably after you clear immigration) the prices are already GST-free - so there's nothing to claim.

      • +1

And if you buy at the airport it's usually calculates more expensive then when you use a deal like here and get the GST back.

That's because as the rule of thumb, airport prices are higher even without GST.

    • +1

Download the TRS app. Fill in the details to generate QR code.
Make sure u carry phone in ur cabin luggage coz theyll ask u to show it.
      Carry physical receipts.
Show the QR code and wait for amount to be credited to your account.
      Generally takes 24-48 hours.

      • Can I use the phone before that?

  • Does Pixel Watch have irregular rhythm notifications feature?

  • Made an account to comment that I'm salty for having just bought the watch yesterday. Oh well, it's a great watch from the reviews I've seen, can't wait for it to arrive.

    • +3

If you purchased from Google Store, price match it https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/738690

      • +1

My man! Thanks for this! Quick chat with Google support and they confirmed I was eligible and processed a $100 refund.

  • Oooh. Hope Apple does something similar

    • Is this a baseless hope for Apple slashing their prices or a sarcastic joke at Apple implementing others' ideas after sometime?

  • Do we think prices will improve come boxing day sales? I'm not sure whether to purchase a 7 now or wait a week.

    • Don't deny yourself Googley goodness, just pounce on this deal, at there's no guarantees the deal is going to get better than this.

Seems like Google will price-match/refund the difference in price for Pixel 7 with that of Harvey-Norman.
Effective price for Pixel 7 256GB at HN- 978AUD - 100AUD HN AID = 978 AUD with some accessories
Effective price for Pixel 7 256GB at GoogleStore - 979AUD - 100AUD refund to your CC once device shipped = 878 AUD

Might be able to get it done for Pixel 7 pro 128 and 256GB as well. Here's the email i got:-
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Thanks for contacting Google Support.

This email is in reference with Price match for Pixel 7 .

I would like to inform you that your product is eligible for a price match , Kindly inform me over mail when your order gets shipped. We will initiate the price difference and it will get credited in the form of payment.

I appreciate your time and patience.

    • Are they refunding the $100 for HN GC or just the $1?

      • 100AUD back into my CC/mode of payment

        • You must be lucky, I reached out to Google to price match HN and they denied stating any coupon code or promotional GC cannot be price matched. They can only price match the base price.
