Apple Watch Series 6 44mm Silver Stainless Steel GPS + Cellular $549 + Delivery Only @ JB Hi-Fi

740

Hi all, I bought this exact watch a few months ago for this price, amazing watch! Stainless steel means it doesn’t scratch or break (as easily as aluminium).

Stainless steel means it doesn’t scratch or break.

Give it more than a few months mate :P

    • yeah, it definitely scratches!

      • Can always use the polishing cream.

    • +5

I have brushed against concrete wall and screen is intact. The stainless steel can be polished

    • -1

Months? Haha I have exact one, scratches out of the box but polishable

    • i thought stainless steel means it won't rust?

      • +5

The glass has the same material that is used in Rolex (sapphire) and that won’t scratch. The stainless steel gets scratches but you can polish it.

        • +1

Sapphire can get scratch too but not so easy.

        • +2

          Rolex … lol

Not all sapphire glass created equal

Apple's sapphire more prone to scratches than even Kyocera

Sapphire from Apple is subpar and inferior that scratches more easily compared to REAL sapphire glass

Source : That youtube guy that scratches / bends / burns / dismantles mobile phone

          • @dcep: That youtube guy is a rank hypocrite.Tell me when any Kyocera or Rolex can do this
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A72Ckh990j0

            • @dealsucker: The brand new product handles the abuse more effectively because all apple watches have oleophobic coating. They wear off over time then even the minimal impacts of every day use can cause scratches. So these reviews aren’t the accurate for longterm usage. I’ve been using both aluminium& stainless for the last 4 years, initially both screens handled abuse the same but the stainless case is very strong. For sapphire glass it doesn’t make a big difference for scratches but it doesn’t break as easily as the normal glass. BOTTOM LINE is it all comes down to how you use/care for it.

        • Lol, just don't drop the watch face on tile, my missus cracked that very sapphire glass.

          • @lgacb08: Wow, that’s sad! I can’t see me dropping it.
In the past I have had series 3 with a case (had watch for 3 years and still looked fantastic when I sold it) and an Apple Watch SE for around 10 months still with a case and also like new.

          • @lgacb08: Mine did the exact same thing, with her Gen 1.

        • -1

Lol it's no Rolex quality sapphire. Apple uses pretty cheap stuff that scratches far easier than it should, I'm surprised they are even allowed to claim its sapphire to be honest. I just replaced the crystal on my Rolex GMT and it cost 900 for the part alone. Just to give you an idea of what good stuff is worth.

          • -1

            @vodamerc: apple lolex sapphire. lol

thing is you equate 900 = quality is also another fallacy.

it's the same with diamond engagement rings, unless you are in the industry, you are pretty much not in the know.

          • -1

@vodamerc: LOL -> That's just Rolex markup/marketing you paid for. Not "quality "sapphire"

            • -1

@Maz78: Not exactly. I've tried heaps of 'high quality' aftermarket sapphires over the years and none of them come close to the Rolex ones.
So unless you've held multiple products in hand and seen the difference a good vs bad crystal can make (not just strength), then I think you just made that up.

      • ever left high grade stainless steel knives constantly wet before? :)

        it's just resistant…

    • stainless definitely can scratch and most electronics will break if you smash it hard enough.

i have the original apple watch ss, it's sitting at my desk as a clock. dropped many times, and screen was scratched when i dropped a drill bit on it. so ymmv.

    • Had this deal nearly a year ago. The watch is still as new after a year of everyday use. never had any protector. Had series 5 aluminum before and it was scratched all over after 3 months of use.

  • +8

Had the aluminium one, dropped it once when putting it on, screen obliterated. Not repairable. $600 gone.

Wasn’t going to get another one but bit the bullet and got a good deal on the stainless steel model.

Much better build. To be fair, haven’t dropped it like the old one, use a different strap now but have accidentally bashed it on a few things.

    Holds up.

    • +1

Series 7 here, dropped it on floorboard, tile, concrete so far. Actually held up surprisingly well…

Heart definitely skips a beat when it lands face down tho

    • +3

makes sense to get the steel if you're generally not careful with stuff and you refuse to use a case.
I've got a low profile case on my aluminium, don't notice it's there unless you look carefully. Have dropped it many times, no issues.

      • +1

Looking for suggestions on non noticeable case or invisible screen protector .. what do you have?

      • +1

I've got a more chunky Otterbox Exo Edge case on my Series 8 aluminium. Don't notice the weight but really like the look of it and it protects most of it - may add a screen protector at some stage.

Next time i'll probably shell out for an Ultra since there's not much difference between the SS and Ultra.

        • Yeah the ultra looks good on bigger wrists

        • That was my thought pattern.
Difference for me was coming from gshocks all my life so the alum/ss just felt so small 😂

    • Got my series 7 aluminium from the Amazon deal, if you care about scratches DO NOT WEAR it without a screen protector. I was at home all day and still managed to get two scratches, one really deep one, first real day of use :(
Now I have put on one of these: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09KRTPD97?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_p…
Downside you can't shower/swim in it because the water gets stuck in between

      • I don't have a link handy, but the 'tempered glass' ones that just do the screen, have that adsorption/adhesiveon that sucks the cover down onto the whole face of the watch and you don't have that water problem. I swim with my 3 on all the time and no issues (I did have one of the cases you linked, but hated the water in between screen and cover so went with the other type and it works well)

        • Thanks for the advice, I went with these cases on Amazon because what happened to my screen didn't give me much confidence in the aluminium casing LOL

      • there're Waterproof Apple Watch Screen Protector Case

        • Oh really, could you please link an example?
          Thanks

      • My wife uses these on her series 6. You can wash them and and dry them with a tea towel and snap them back on again. Perfect.

  • +1

Love me my apple watches-i used both the original and am current on an 'old' gen 4 that still receives os updates, is smooth af and holds up well in 2022, if you are already in the apple ecosystem why not? Its probably not a necessary purchase but its a damn fine one at that. Apart from the 'fitbit' like features and the ability to use many apps on your watch albeit at a lessor capacity, one thing I liked a lot is the ability to use it as a nightstand & alarm clock-it sounds useless when you can do the same thing on your phone but I like to set an alarm on both my phone and the apple watch so I will be waken up and not oversleep the alarm.

    • +6

Last night after a few Xmas drinks I didn't put my phone on the charger properly and it went fully flat overnight. But my Apple Watch knew the phone wasn't on and adopted my standard 730am iPhone alarm. Life saver!

  • Do you have any recommoned watch strap?

    • It's really up to you as to what suits your style and comfort.

The only genuine one I love is the blue/black Nike Sports Loop.

You can grab pretty damn close copies of the Ultra's Ocean/Alpine/Trail bands or stainless steel bands with a clasp - most you can find for $10-20 on Amazon and eBay.

      • I had an orange Alpine band delivered from Amazon just today for my Series 5. I can assure you for $15, the genuine Apple band isn't 10 times better quality.

  • Just go Ultra!

    • I mean thats like $800 more than this one…

      • +1

$500:) Factor in the 15% off gc, some slight movement with jb negotiation skills and a $10 perks haha.

        • +2

Guess I need to up my bargain game, I can only see them for $1300

          • +3

@deezus: That is RRP and you know we never touch RRP 😂😂

        • how many GC i can use in 1 transaction online?

    • +2

Big price difference, otherwise why not

      • Like I said in an above comment, a normal apple watch after wearing g-shock all my life felt so bloody weird!!

      • Sorry my comment above was not meant in a rude way hahaha. Just meant my comment above:)

    • +1

Had a look at ultra and it’s magnificent. But I can’t bring myself to buy a 1k+ watch that’s gonna go obsolete in 2-3 years .. maybe one day when there are 40% off… will pull the trigger without hesitation.

      • Yeah it’s definitely each to their own and I probably will get whatever comes out in a couple years anyway haha

    • Well, pretty hard to beat this series 6 aluminium GPS 44mm Nike edition @ $364 ($225 off original RRP)
      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/apple-watch-nike-series-6…

I mean, I would love an ultra but that series 6 is around one third the price with basically the same SIP..

      • +1

        You lost me at aluminium…

  • Lol.. BYO charger. I have the same model, not sure why it was shipped with a charger then

    • +1

I think they mean the plug in the wall? The lead should be included

  • +1

the 7 in much better due to the edge of screen.

  • I have a question about Apple Watches have recently got se 2021 editions one cellular and non cellular do these come with charger or just cable? Can you use your iPad or iPhone charger or does it need to be different.
If still need charger any recommendations and best prices out there nothing worse come Xmas time can’t charge them etc.

    • They have a specific charger: https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MLWJ3AM/A/apple-watch-…

The other option is a charging mat like so: https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/HPU92ZM/A/belkin-boost↑charge™-pro-portable-fast-charger-for-apple-watch but this is probably overpriced.

Or a wireless charing mat like so: https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/HPU72X/A/belkin-boost↑charge™-pro-3-in-1-wireless-charging-pad-with-magsafe but again, probably overpriced.

      • So how far back have they not supplied chargers for Apple Watches this is the 2021 did they not supply at all or before then?

Bit crazy you buy an Apple Watch and I think it comes with cable but no charger lol.

Different with the iPads and iPhone can use same stuff.
And have had iPads previous just need the plug part.
But Christ $45 for the charger so you can’t actually charge it out the box without these you listed?
I think that’s plain robbery to sell something without.
I know with an apple se from few years back was only cable not plug but as said that was not an issue as previously iPad come with cables and chargers.

Not everyone owns an Apple Watch before and had I known I might not have bothered as that means I need to get two of these or we share in this house the one cable.

Have they ever been on a deal and what was best price.

      • How do I send you a pm

      • Also likes of jb hifi for example why is there two types for same price what would I need?
Is this a fast and non fast charger that jb sells but both same price?

Apple Watch Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C (1m)

Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable 1m

      • Thought I look at unboxing on you tube and it seems these apple se 2021 comes with cable and charger or what some call puck.

Unless Australian models don’t come with this?

So am I right in saying that I don’t have to buy these I mentioned as it be a waste of money otherwise.
It’s very confusing as I read it comes with and read it requires a charger?

        • just speaking from my experience, it comes only with the charging cable with puck attached.

the wall wart 'adapter'/charger is not included.

          • @slowmo: It’s the charging cable and puck that’s unique right? The wall adapter/charger could be a wall adapter/ charger used from a iPad or iPhone right? Or is there something unique about the wall adapter/charger for this particular cable and puck?

My first thought was this never come with puck unique to the watch or cable but after watching vids they do.

So an iPad charger which I use for my iPhone as well does right or need another

            • @bwatt72: that's right. in the past i don't even use the chargers that comes with the iphones/watch/etc as i use those multi chargers (eg anker 60w) so just need to plug in the charging cable..

              • @slowmo: Yes I know you get all sorts of multi chargers etc but what’s stopping me using the plug that comes with iPad which I use with charge iPhone also ain’t it the cable that does the charging part which is provided.
I assume as this has I believe charging cable with puck I use the iPad plug I use on iPad and iPad so no further spending is needed unless they go faulty or break.

    • +1

To be absolutely clear, in the Apple Watch retail box you have included with the watch a wireless charging puck that has an attached cable with a USB-c plug. No wall charger included.

The cable attaches to any USB-c wall charger you might have, or USBc port on your computer or display. So any recent iPad charger, an iPhone charger, your generic brand charger, any multiport charger etc etc. as long as it has a USB-c port.

The watch controls charging rate to maintain battery and from memory it generally charges the watch at max 5W regardless of the rated output of the charger.

  • +1

Picked this up a few months ago, wears much better then the aluminium, that picked up a massive scratch, SS looks brand new to my old eyes!

  • Was doing a search and my iPad is 6th gen it comes with a 20 W USB-C power adaptor.

So if what I’m reading or if someone can confirm who owns the se 2021 Watch that if it comes with a puck and usb c cable and I can use my 6th gen power adapter.so no need for me to buy anything for them wife has iPad of same and can use her power adaptor.

All I would need to know is which of these will work with my power adaptor if I wanted a spare for myself or wife or just a spare should one of us need it ie the puck with cable part.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/apple-watch-magnetic-fast…

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/apple-watch-magnetic-char…

Are both compatible with my Apple Watch se2021 and my iPad 6th gen power adaptor and as mentioned already as same prices why the difference how they are named. As could easily buy the wrong one if wanted a spare.

    • +1

Yes you can. You can use any charger, or computer, or display, as long as it is a USBc port to plug the included cable in to. The Watch manages the power required for charging.

      • Cool and do you know the difference in them two links from jb what are they and why same prices.
Also do you own the se 2021 edition I’m not sure if it comes with puck and cable I assume all of them do it’s just the wall charger plug that’s not?
As it be very silly of apple to not even include the cable.
As my iPad is 6th gen then cable and plug has always been included and prior editions can’t say it still is today.
My phone se only had cable no plug so not a problem as use iPad plug.
And I assume that this se watch 2021 has the puck and cable included and again I just use my plug I use from iPad and iPhone.

        • You’re overthinking it all.

When you buy any Apple Watch, all you need to make it work is your existing iPad wall charger or any other usb charger.

Cable with magnetic puck is included in the Apple Watch box.

Cool and do you know the difference in them two links from jb what are they and why same prices.

One cable has a USB-C plug, the other has the (older, rectangular) standard USB-A plug.

More recent Apple devices generally include cable with USB-C plug in the box. So as long as you have a USB-C charger at home, you’re set

          • @andresampras: Cool as I read different things I thought it did not come with cable or puck which would be crap of apple and a money grab for sure having to buy extras.
After watching unboxing vids etc and seeing the puck and cable I then thought what else I was reading was wrong.
It was probably the wall charger that’s not included as did my iPhone SE from few years back.
My iPad is 6th gen but back then you got cable and wall charger not sure if still today with iPads.

But as it was in my head I needed the puck and cable which I thought I needed to get I noticed dick smith and Kogan from a seller offering the puck and cable for $29 down from $40 I thought that’s better than $45 as I would need two at least.
I even went and asked JB Hi-Fi to price match but found there was two types but worded differently.
And the reason I asked why the two are same price or same thing.

So if I wanted a spare puck with cable then the one that states usb c is the one needed with my set up correct?

I probably got them to price match the wrong cable from Kogan and dick smith which is more likely the usb a you mentioned, they not got back to me on it and it was a seller and not sold by Kogan or dick smith.
But as these come with cable and puck I don’t need them now.
Do these luck and cables often get reduced as $45 seems high for what it is.
The likes.of iPad and iPhones you can use same cables and wall charger.
But the puck and cable is probably unique to the watches.

            • @bwatt72:

But the puck and cable is probably unique to the watches.

              Correct.

But as these come with cable and puck I don’t need them now.

              Correct.

So if I wanted a spare puck with cable then the one that states usb c is the one needed with my set up correct?

I'm not sure what USB charger came with your iPad. If I were you I'd buy the watch, figure out what you have/need and then worry about spares etc.

here's some info on USB-A vs USB-C; note the smaller USB-C plug (and associated socket):
              https://www.tomsguide.com/news/usb-c-vs-usb-a

              • @andresampras: Bloody hell wife and I just opened our Apple Watch’s up and the usb c cable is smaller than I was thinking it be.
In fact I don’t think I have anything with usb this small.

Our iPad wall plugs must be usb a as much bigger so the plan on using the iPad wall plugs is no good.

So looks like I need two usb c wall plugs to charge the watches which is annoying, I was aware there be no wall socket supplied but thought I was all good with iPad ones.

So any deals going for official apple ones or others that are just as good.
What part does the work the puck with cable or the wall socket.
As I always think to have official is always best but maybe not lol.

          • @andresampras: I must have usb a iPad plugs as this cable with puck is smaller and must be usb c.

Now the hunt is on for usb c plugs more cost should bloody be supplied which I knew was not but don’t own anything this small.

Any official apple deals on the wall sockets as probably best to get offical?

I take the puck and cable is the charging part the plug is just that.

            • @bwatt72: Congrats on your Apple Watches :)

Cable and puck are merely the conduit; the wall charger is what converts mains power into DC power suitable for charging your devices.

              1. You could buy new chargers with USB C outputs, or…
              2. you could get a single charger with multiple USB C and/or USB A outputs, or…
              3. You could get adaptors so you can keep using your existing iPad chargers. (see link below for an example of option 3. Reviews look good but I don’t have one so this is not a personal recommendation)
                https://amzn.asia/d/87o85c2
              • @andresampras: Yes I’m starting to wonder if apple changed to usb c some time after iPad 6th gen as that’s what we still use here and still fine.
Will upgrade them in future but work fine so no need.
iPhone is just an apple se this never came with wall socket but I believe came with cable with usb a as it fits the iPad charger.

I did see pics of the usb c and usb a to compare and I was sure usb c was not what I had.
now I definitely know I don’t own anything with usb c.

I thought it was always best to stick to apple plugs and cables?

You can get various wall plugs but is it comparable or have issues with doing a charge etc.
I seen your pic if something that was usb c and a but I’m not sure if that’s correct.
Probably is but seems expensive for what it is and would there be issues with ii, im sure I seen smaller ones but again im not sure if affects charging etc.

I could buy belkin or other brands but they are almost as much as apple one so maybe pointless.

I might just have to bite the bullet and go grab couple of apple ones but annoying apple do this crap you already spend plenty on there devices and yet need to go buy wall plugs that should be supplied.

Maybe if my iPad was more recent or my iPhone there would be no need for wall plugs but in saying that does apple no longer supply and wall plugs to any of there devices or has this changed again recently.

But sucks all same I need to go grab a few to charge them up.

                • @bwatt72: Doesn’t have to be Apple but since you’re not familiar with this stuff I think for peace of mind you should stick with original.

It’s a pain to have to buy extra stuff, but think of it as an investment; USB C is already very common and is becoming more and more prevalent, so chances are you can use your imminent USB C charger purchase(s) for future devices too

  • Anyone’s shipped yet?

  • nops.. just chatting with support and they are saying, it needs to be cancelled
