  • Well I'd assume that bonus 50$ voucher is gone so doesn't seem that worth to me. $310ish min but still like $19 off the Amazon price

    • +2

Voucher is not gone till 11th nov

      • The T&Cs say "between 2/11/2022 - 6/11/2022" though?

        • +1

          Here shows 7-11/11

          • +1

@Dienk: Super confusing, they have two different sets of dates for what looks like the same promo lol.

            • @MHLoppy: Indeed

              • @Dienk: Also just buying the 5700X without anything else ain't above 400$ in the first place so what else would you splurge on? A motherboard if they're prices are decent?

                • @AndrewMTG: There are 2x8gb ddr4 3600mhz and 1tb SSD for 89 each before 11% discount. Those are good deals.

                • @AndrewMTG: And dont forget to reedem the uncharted game If you get the 5700x

                  • @Dienk: Will do, so I heard it's uncharted 4 on PC or smth right? And it would be hard to run or smth cuz high quality remake of ps4 version?

                    • @AndrewMTG: That is the whole Collection. All games are great. If you have a middle range GPU you will be fine.

                      https://www.amd.com/en/promotions/ryzen-uncharted-bundle

                      • @Dienk: It’s uncharted 4 and the dlc expansion which is basically another game with female protagonists. Sadly not 1,2 and 3 which are better overall games IMHO. Still worth it. But will bring any pc to its knees. Graphically superior to playing it on a PS4 Pro.

                        • @beyondtool: That is true. I confused with the PS4 one.

                        • @beyondtool: Lost legacy is still on my list to play, but I preferred Uncharted 4 over the first 3.

                          • @filmer: Same here, I played all the uncharted games on release and found 4 to have the best gameplay and the most interesting story.

                      • +1

@Dienk: Got an rx 6600 xt + i5-9600K setup ATM so looking for amd to improve my 1% lows and better performance+ SAM/ReBar

  • +2

I promised myself I'd get this once it hit sub 300,now I'm questioning my decision. Upgrading from 1700

    • +5

Same mate… Do we just wait for the 5800x3d now? Or if we do buy this is it going to be $250 next week… The OzBargain dilemma.

      • $339 is the new price from just a couple of weeks ago, seems unlikely to hit $250 (25% discount on a CPU retail price is rare).

Personally though I'm holding out for somewhere discounted and with Uncharted bundled with it, because I was going to buy that anyway.

    • +2

Do it. The single core performance improvement is phenomenal.

    • The x3d is on sale at scorptec if you can budget for it. But yes this will be a huge upgrade from the 1700

    • I went from a R7 1700 to a 5600x and huge jump in performance, like its noticeable in the day to day use (as a gamer).
Looking at the benchmarks of 5700x and the like vs new gen, defs worth getting 5th gen ryzen now that prices are coming down.

    • +1

If it helps, with delivery its not sub 300 yet

    • Wait for black friday then decide.

  • +2

Is it worth upgrading from a 3100?

    • +2

Depends on what you're doing with your PC.

Expect around a 40% increase for single threaded work, and as high as 120% for multithreaded.

Then again, if you're gaming and you're already maxing out your GPU, you may not see much increase at all.

  • -1

I think the Intel 13th gen are better value ?

    • +3

      And more expensive as well

    • +3

Maybe. But there are plenty of people with older, slower AMD CPUs that are eyeing these as upgrades. Much cheaper than buying a new mobo and CPU, like they'd have to do for intel 13th gen (or AM5).

      • Intel 13th gen works with previous gen mobo and ram.

    • 5700X vs that Intel 12400F that comes with COD MWII which I was planning to buy? which one better plus motherboard cost (probably use old ddr4 kit I have)

    • +2

This is an upgrade path for those with existing am4 setups I think

  • The 5700X can also be used on a b550 mobo with a bios update. Can usually get the computer shops online to flash it for a fee if you're not confident doing that yourself (people can sometimes brick their mobo by a fault or doing it wrong). Normally costs about $30 to do so and can also improve RAM compatability issues too.

    • -5

By doing it wrong? How? It's literally idiot proof. The BIOS checks the file before it flashes it so you can't use the wrong file. The only way to mess it up is to turn it off or pull the power cord out during the BIOS flash where there's a big warning saying "DON'T TURN OFF YOUR PC DURING THE BIOS FLASH". And if you're that dumb, you deserve to brick it and should stick to finger painting. It's no different to updating a phone or console. BIOS flashing being difficult or unsafe is a complete myth. Don't waste $30 on a service that can be done in a few minutes yourself. Stop peddling paid services and false information.

      • +12

Calm down dude lol. Bios can be updated without ram, cpu, nothing…. not even a monitor. If your rig is setup and flashing to new bios, ever heard of a brownout during summer? Not everyone is tech-savvy mate. We've all been beginners and learners at one point, even you. Share the advice, teach, pass on the knowledge and not ridicule people. Someone might already have a b550 mobo and simply wanna upgrade the cpu. Some things might be a bit technical and confidence might be a factor. Was saying there are options to make a b550 comp with 5700X

        • -1

So what the stores do something magical that the person at home can't? They put the file on a USB stick and flash it same as a home user. There's nothing complicated to the BIOS update process. If you're so worried about a brownout during the BIOS flash, don't leave your house during the day. You're more likely die in a car accident.

          • +1

@Vita85: I would say most stores would use a UPS.

            • +6

              @snoopydoop: Should? Yes.
              Would? Hmm…

              • +2

@ItsMeAgro: Well, I suppose if there is a brownout it'd be on them to supply a new board and the customer wouldn't be affected by their bad practice of not using a UPS. So on the customer's end, the risk is the same either way.

I agree the risk is small, but I know some stores offer it for free (Umart, not sure what others), soi I think there's no harm.

          • @Vita85: It might depend on the motherboard. Some motherboards are fussy when it comes to picking the USB stick. It is easier to just buy one that works if required, rather than drive to a computer store with a PC. There are also some motherboards that can read BIOS files from SSD. Some can even do BIOS update in Windows.

If the motherboard has BIOS flashback, then it is even better. However, once again, some boards can be fussy with USB stick when doing BIOS update.

B550 boards are generally pretty easy to update BIOS.

            • @netsurfer: Yes they are easier these days due to more mobo's coming with a flash-back feature…. something the old boards do not. Some new people don't even know what a bios is and on a first build or something… whatever. Was simply saying there is a service for these things if you're not sure as a b550 for a 5700X needs a bios to work and they are a good matched pair if you're not gonna fully utilize a X570 board.

              • +2

                @teddiebear: Problems are:

                • if the person currently has a B550 and that board doesn't have BIOS flashback, then that person should perform a BIOS update prior to CPU upgrade.
                • driving to the store with a PC doesn't seem to be that pleasant. If that person has no tech savvy friend or family members, then I guess there is no choice.
                • $30, that's not how we OZBer works. We are more bargain than pay for complete care.
          • +1

@Vita85: We all can't be as skilled and as good as you mate. Pinky finger

      • Finger painting! lol well said

Worth upgrading from 3600 to 5700x?

    • Want to know this too but from a 2700. Mostly want to play physics based and asset heavy games like Tabletop Simulator and TABS (totally accurate battle sim)

    • +1

I did an upgrade from 3600 to 5600x and it was noticeable difference in games - mainly the minimum frame rate was higher and overall gaming experience in games was smoother - especially in titles like cyberpunk2077. Depends if you are playing games or for productivity…

    • +1

Do you want it mainly for gaming at 1080p?

If so you might get a slight bump in smoothness (min FPS and average FPS). Nothing dramatic though.

That may or may not be worth the money/bother to you.

If you play at 1440p or 4k, very unlikely to be a human-detectable difference.

  • Any specials on Strix X670 MB?

  • Well nuts, just picked up a 5600X for $255 for a new build. Wondering if I should return it and grab this bad boy now.

    • Should if you can for sure

    • +5

      I'm surprised you didn't get the $199 5600

  • I thought AMD lower their price for 7000 series? Is it only applicable in certain areas? 7950x is selling for around 850 AUD in China atm

    • They did lower it barely lmao, and in China it's just a sale not full lower

  • 5700x worth $100 more than 5600? Supposed to be only <10% more performance

    • If you are asking that question, then the answer is regrettably no for you.

BUT, if $100 is loose change and having 5700X will make you happier, then might as well.

      • Or if the extra cores help with your work/productivity

        • The *700X CPUs are mostly numb our brains CPUs.

5600X gives 3700X a good run, 7600X gives 5700X a good run. Then, there are the *900X *950X ones which are really better suited for high core count workload.

  • Is it worth upgrading from a 3900x to a 5700x? Just thinking that as a budget upgrade to maximise the service life of the system at a moderate cost.

    • Probably 5800x3d instead

    • Not really, will just be around 15% faster for games while being slower for production software due to lower amount of cores.

However if you don't mind you can sell your 3900x on ebay afterwards. Looks like it still sells for around 300-400 bucks there for used so could be a basically free upgrade.

  • Shipping to regional WA: $30.30. Disappointing, a small satchel is ~ $10 or something.

    • I messaged then complaining that. They asked me what I would like to buy so the can work something out.

I believe they are overcharging on shipping to cover the voucher lol

  • Nice price - got mine for $300 a couple of months ago after using a giftcard to bring it down form 370

  • Thank you! I'd been hanging out for a ~$300 discounted price for a while.
