  • Aud$20 to me

    • Yeah something is a bit wierd. I'm getting $20 too. Thing is though when I try to get the 3 year one it comes up as $39.25 in one browser (+VPN) and $43 in a different browser (-VPN).

I use one browser with no VPN and no extensions to make things easier for cashback.

It added 3 years to my current subscription for $39.25

The rest is taxes. Its showing $18.18 for me plus $1.82 taxes

  • +4

    3 year subscription for $43.99.

    • Was thinking of getting the 10 devices for 3 years for $45.14 but the automatic start of the subscription is a bit of a deal breaker as I don't think it'll tack onto my current subscription. I only just got my 5 device subscription a month or so ago. I could just get the 5 device one and extend my current subscription I guess. I don't think I'll need 5 devices just yet but will want it eventually.

      • There's another deal that might interest you as it starts from day off activation.

        https://www.dealarious.com/bitdefender-total-security-5-devi…

        • Thanks for the link but I already got the 3 year 5 device option from here. I don't really need the 10 device one for a while.

      • I had a similar problem a few months ago, had the 5 device subscription, but wanted to purchase 10 device sub. I contacted bitdefender support who converted my 5 device 1 year subscription to a 10 month 10 device subscription. Then I purchased a 10 device subscription and extended my sub.

They wanted me to just have w subscriptions at first but I siad that wasn't going to work for me

        • If you speak to support, they will deduct 2mths with to convert it to a 10 device

      • You should be able to turn off the automatic renewal and add your "10 devices for 3 years for $45.14" activation code once your "5 device subscription" runs out from memory. I did this couple of years ago going from 5 devices to 15. I think my activation code was sitting around for over a year.
I did a quick look on the web and found this for you regarding the activation code expiry date. Never expires.
        https://community.bitdefender.com/en/discussion/89393/how-lo…
Can someone jump in and confirm they still send out activation codes after purchase?

        • Just bought. Seems the subscription starts immediately. I've emailed support to see if I can suspend my subscription.

        • You may be right but I already went ahead with the 5 device one. I'll look again in just under 4 years time. Who knows, may jump ship again if something comes up like it did with Kaspersky. Still have an ongoing subscription but I uninstalled that and came over to Bitdefender.

Microsoft Defender is good enough and built in to Windows 10/11

Truly agree BUT what is it called……people who wash their hands 5 times, touch the light switch 3 times……I have that I think, I need 3 antivirus software to keep my $10 Dogecoin wallet safe. This is buying mental peace for someone like me.

Third-party anti-viruses will usually disable Microsoft Defender(or should). If you have multiple anti-viruses running simultaneously it can negatively effect their individual effectiveness.

        • I was joking but I do prefer Bitdefender and this was good timing as my license expired last month. I wasn’t joking about the peace of mind part though even though Windows Defender is great.

Kaspersky is also very good, and free.

@darkly: Just want to clear up something. Kaspersky does indeed have a free variant of their Anti-Virus: https://www.kaspersky.com.au/free-antivirus

It's directly there to combat BitDefender, Avast and AVG's (basically Avast with a different skin) free variants.

The only sole reason I use other anti-viruses over Kaspersky, is that I don't particularly want to become part of some Russian state botnet in future. Kaspersky is an excellent detector of viruses, but it's just not worth the risk imo to deal with a Russian company. The Americans, Italians, Dutch and Germans pulled the plug on using Kaspersky for a reason. Also I'm not saying Kaspersky is even inherently bad as an actor. It's entirely possible that Kaspersky is completely unaware of what's going on with their software all the time, as in, maybe the Russian Government has some sort of backdoor via a hack of some sort or remote access. Who knows?

So… yes, all governments spy and create malware, I'm well aware, not saying any one product is better than the other. But Kaspersky to me just isn't worth the risk, especially with how Russia is acting right now. 10 years ago, I wouldn't of minded so much to use Kaspersky, but now I'm just a little more cautious.

Don't forget you also have companies like Avast selling user's data and collecting it. So yeah, pretty much I wish Windows Defender was actually good, but even then… Microsoft also collects data on you so… you can't win at all pretty much.

        in Russia virus deletes you

      It guy here, absolutely not.

      It doesnt have:

      Phishing protection
      Infected website protection (scripts, etc)
      Browser password blocking
      Dns filtering
      Ransomware protection

      • +2

It actually has a lot of that built into Defender (SmartScreen).

I bought this years ago and found it intrusive. Constant pop-ups asking you to buy their other products. After the license expired I uninstalled and went with Defender - never had a problem since.

    • I've had it for half a year now, never gotten a single popup. Maybe its different now?

    • The popups asking if you want to buy VPN or their password vault can be turned off in settings.

      • That's the desktop version?

    • +2

I had it for three years on several devices and don't recall a single popup.

    • I only got all the popups on the free version - once I bought total security on a good sale it was better -maybe you didn't activate the upgrade properly

  • Truly a useful post. Thanks OP.

Just use Defender. It's not 1995 anymore. Microsoft invest millions into cyber. These products are more virus than antivirus.

    • +2

Microsoft invest millions into protection for business products.

The free products are better than nothing but don't come close to one of the top third party av solutions.

      • +1

Third party vendors in this space deploy dark patterns and intrusive UX to stay seen and upsell or cross sell.

Go with vendor managed and you have less incentive to be a bad actor and more incentive to build trust in the core product.

Me, I use Linux. Figured I had to mention that because it’s like being vegan or doing CrossFit 🤣

    • +1

Hit the nail on the head.

Windows defender + uBlock origin + 2FA (for extra peace of mind use a browser/password manager that encrypts all your passwords in their vault, like Vivaldi).

If you want more even security download/run your pirated games in a Vmware.

Anti-viruses/"security suites" are just taking the piss, system resources and your money.

Thanks OP, my bitdefender license expired last month and I felt naked with only Windows Defender (as good as it is, I like having peace of mind). Bitdefender often comes out on top in tests too.

  • Does this AV work on Optus and Medibank?

    • +6

Unfortunately it doesn't protect against negligence and incompetence

    • yES.

Got it for 10 devices and 3 years for $46.65. Thanks OP.

  • Buying antivirus software when there's free antivirus included is like buying bottled water…it sure does have a fancy label

    • +1

It’s not just AV anymore, it’s a total security package, hence the name Total Security.

  • Thanks OP. Stacked 3 years onto my subscription ;)

  • Thanks OP. Purchased 2 1-year extensions for $20 each before I realised the same code offered better yearly cost for longer subscriptions so then purchased a 3-year subscription. I used the 2 1-year subscription codes to successfully extend but then with the 3-year code it didn't offer me the option to extend my current sub. I contacted support and they advised you can't extend your subscription yourself to more than 5 years (mine would have been 6.5 years)! Support said they can do it at their end but you need to activate the new subscription then they will merge it for you. Waiting for support to do that now so fingers crossed!

  • Remember to disable Windows Defender from the command prompt if you decide to get Bitdefender and believe that the Defender features are already being accounted for elsewhere.

    • +1

Win…does it automagically. 1990's were a long time ago.

      • There's a reasonable difference between turning it off via the toggle in Defender and having the feature with its assets disabled.

  • I had this and it eventually caused my email to crash and they couldn't fix it. Cancelled it and got no refund….grrr. Went back to Nortons and should never have gone to Bitdefender..

    • +1

Just use Defender. It's there. It works. You don't need something to be flashing at you all the time telling you how many things it's stopping.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Managed to get 3 years added to my subscription for 43.99 compared to 263.99! Great deal 😗!

  • Thanks OP, the code is still working as of 2.20pm this afternoon - purchased the 3 year subscription which i added onto my current subscription.

When you enter the redemption code in Bitdefender Central, it gives you an option of extending your current subscription or redeeming the code as a new subscription.

3 years for $43.99 is a great deal.

  • +1

For some reason this was showing as expired but just tested and is still working, so removed the expiry.

  • Just bought two, a one year and a three year. Thanks OP.
