YouTube Premium: Individual TRY ₺29.99 (~A$2.57), Family TRY ₺59.99 (~A$5.14) @ YouTube Turkey (VPN Required to Sign Up)

8080

If you tried to sign up to a Youtube Premium Family via India, you probably hit a dead end, with most cards ending up declining due to this reason and this reason. Well if that is the case, hopefully Youtube Premium via Turkey will be a breeze (albeit a slightly higher cost monthly), especially for those who have Google One via Turkey already (confirmed working for me, you will not need to enter a new address - took me like 10 seconds).

Google is increasing the prices for Youtube Premium in several countries worldwide, including USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Japan etc. This means Argentina is no longer the cheapest and most OzBargainers will be migrating from Argentina other countries.

For price references, Youtube Premium via Australia is $14.99/mth for individual plans & $22.99/mth for family plans

Notes

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

I'm glad people realise who I am and I'm not some irrelevant Ozbargainer ;)

      • +5

I would like to stress that this is an inclusive community, and all OzBargainers are relevant. Yes — even the irrelevant ones

          • +1

@Techie4066: Maybe. I personally prefer the label irreverent to irrelevant

      • its keep saying , we couldnt verify your country, i am using turbo vpn and turkey as location. i tried so many ways, i even tried few other vpn's , but the currency in youtube shows Canadian dollar. this is the only one showing turkey utube , but in premium membership, keep saying couldnt verify location

      • Close.

      • I smell pen _ _

      • I smell penises

    • whatdoes it smell like?

  • +5

@I Smell Pennies, step 5 still says ‘Indian’…

    • +1

Thanks so much for letting me know, just fixed it :P

      • +2

        Thank you for supporting us!

  • +1

    Which VPN to use? :I

    • I used ExpressVPN, but previously I've used NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), Windscribe and they all worked

    • SurfShark works fine too :)

    • +1

Getflix if you have a lifetime subscription

  • +2

Think its cheaper if I move my family to India instead?

    • +1

If your card is accepted, it's a better deal. See here

Otherwise, most of our cards have declined so this will be our only choice

    • +4

Cheaper to use Adblock. I know some here worry about ma and pa Google not getting their ad money, but I think they will be okay.

      • I always watch in Brave browser so I'm debating if it's worth the money just to use the YouTube app instead and also request songs on my Google speakers.

        • prob need screen on? One of the other main benefits of YT premio

          • @G-rig: Nope, no ads and screen can be off using Brave so the benefits are minor but possibly just worth it.

            • @TheKLocker: Sounds alright, was easier just paying $1.25 a month for premium though (now $4)..

            • @TheKLocker: Wait, how are you playing with the screen off on brave? Is that on PC ?

      • But also get benefit of apple music and no ads on television, ipad & mobile and dont need the YT screen to be active.
        Very small price to pay.

        • I pay for Apple Music already, but if you don't then it might be better value.

  • I need some more guidance on how to do this. Any one able to help?

    • Where are you getting stuck?

      • +3

        In the washing machine.

      • Don’t know what to do at all. Getting a vpn trial and then?

        • +1

A VPN (in this context) allows you to connect to a computer (called a server) in another place that can make it look like your device is in that place; If you connect to a VPN in Turkey and then open YouTube it'll look to YouTube like you're in Turkey and if all goes well, they'll charge you the cheap Turkey rates.

Once you're signed up to your VPN service and have the app installed you'll need to work out how to use it to connect to Turkey, remember that not all VPN providers have servers in Turkey so choose one that does. I pay to use ProtonVPN but I'm not sure if their free service offers Turkey servers.

Once connected to a VPN server in Turkey you can follow the excellent directions by the OP under 'Instructions (No Current Subscription)'

      • does not work for me either, using vpn, tried with multiple accounts, including a newly created one, but the payment profile keeps getting suspended, even tried paying using a digital wise card.

  • Thanks. Will update from Argentina.

On a side note, it’s (profanity) (profanity) the price they charge some countries like Australia for an identical service…

    • +5

It's all about price discrimination and maximising revenue and producer surplus

Adult vs kids movie/theme park/plane tickets are another great example

    • +9

The salary they get in Turkey is actually (profanity) (profanity)

you're privileged to live in a a very rich country. Be grateful for what you have

    • +1

Did you also get the price hike from google argentina?

      • +1

Yeah. It’s crazy they’re increasing it to 3 x original price.

    • +1

Google Argentina inflation history and have a read. It's a wild ride over so many years. Current annual inflation rate of 83% and that's just scraping the surface of the story. During the observation period from 1980 to 2019, the average inflation rate was 215.4% per year.

  • Looking to join someones family

    :)

    • +9

You can join mine if your family can take my kids!

  • +4

Great timing, the Argentina family account just increased from ARS 179.00/month to ARS 699.00/month (about ~$2 AUD to $7 AUD)

    • +15

Haha. Why do you think these deals have suddenly become more popular and on front page on OzB?

  • tried 3 different cards, ING, BOQ and Westpac all decline :(

    • Your transaction can't be completed. To continue this transaction, secure your account. Learn more about securing accounts [OR-REH-04]

I used Revolut - worked first time. You need to get Revolut or Wise, always need an alternative to an old school bank

      • Does Revolut have a yearly fee? How easy is it to get one?

        • No yearly fee, prepaid debit card.

          • @[Deactivated]: Can you keep loading or is it a one time use? How much do they charge?

            • +2

@Brakus: Keep loading, zero charge. It's a fantastic service.

            • @Brakus: Also has a disposable cc number for one time use. Comes out of the one account.

      • I tried using wise, did not work for me, same issue [OR-REH-04]

      • Just tried to use it, and the money has been taken out of my Revolut balance but Youtube doesn't recognise that I have paid for premium. Did you expect much wait time for it to go through?

        • I used Revolut card to pay for mine last weekend.
Got YouTube email confirmation pretty much straight away after payment went through.

          • @Whatisthatvelvet: My payments ended up getting reverted. I got it working in the end, i had to enable 'Desktop version' of the website in order for it to work properly, and when i did, it went through giving me Premium almost immediately. Im assuming it got hung on the confirmation page and wasn't going through properly.

    • I just used a Westpac Altitude credit card and it worked on the first try.

  • +2

Which vpn to use ?? It's not in the first line so I'm extremely confused

    • you can use shurfshark

      • +1

I was just speaking for our late friend, DisabledUser388768, from the similar previous post

      • Why am I getting a UK IP when I connect to India or Turkey? Keep getting Pounds…..

        • Turkey should work. I just used it. Only India have issue because it only showed virtual location.

        • Use Windscribe VPN and an incognito browser tab.

    • I’m sorry I scared off the other user, so I put it on the last line this time

  • Show as 23.99 pln or about 7aud

  • Thoughts on using this on my main youtube account? I heard that people were getting recommended Indian vids when using Premium via India

    • +1

Never had any recommendations out of the ordinary when I started using Argentina Premium

      • Music originally started recommending Turkish artists to me, bit over time it's normal

        • +1

If you enter settings in the YouTube Music app and choose "Improve your recommendations", you can pick some of your favourite artists from a menu. This should instead give you western music recommendations and fix it up right away

  • +1

Are people signing up with their main account and paying annually, or creating a family account and linking their main account?

Is there any risk using my main account?

    • +3

I use my main acc, no problems here. Been doing so for years

      • Same

      • I just got a yearly Turkish subscription, all paid.
can i now change my country in youtube to australia again?

      • I heard you need to VPN back that countries every 6 months to renew ? Is it true ?

    • I was using my main account. One thing you need to take note of is that your play store apps will be limited to whatever region you change your billing to. You can just create another google account for "Australian" apps though.

      • what does youtube subscription have to do with the play store?

        • They use the same billing backend. If you change your country to something else this will also change the play store one.

          • @Jhonka: Most apps won't be a problem even they may not show up in the search, may have to find the app link to install it. Some app have region restriction will have problem installing it, like stocard.

          • @Jhonka: Delete and create Australia profile can fix this ?

            • @adpaholic: No didn't work

              • @superforever: what if you just switch back to Australian youtube premium for a month and then cancel? That should reverse your location but you lose out on the premium. Alternatively just use iPhone haha

    • For family plan, I used a different account and same for the family sub-accounts. Not really for any particular reason other than 'just in case'. I don't use any other Google services and neither do my family members, so this method works fine for us.
