[NSW] Red Island Extra Virgin Olive Oil 4 Litre $22.99 @ Costco, Auburn (Membership Required)

150

Seems like they’re almost price matching the per litre price with the 3L on sale at Coles. Was $38.99 at Costco.

if Costco's price ends at .99, that means it's their normal price.

Are you telling me instead of going to three Coles stores last night trying to find stock, I could have just gone to Costco at any time because this is their regular price? Now I feel like an idiot.

Anyone know if Costco has Cobram?

    • Also at costco this used to be $38.99

    • it seems like the new "normal"

  • I wanted to go check out my local costco this weekend had 2 questions maybe someone here could answer

1.Can you go look in the store without membership ?

2.Do you think the $60 memebership is worth it in savings ?

I think you need to go with a mate, no card no entry or you can sneak in if you are stealthy…
It ain't worth it if you are single and don't eat much, everything is huge in portions size here.
If you buy lots of petrol then it's worth it, you will make it up easy with the saving most weeks.

      • Sneaking in won't work because they also scan ur card when U check-out ;(

Yeah i wasn't implying i wanted to go in and shop and dodge the membership i was more curious to just go take a walk around see what they have and size up if its worth paying $60 a year to shop there since i've never been to 1

        • he is only going in for a "look".

I go many times to Costco and not buy anything…

Not sure if they still have it, but I think they used to have a guest pass available which allows you into the store but you can't buy anything.

Whether it's worth it to you would depend on how much you buy, what kinds of products, and how often. Personally, I don't go to Costco all that often, and a lot of items don't seem that cheap when you compare them to the sale price at the regular stores. In saying that, there's a bit of convenience there. One thing I've noticed is that even if you go for a small shop, the bill ends up being quite a bit because each item typically can be $20-30 because you're buying large quantities.

It can get extremely busy though so it takes a long time to browse the store and checkout on some days.

    • the membership saves me heaps on petrol alone.

I am making a price comparision spreadsheet for coles vs costco, and costco is is mostly cheaper though larger in quantity that you gotta buy. Example, OMO active clean washing powder is $12/kg at coles with purchase unit of 2kg, where as in costco it's $5.5/kg however with purchase unit of 10kg.

Of course there are items that you can simply buy at coles, in my case medium rubish bag coles brand works for me and it's cheaper compared to what's in costco, brown onion sold in huge quantity at costco go bad before i could use them all, hence not worth the saving. You just gotta work out your math.

My suggestion is to spend money for 1 year membership, and in that one year shop and compare prices between the 2 retailers and see which suit you.

  • At least they have stock. not much available in Coles in Sydney from what the call centre told me and cant even order online at the moment. That will depend on your delivery area though

    • I have ordered the oil online from Coles. I have received substitute Monini 3l oil which is of same price as Red Island as there was no stock available. I can confirm there is stock available in Docklands Costco.

  • Compared to Coles this week specials, it looks cheaper. 😄

Take advantage, this is a price drop at Costco, so that it is cheaper than the special at Coles 3 L for $17.50. It will be removed next Wednesday when the special is over at Coles.

  • The normal price at Costco (last week) was $38.99 for 4L @ Costco Ringwood and Costco Docklands

  • I just checked. Its on specials at Coles

    $17.50 for 3L
$0.58 per 100 ml vs 0.57 of Costco.

I always check the per unit price that is listed at the bottom of price tag in small font. Otherwise it is hard to compare between two products having different weights.

    Good luck with stocks though.

  • The Red Island brand is owned by Cobram, and is marketed as their 2nd tier product. Unless you're a big EVOO snob like me you probably won't notice a difference.

    • Someone said Cobram and Red Island are made in the same factory, but Cobram is made using their own olives, while Red Island is made using olives from different farms.

If I'm only using it to cook with and not to consume raw, would it make much difference? Cobram carries a bit of a premium in price.

      • I pretty much use EVOO for salads and pasta, so can taste a slightly less peppery taste to the Cobram Classic EVOO.

I can't fault Red Island though, it's a decent EVOO and miles better than the EVOO "Blends" from Spain.
