  • can you use discount gift cards to buy this?

  • +13

Cheaper on Voda’s site after CB.

    • any link please ? thanks

    • +1

$150 minus 25% cashback (assuming it pays fairly quickly)

      • +1

$125 not 150. Never mind that’s voda price… same price if u get 10% off woolies check out

        • +2

How do you get 10% at Woolworths checkout?

  • +1

Can I throw this in a tablet just for data?

    • +1

      i dont see why not.
used to use the optus one for data

    • +2

Yes. During sign-up, there is an option to selected "data only" (didn't click on it).

    • +4

I did this the last time they had this special. When you activate it, you have to nominate calls/texts/data or just data. If you select data only, they give you 250gb data but no calls and text. If you want the flexibility of using it in a phone during the year and think 150gb is enough, nominate mobile phone use.

      • Anyone know if it can still receive calls even though only just data set?

        • +1

You won’t be able to make/receive calls

        • Set it for whatever..i just used a $30 40gb sim

When i signed up, the data only was 30gb, sominchose voice plan & got 40gb.. popped it in my modem & it works fine.

Optus are buggers as you need to use a different APN to the default.

    • +1

You can but just make sure to read the terms and conditions to know exactly what you're getting.

You're probably okay with this one but I chose data only on a previous deal and I didn't get any of the bonus data included in the deal because I had chosen the data option instead of data+calls. Vodafone Customer Service wouldn't budge either.

    • Whenever I activate for data I first check Vodafone for current data only And data plus calls to see

what gives most data V longest expiry for you nominated re-charge amount as usually at activation

Voda allows you to activate either. Often you get more data with the calls plus data offer, but as a commen

says below, with this deal there is difference of 100GB which is significant if no use for calls (even

accounting for the infinate data as slower depending where you are).

Edit: IMPORTANT even if activating Vodafone prepaid sims for mobile phone ( calls and data ),

you can still put this in a portable wifi modem and use for data.

      • Just read this on another Voda Prepaid comment taken from the Voda website:

Hi shadowarrior, the Critical Information Summary says "Tethering permitted to personal devices only, but must not be used in a modem or as a substitute for a home internet service."

As someone who works in a retail store, I have never heard of someone's Vodafone service being cancelled because they used it purely as a hotspot, but it is technically against the terms and conditions of use as per the Critical Information Summary.

But really not sure they at all police and/or monitor this currently.

Wonder if officework will reduce theirs as well…

    • +1

Officeworks' $250 Vodafone sim card gives you 200GB data instead of 150GB that you get from Woolworths so it's not worth the effort of price matching as they'll just say no as it's not exactly the same thing.

      • +4

Last time woolies offered this half price deal, officeworks matched the discount for the 200gb starter pack. Let's hope they do it this time

        • +2

          They've done it.

      • Worth trying to price beat, but will have to do it instore only as sold out/unavailable online.

Pretty sure they look the same, so might work.

  • +1

Can I keep existing Vodafone number and use this for next 12 months?

Any idea on 10% off applicable with this (once a month with Woolworths insurance)

    • +3

I don’t see why not, you get 10% off at the check out and I don’t see how these would be excluded

    • I just tried it at woolies with the 10% off, it doesn't work since its considered a gift card.

      • Really? 10% off worked for me on Wednesday.

        • hmm so weird…I was using one of those older self checkout machines

          • @uraha: Don't know if it makes a difference but mine was a newer self serve with the larger scanner.

            • @VehemenceThePhoenix: There have been scattered reports on OzBargain that the newer model self-serve checkouts don't trigger the various errors when trying to buy gift cards and/or/with discounts, etc.

  • Does this include 5G?

    • +3

Sure does. Voda website lists this under “Our pick for 5G” therefore it would suggests it’s using voda 5G network

    • Pretty sure only their $50/28 day exp 45GB + 15GB Bonus only has 5G.

      • +1

Their website says any current prepaid plan:

"To connect to Vodafone 5G, you’ll need to sign up to any of our current phone, prepaid or 5G Home Internet Plans."
        https://www.vodafone.com.au/support/network/5g

        • Thanks, will have a read when I have time. The devil is usually in the detail lol.

I stand corrected, looks like all new Vodafone plan and prepaid offers include 5G.

  • +2

Given my past experiences with Vodafone, even though this is a great deal on paper, I will say no thank you.

  • $120 for 130GB if you purchased the regular Kogan Mobile (unlimited national calls and texts) Small 365 day Flex plan. So extra 20GB for $5 more in comparison.

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-prepaid-voucher-co…

Any idea what the activation expiry date is?

    • The Kogan BOGOF deal is better though

      • What is that please? My mobile is not due for a recharge until late May. I recently bought the Kogan "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" Large Flex plans for family (300 GB each) for $270 ($135 each) but the recharge codes expired 31 December.

    • +1

Yeh but not 5G service like voda

      • +1

Had not even considered that but all our mobiles are still 4G.

        • +1

          Old school. Time to upgrade

          • +2

@Gavman: I don't upgrade mine until someone else wants/needs mine. I don't have an excuse to upgrade as yet; quite happy with SG10 still.

            • -2

@JediJan: Fair enuf. Battery would be woeful on those but if u don’t mind charging the phone 2x a day or don’t use the phone much still with it I guess

              • +1

@Gavman: I use it all day and pretty much not had a problem with charging. I guess I could have a new battery installed somewhere if there was an issue. I carry a usb back up charger if I use it a lot for photos when out. With the older mobiles I would just purchase spare batteries.

          • +1

@Gavman: I've turned 5G off on my phone and the battery last longer (5G modems are power-hungry), I really don't notice the difference for what I use my phone for between 4G and 5G.
            Each to their own.

            • @SimAus007: As well as many Australians living regional or rural get little to zero 5G anyway,

so no need to upgrade for that lol.

    • +1

Kogan has - Kogan Mobile Prepaid Voucher Code: MEDIUM (365 Days FLEX | 200GB) for $130 which is far better deal if you guys don't want 5G

      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-prepaid-voucher-co…

      • Apart from no 5G, also missing out on vowifi and volte as well as esim on Kogan though.

        • No eSim either

  • -1

    Does it include 5G?

    • If you read the applicable catalogue page it doesn't seem to specify any difference between 4 or 5G. Reading the finer points made mention if out of range of 5G would adapt to 4G etc., but unsure which deal that applied to. Best read the small print at base of that catalogue page to be sure.

    • +1

      Pretty sure it does yeah

  • How long would I need to be off Voda before I can use this starter pack? Currently with them but thinking when current 365 day prepaid expires I switch to cheap one month plan (eg: Kogan) and then activate this starter pack as a new customer. Thanks in advance.

    • Is this for new Vodafone customers?

      • +1

Yes, you need to connect a new number or port in. It's a "starter kit".

  • How long would I need to activate this sim card after purchasing? I still have my Catch Connect until March. Many Thanks.

    • +2

      1 year

Copying and pasting from a [comment i have made before] (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11505918/redir)

I am an employee of Vodafone

Hello everyone, I see the same questions every time there's a Vodafone prepaid deal, and see them repeated even in the same deal when they've already been answered. So I'm going to try make this a one stop comment with all the answers to everyone's favourite questions. These answers are in relation to Vodafone prepaid, postpaid may differ.

    Does it have 5g?
    Yes it does

    Does it have VOLTE?
    Yes it does

    Is there Wifi Calling?
    Yes there is

    Is there eSim?
    Yes

Can I use numbersync with my smart watch?
No, no prepaid plans are able to AFAIK

How long do I have to activate the starter pack?
    365 days from purchase

    How's the Vodafone network nowadays?
    Coverage checker

Can I port my number to this?
Yes, if your number is with another provider you can definitely port your number to Vodafone

I'm already with Vodafone, can I get this deal?
This is a tricky question for me to answer, so I'll just refer you to my previous answer to a similar question

Can I use this to hotspot?
Another tricky question to answer, another referral to a previous answer to this question

    • +3

This is nice, they should post this on the Vodafone FAQs

  • +1

Personally, I would prefer Telstra/Boost or Optus. Not worth the hassle of poor network. Things might have improved, but once bitten, twice shy.

    • +2

I've actually had positive experiences with both telstra/boost and Vodafone compared to optus. I guess it depends where you go in Australia though

  • Unlimited standard National calls

Does this mean landline and mobile phones?

    • +1

      Indeed.

      • Thanks. :)

  • I just bought one of these for $125, they have been at this price for the last week at Woolworths (South Yarra VIC)
There was a ticket on the shelf for the $125 price for the 150GB plan so I thought I'd grab it :)

    • Yeah I saw one in woolies close to my place but they have run out of stock. Which woolies in SY you are talking about. Did they have a lot of stock? thanks

      • Only 1 Woolworths store in South Yarra (670 Chapel).
        Plenty available 3 ago :)

  • Last deal had 50gb bonus data. Not sure if this one has bonus data as well? Thanks

  • Does Voda prepaid have visual voicemail?

  • +2

Officeworks has matched with 200GB already.

  • Curious, am already on voda prepaid - thinking of a new Apple Watch with the aim of using iPhone less - would it be worth getting this deal for a second prepaid number for this purpose?

    • +1

No, you can't currently use any pre-paid (PAYG) service on the 4G Apple Watch (postpaid only)

      • Thanks Mate, I’ve ordered a cellular version, I guess I’ll have to migrate to post paid when my prepaid expires to be more phone free in ‘22

  • bought one from my local wolies. Cant make it to Officeworks. The promotion tag is not available but when checkout it shows $125 plus $10 on Rewards for future usage.

    • do you get 150Gb or 200Gb? I accidentally bought one from WW yesterday when I went to Officeworks but they closed early. Thanks

  • Thanks OP! Good deal for long expiry. Works out to be $10.42~ a month
