FWIW - I purchased this for my wife for Xmas as she has had a DLSR for a number of years but has never been truly happy with the photos that she has taken. On our camping trip last week my wife was going crazy trying all of the techniques that are explained on the DVD and I am just reviewing the photos now. Some big improvements already just doing the basics.

      Why I like the DVD:
      * it covers most topics needed by us amateurs (ordinary folk) and provides some detail without getting caught up in all of the technical jargon
      * it is Australian and does not get caught up in being too serious and boring
      * whilst the camera that is used is a Canon the rules and guides are applicable to most brands of DSLR
      * it is a very nice introduction for those people who might wish to go on to formal, advanced face-to-face photography courses i.e. TAFE or private courses because it allows you to have the basics under your belt and not feel like a total newbie
      * product delivered on time, as promised and packaging, etc of good quality
      * it has an easy to use index so that you can skip to parts that you want to review and practice

There are more reasons but I suspect that you get the idea. I like it and recommend it. I have already passed on the details of the product to friends and family and have strongly recommended that they buy it.

Thanks a lot for the great feedback and I'm very happy its helped your wife's photography, I really appreciate and it makes all my time and effort worthwhile..

    • +1

@poohah- I have canon 500d , do you reccon this DVD would be helpful on how to use my DSLR?

      • +1

For sure, its exactly the same principles on all SLR Cameras, Canon Nikon, Sony ect, and also on the Hybrids like a Canon G10

        • +2

          Thanks , ordered …

  • +1

Just ordered last night through the website, can't wait to recieve them. Thanks for the Deal :)

      on its way, cheers

  • +1

Price looks good, product seems pretty good, good deal even if it is only 25% off, much cheaper than elsewhere.

I must say, interesting name for a rep though!

    • +6

There's not much in it to take off and if I drop it any lower the kids will have to move back to eating baked beans, they only just moved onto spaghetti… Poohah, its actually a very funny thing in a certain language cheers and enjoy the course

      • +3

Wasn't meaning that in a negative way mate, glad the kids are being fed, although bb and spag both cost the same and are half price at Coles!

        • +1

Hehehehe, I'm going there straight after the post office,Got to love Oz bargain for deals, the best one I've had here is the Woolworth mobile telephone deal, a year calling for $100 but I'm digressing…

  • +1

    Your eBay link is buggered.

  • +1

where does this ship from? syd?

    • +1

The Sunny Central Coast but it's basicly part of Sydney now.. so yes, you could say Sydney, most ordered placed in Sydney will receive it the next day

      • +1

yes just wanted to know that. when is the cutoff time for shipping today? hopefully its not passed as yet

        • +1

No its fine, I can get them processed if its in by 4pm, cheers..

  • +1

    Ordered!
Never really used my DSLR properly… Have been using the auto/P mode mostly..
Ended up shooting really dark pics on a bright day recently - Which tells me i need to know how to use my camera!''

    Thanks OP

    • +2

You'll improve by at least 100%, I guarantee that, you are not alone, 99% of people buy these great cameras and leave them on auto which is such a shame, my number one aim is to get the user off the auto settings and to user the camera properly onto the manual settings..enjoy, cheers

      • +1

        Thanks!

BTW, i cant vote +ive - could be my browser!

        • +1

remember to do it the next time you can. Reps like these need encouragement to bring more deals to the table(geddit?)

        • +2

Done - did it via IE

  • +1

So how do we order? Website looks down from here and the eBay price is still $19.99

    • +1

I just checked and there were no problems but if you would like to shoot an email through to [email protected] I will send you a payment request via paypal, cheers, oh and in answer to your question, usually through the website.

  • +1

Awesome, have been looking for a DSLR course recently, so this has come at a great time. Cant wait to receive it.

PS: there is a small typo on your website and im not going to tell you where…. jk half way down the page: "Is there any Guarentee with the Photography Courses?" :)

    • +2

you are right but sometimes seo overtakes spelling hehehe..cheers for the heads up..

  • +1

Just ordered. Looking forward to getting more out of my camera.

    • +1

      On its way, cheers..

  • +1

I missed this last time, not this time. Order in. Thanks

    • +1

Nice one, on its way, enjoy..

  • +1

    Just ordered,

Hopefully this is good for beginners, just bought a 550D for my wife and have been looking for somewhere to start :)

    • +1

Great camera, some of the footage on the video was shot with a 550d, I always recommend this camera, I can't believe they put so much into a camera for such a good price

  • +1

Does it cover any creative aspects or just the technical/how to configure the camera?

    • +1

I explain how to set the camera up and then show how to use it in a practical situation..

  • +1

Just picked one up for my sister, thanks for that!

    • +1

      on its way,cheers

  • +1

Yeah.. Ok bought it :) Thanks.

    • +1

      Nice one, on its way

  • +1

Ordered one. Thanks for the deal.

Hopefully it will be useful :)
Like many others, I've had my SLR camera for a year, and always have it on Auto mode most of the time.

    • +1

I hope it will bring on a new lease of life for your camera , cheers

    • +2

Oh no, I don't want anybody having issues, lets leave that to the people on American talk shows..

I just went on the site and it seems fine http://www.digitalphotographycourse.com.au

Any more dramas getting on the site then simply shoot me through an email to [email protected] and I'll send a payment request through to you, sorry about that, cheers

  • +1

Bought this last time. Great DVD.

    • +1

Thanks for the good feedback twisted and I'm glad you enjoyed it..

  • +1

Got me a canon 60D off Santa so this should help get me out of the auto modes.

    • +5

Excellent, a couple of recommendations for you, if you are skint(short of money) grab the amazing deal on the nifty 50, the Canon 50mm 1.8, its feels like it will break at any moment but its sharper than most lenses over 1000 dollars and you can pick it up for under $100..a bargain..

If you are a bit more flush then splash out on the Sigma 50mm 1.4, the difference this has over the 1.8 is amazing, one extra stop means you can shoot in half the light, I would also suggest the 30mm 1.4 from Sigma as well, the 60d is a small frame camera and has a magnification of 1.6 so the 50mm lens you put on it actually come out at 80mm, the problem is that you always have to step backwards to shoot group photos due to the magnification, the 30mm Sigma x 1.6 give you roughly 50mm which is your normal eyes perception.. enjoy the course, cheers

      • +1

Thanks, I purchased a nifty fifty on advise from my sister. Apparently she liked her own advise so much she brought me one for Xmas so now I have 2.
Will probably flog one off on eBay.

        • +3

Sell them both and get the Sigma 1.4, you won't regret it..its a world of difference

      • +2

please correct me if i am wrong but
        1.4 / 1.8 ^ 2 = 0.60.
so it is not half light.
for half light you have stop it down to f2.0.
        sorry for being too pedantic.

  • +1

Bought one. Too many +ve votes on OzBargain for this to slip past me.

Hopefully it'll live up to its expectations. Cheers.

    • +2

On its way, thanks for the support and I guarantee it will or your money back, cheers..

  • +1

Too many good reviews - will give it a whirl. No rush - off on holiday for a week first!

  • +1

Love how you explain things. Been into photography for five years and learned mostly from my mistakes. Wish I saw this DVD earlier!

    • Best (and most frustrating) way to learn.

    • +1

      thanks for the good feedback

  • +1

Just bought one as it seems so popular. Hopefully it will arrive over in WA within a few days. :)

    • +1

its up to Aus post now…

  • +2

Thanks - bought it and don't even own a SLR. Any suggestions?

    • +1

      www.dpreview.com

I personally like Nikon as I am familiar with them.

Best you read reviews and get one based on price/features.

      Good luck.

      • +1

        I have a Pentax DSLR.
        Good camera. Cannot complain.
But imho Cannon D550 is pretty good with the current price drop.

    • +1

      budget?

snapsort is a pretty good site as well to compare them side by side.

I would suggest the nikon D5100 if you have the budget. I think Nikon lenses are generally cheaper than canon ones, found out the hard way(specially used lenses)

      • +1

Thanks guys. Probably looking at Canon since I've used Canon point and shoot ones before.

Budget is only around $400 - $500 so will probably grab a 1100D and go from there.

    • +1

I believe you've been affected by ozbargain fever

  • +1

I was really tempted to get this last time it was posted, but I held off at the time. Now I think i'll definitely give it a shot!

  • +1

    • +1

http://www.digitalphotographycourse.com.au/, just checking you have the same link, is it ok?

      • +1

Took me two attempts to get into the website.

First time it said unavailable host. But clicking the link again worked fine.

Not sure what the problem was though. Definitely not my end since im on a high speed lan.

        • +2

You're not the first person who has said that today, it's time I went to the Internet section of Ozbargains and get a new host..

      • +1

        it's still down

        • +1

Cheers for that, strange thing is its up for me, and not from the cache, did you manage to buy a course, I can send you a payment request if you like, thanks for the heads up..

Bought one too. Just in time for the missus' overseas trip. I was meant to teach her the basics before she left.. Hoping this will cover for me..;-) (and I'm sure will do a better job!!).
Also, the sample video had the 7D. So I assume the DVD also features the same, which is a bonus cos she's gonna be using the same DSLR. Cheers.

Just ordered a copy as well. I've been wanting to do a photography course to learn how to use my camera but have been too busy, so now I can learn how to take photos by watching this DVD, can't wait to get it.

    Thanks poohah.

    Hi,

I'm not a beginner, but also somewhere a borderline intermediate photographer. Any sample youtube streams, so as I can judge the level of expertise being taught through these vids?

    Thanks.
